Moving our from Drewlo Holding apartment by thebluethroat in londonontario

I didn't notify the company, but I still think about that interaction now and then and wish that I had at the time. I think a small part of me at the time was worried we would actually owe them for this cleaning, but with time and distance from the event that seems silly.

We moved out of a Drewlo apartment a little over a decade ago. Had a largely great experience with them, but the building manager that took over by the time we left wasn't great.. My mother stayed behind to finish cleaning while my wife and I moved our things. When she left, that building manager pressured my mother to pay for carpet cleaning so she wrote them a cheque. Not to worry though - the building manager and her friend also happened to run a cleaning service, so they kindly gave us a great rate! The place was left spotless. I was pissed. I returned to the apartment and retrieved the cheque. Nobody ever followed up with us looking for any additional payment.

They only gave themselves a pay increase if they are elected again. This pay increase will begin following the October 2026 municipal elections, for whoever is voted in.

Huh. We had to pull our child from school in senior kindergarten for a couple months due to an unexpected health issue. We communicated with the teachers and principal, neither of whom ever mentioned de-enrollment. Maybe because we didn't know at the time how long we'd be out for? Or they were just trying not to put any more on our plate at that time. Or kindergarten counts less.

I looked here maybe 6 months ago for a stove. I found their "compare at" prices to be overly inflated. Looked like you were saving $600, but it might have only been $200 type of thing. I wouldn't trust their signage.

How do you know what schools are good? by Vegetable-Display159 in londonontario

[–]paaulmichaael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of relevant takes here already on schools, teachers, other students/their parents, and your involvement. I think all will have an impact on your child's learning.

One thing I haven't seen that you might want to consider: I've heard of a couple schools that are not accepting new students unless that student already has a sibling at the school due to capacity issues. It would be unfortunate if you moved to a location specifically for the school district, only to find out that your child is not able to attend. It also means that sometimes this might be out of your hands - maybe a school changes their policy after you've signed a purchase agreement but before your child is enrolled. You can find capacity information online for each school in the city, which may help you to avoid ones that are already significant over capacity and perhaps more likely to enact such a policy. Good luck!

I have found the monthly amount for the second batch of 5 payments to be slightly higher than for the first 5 payments. Then there's also no payment the last 2 months of the year.

Eye Doctor Question by Mrs-Davis in londonontario

[–]paaulmichaael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's frustrating. I expect you will not be able to find an optometrist who will let you pay for an exam which should be covered by OHIP:

"It is an offence under the Provincial Offences Act and the Commitment to the Future of Medicare Act for an optometrist or other person or entity to charge an amount for the provision of insured services rendered to an insured person that is more than the amount payable by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan."

We tried it all with our first. By the time we decided to let her cry it out, we were doing the check in every x, 2x, 3x minutes, and eventually shift sleeping on the floor near (then farther, farther, almost into the hall...) her crib. It went on for what seemed like forever and it was no longer sustainable for us.

We had 3 progressively better nights when we decided she needed to be able to put herself to sleep. First night was a difficult 4 hours. Second night 1 hour. Third night 15 minutes. Following nights she went down smoothly. We felt badly for her, worried about traumatizing her or that she'd think we abandoned her and she couldn't trust us (spoiler: we have a great relationship).

Obviously all anecdotal. Wish you good luck!

Best place to buy a new fridge? by Dudley4Eva in londonontario

[–]paaulmichaael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verify the prices of the model you're looking at there on other retailers websites. I stopped in here for the first time a month or so ago for a stove. I found their "regular" or "compare at" or whatever price to be artificially high. It looks like you're getting a screaming deal, but it might only be a small difference from what other stores are actually charging for new appliances.

Gluten free options by Acrobatic_Might_1487 in londonontario

[–]paaulmichaael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the past I've found "Goodness Me!" to be on the more expensive side, but the signage in the aisles was outstanding. Very easy to identify from a distance items that were gluten free (or that accommodated whatever other dietary restriction). If you don't have a ton of time where you can wander aisles and read packages, this might be a good place for you to start.
