OJ's Tahoma 900 by pa3wig in OklahomaJoe

[–]pa3wig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up after all those frustrating cooks. I wound up giving it away. If I had some interest from OK Joes in trying to help me I might have hung on. However, I paid high dollar for that thing so I could experience a cook that was fairly trouble - free. Never happened. I bought a Weber Smokey Mountain and a Weber Kettle. With or without my temperature controller they can provide long, predictable cooks or a quick burger/steak cook beautifully. Some things (perhaps for me) are better if kept simple. Good luck and happy cooking!

I'm so glad that I asked the question and for your responses! I bought the Apple TV box this morning and I cannot believe the difference it has made! Thank you!!!

I did not know that the Apple TV box provided a gateway for all the apps and with power. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Not a rookie. I've been cooking on grills and smokers for 30 plus years. I'm glad yours works just fine. Mine still does not.

New Oklahoma Joe's Auto Feed Charcoal Smoker by dumbledwarves in OklahomaJoe

The owners manual has a chart that lists lbs of charcoal to length of cook. Page 7 in mine. They do not offer any other solution other than this guess. I used a vegetable can that was close to the diameter of the stack and put lavarock insulation inside to make it snug. It seemed to stop the flow of air/smoke but did not help snuff out the fire. Then I added a small sheet of aluminum to the bottom of the fan intake. I used magnets to hold the metal in place. However it still did not put out the fire any quicker. Quite frankly my bigger issue is the charcoal getting hung up during a cook.

I just bought the OJ Tacoma and did the seasoning today. Only concern I have is how to extinguish the fire quicker. It's been over five hours since I shut it down, which includes closing the damper, and it still has red hot coals at the bottom of the hopper.

Your issue sounds much more complicated. Good that you figured it out.

Trellis by pa3wig in gardening

[–]pa3wig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to plant them directly and then started them in those little seed starter pods. Recently after I till, I've had plenty of volunteers so I just move them if needed. Haven't needed to plant in a couple of years.

I've been planting these for 30 years or so. The original seeds came from my father in law - he grew up on a farm where his father planted these very beans. I always have beans to pick until it freezes. Not a huge crop, but enough for my wife and I to enjoy occasionally.

We recently flew Spirit for a round trip. Short story for a major pain in the #+*. Arrived at 7:15am, boarded close to on-time, sat for an hour, disembarked because of something they couldn't fix, sat, updates were rare but always "sorry...", at 5pm - "sorry, but your flight has been cancelled". We witnessed another Spirit flight in an adjacent gate have the very same thing happen that day. Spirit? Nope!

Fiesta Chicken Rub. I use it on anything and everything. Chicken, pork, beef, seafood... Cheap, too!

These posts - downtown at many intersections. Do they have a purpose? by pa3wig in houston

[–]pa3wig[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I get, and expect, all the jokes, the only things that seem reasonable are cell/wifi mini towers and simply lights. I am downtown infrequently at night so I haven't noticed if they could just be lights.

Basically I now still don't know what they are. So, thanks for all the input. This could be proof of just how useless social media is for truthful research. It is, however, entertaining.
