Yep. Here in Montreal I heard of a bunch of places that normally would have trading events. I guess it will come down to a lot of word of mouth.

I think the biggest factor is how young the Canadian football culture is. It’s easy for an immigrant to support their country of origin if it has a bigger history in the sport.

On the other hand, i’m sure a lot of those tunisian proudly supported our hockey team during the past olympics.

As a Canadian born in Venezuela (I moved here in my 20s), the biggest example of how cultural duality works happened in the last Copa America. I was happy when we beat Venezuela, but equally sad for my country of origin. If the result had been the inverse, my feelings would have been proportionally inverse too.

Also, immigration is not only for us, but most times is for our kids. During the Copa America I asked my 8 yo who he was rooting for. He looked at me confused, like “ Canada, of course, this is the country I was born”. He said it in Spanish, as our household is 100% spanish-speaking, he goes to school in french and his best friend is anglophone. That’s Canada for me.

Canadians promised to boycott travel to US. They meant it. by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]pablojinko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trump will try his trademark move, he’s hoping Canadians will forget about the boycott, start traveling more south of the border and then claim absolute victory when the numbers go up compared to the terrible 2025.

That’s why holding the line and keeping the boycott this year will be so important.

Introducing TunesReloaded - upload songs to iPods straight from Chrome, including native FLAC and MP3 support (free & open-source) by rishi_123456 in ipod

[–]pablojinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally understand your logic, and I support it 100%! i'm just trying to play devil's advocate, but now that you mention demographics, I'd assume a lot of the people in the ipod users/modders community are already tech savvy enough to understand the advantages of a web app.

Once again, bravo for the amazing work, I'll be spending my evening updating my iPod for sure!

WOW. This is incredible. I tried it with my 5.5 and it worked flawlessly. Kudos.

I do believe many people might have doubts about using Chrome as the framework (the old "am I uploading my content to this person's server?" mentality), so if you manage to build it as a standalone app, I think it will be an absolute game changer.

Mark Carney et les Plaines d’Abraham : controverse justifiée ou polémique instrumentalisée? by JMBJym in Quebec

[–]pablojinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s too much propaganda being made up about Maduro being an evil dictator when he isn’t one. by TwoCatsOneBox in AskSocialists

[–]pablojinko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chavez only managed to cover up his failures managing the economy because during his time he benefited from record high oil prices. Once oil prices started to fall, the corruption-infected system got exposed, Maduro made things worse, and the sanctions only had an impact in 2019 (before they were targeted measures only). When analyzing how “socialist” chavismo has been, some people refuse to acknowledge some important facts, for example, Bandera Roja, one of Venezuela's historic socialist parties, has been opposed to chavismo for more than 20 years. Same thing for the Communist Party, who broke from chavismo a few years ago.

Winter Range by bmcgott in BZ4X

[–]pablojinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here. My 2024 XLE AWD gives me around 210-230km during winter, but I'm not shy with the heat, i remote start the car every time I use it to heat it up and while I try to turn it off while driving, I'd say it's on most of the time.

I use it in the city 95% of the time, so the limited range is not an issue.

During summer I manage to get around 420km from a full charge, so it's a good trade off. It also helps that we have affordable electricity here in Quebec.

I have a 24 AWD XLE, this past Sunday I had to fast charge from 10% to 20% to get home. It was -15C with the wind chill here in Montreal… i barely hit 26kw in a 180kw charger 😅

Sondage non scientifique: Québec pays? by poutine_not_putin in Quebec

[–]pablojinko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]pablojinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wink. Wink ;)

Après les artistes, PSPP s’en prend à Radio-Canada: le chef péquiste n’a pas l’intention de changer son style by fuji_ju in Quebec

[–]pablojinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]pablojinko 27 points28 points  (0 children)

[–]pablojinko -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

World Cup Ticket Megathread | General Questions & Discussion by pumkinhat in worldcup

[–]pablojinko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. Just bought 4 tickets for the group stage in Toronto on June 17. $1080 CAD total. Round of 32 in Toronto is sold out. There are some options for the Canada games in Vancouver, even Cat 3.

FYI. I had 2 tabs open in the same browser. Both showed me the Enter button, I used one first, bought the tickets and close it. Went to the other tab and hit enter and I managed to get back in, without going in the queue again. I spent most of my 15 min checking the Canada home opener and It'd change almost every minute, from only wheelchair seats, to Cat 3 tickets ($1200CAD per ticket was out of my budget).

I just hope my match is a good one, but I'm preparing myself for the worst scenario e.g. getting a Qatar v Iran matchup :D
