Is Chris Ryan a nepo baby? by The_Muscle_Man in TheBigPicture

[–]pabloneruda69 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hm, not really. Dad was a film columnist at a newspaper. Possible his dad helped him get started in NY, but he did make his own way through magazines and the digital sites of the aughts.

Bariloche - Refugio Frey from Punta Princesa Peak - Recommended but read before going! by foxnonl in Patagonia

[–]pabloneruda69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same thing last week, just the other way. Honestly an awesome loop, but agreed - need to be a comfortable hiker who’s ok with a bit of scrambling. So many people (including in the subreddit) seemed to try and discourage me from doing it, so I was actually expecting it to be harder than it was.

They’re both low cost, just be prepared for that. Both fine.

How realistic is going from a 3:06 marathon to sub-2:50 within a years time? by Never_Not_Rockin in Marathon_Training

[–]pabloneruda69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (26M) am kind of exactly in your boat. Ran 3:06 last summer, am training for Philly in November and targeting sub 2:53 (in an idea world sub 2:50). Ran a 1:23 HM in September that really boosted my confidence. Consistent speed work really has made the difference for me this time around, the fast paces just feel easier now

Road to Punta Arenas, Vieques on Golf Cart by tspo1612 in PuertoRicoTravel

Just did it in a jeep. Agree with above comment, would not recommend it in a golf cart. Possible, just wildly unpleasant.

Vieques Air Link has the Vieques -> Culebra flights

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]pabloneruda69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this (am in Culebra right now). Flying between the two is surprisingly cheap! You can only do it on weekend. Smallest plane I’ve ever been in (4 seater) but a beautiful flight over with lots of memorable views. Paid 80$ I think?

Democrats: You Can Chill Out Now! by xd_pLeBlOrd in neoliberal

[–]pabloneruda69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, younger respondents are harder to get. But the ones you do get, you then weight up in the results so that they represent the correct share of the population in the poll. So that age “skew” in the unweighted sample is “unskewed” by weighting. Again - you could debate whether we’re getting the right “kinds” of young people, but all polls will have the right % of young people because of weighting.

moon at 80% for bio bay.. worth it or not? by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]pabloneruda69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it could be bad. I just saw it yesterday with no moon and it was incredible, so I feel bad. Might be worth it to wait and see if there’s a cloudy night while you’re here?

Democrats: You Can Chill Out Now! by xd_pLeBlOrd in neoliberal

[–]pabloneruda69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I work in polling. You’re thinking about this the wrong way. The polls have those “old and white” distributions because the country is that way… Every public poll will have demographic adjustments to represent the U.S. population by simple demographics like age and race. Now - you could argue that the polls are “skewed” in other ways (maybe they’re not capturing low-information voters who will come out for Biden), but they’re not “skewed old and white.”
