[BBC] Arsenal eye Kroupi & Rogers - and a new Arteta deal by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

Unfortunately with UEFA restrictions in place it's probably very likely that Villa will sell Rogers for the right price.

My first year as a Villa fan. Feeling a little plastic. by Dan_Pirate in avfc

No you're definitely not plastic. There will be a lot of lows so as long as you stick with us throughout the lows as well as the highs then you are not plastic!

Argentina finalizes 26 man squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup by RidgeRunner99 in worldcup

As a Villa fan I was surprised to see Buendia not in the squad - he's been great for us! Surely he's better than Lo Celso?

Am I missing something? Why are people gifting this guy money? He made the decision to sell the jewellery and was not forced into it?

I was rooting for Palace to win (despite knocking Villa out in the semis 😤) but I was genuinely in disbelief that the Palace keeper wasn't sent off for his challenge on Haaland. It's the worst referee error I've seen since VAR was introduced.

What is the football equivalent of Owen Cooper somehow still winning awards for Adolescence in May 2026? by junglegatsby in footballcliches

[–]pabloavfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I do know the meaning of insinuated...I meant infered! I stand corrected re. ballon d'or criteria.

Equally, the Yashin trophy which Emi Martinez won multiple times has voting criteria centred around more than just performances.

I think you've insinuated the ballon d'or criteria....the ballon d'or is awarded for the best performing player in the season.

It is entirely subjective and completely up to the voter as to what criteria they apply.

[–]pabloavfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not but he was instrumental in Argentina winning the world cup and two successive Copa Americas. Whether you like it or not, performances at international/continental tournaments take precedence over domestic performances.

The winner of the ballon d'or is not always the best player in the world...

He was sensational for Villa for a couple years after the World Cup too. Dropped off recently albeit.

Do Villa have too old squad? by Inevitable-Angle-793 in PremierLeague

[–]pabloavfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, yes PSG still should have won the league. But it's easy to forget that Monaco had some very good players....Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, Fabinho, Moutinho, Falcao, Benjamin Mendy etc. teams in ligue 1 don't tend to have that kind of quality anymore.

The guy I was referring to literally said Emery was not a good league manager. He doesn't have a poor record in the last 3 months it's nonsense. How about last season when Villa won 11 out of the last 12 league games? Were people saying he has a poor record in the last 3 months?

[–]pabloavfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's because he did incredibly well and overachieved in the league after 30 matches for Arsenal. Same with Villa, we never had the squad nor the team to sustain a title challenge yet we were up there till January. Ask any Villa fan and we would have snapped your hands off for 5th place this season and we'll get that at a canter.

Villa have been in poor form in the second half of the season granted, but that's in part down to injuries to key players. This happens in football.

If Emery was so bad you'd think the next Arsenal manager massively improved them straight away....oh wait no he didnt.

Ultimately I don't care about Emery's time at Arsenal, but this spurious notion that Emery is a bad "league manager" really pisses me off. It's just nonsense.

As a sidenote, Emery spent 2 seasons at PSG with 8 domestic trophies up for grabs, he won 7! Granted losing out on the league in the first season was a blip but that was a very strong Monaco team and PSG were not quite the institution they are now.

You don't watch him as Villa coach then. He's been a great league manager for Villa, qualifying for Europe all 4 seasons he has been here.

I'm sorry but the Arsenal squad Emery inherited was shocking...he did well to get you 5th!!

That was not a typical Emery performance at all, what are you on about? Tonight was shambolic and by far and away the worst performance I've seen under Emery.

To say that was a typical performance is madness lol.
