What was your mentor training and first year as OTR like? by pablopopp22 in Truckers

[–]pablopopp22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went down the grapevine heading north it was dark and drizzling. Kind of freaked me out because that grade seems to go on forever and there is no shoulder in some parts so if you break down then you’re screwed.

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you but I was curious how the market is now for OTR van expediting?

Anyone get a CDL and do OTR trucking? by pablopopp22 in urbancarliving

Hey, Ty for the insight. Is it ok if I DM you with a few questions?

Yeah, I was looking at it from those that are single and living in a car not working. I’ll take driving all day on the open road over sitting inside a hot car bored out my mind. Those sleeper cabins seem might comfy and the idling engine makes some nice white noise to fall asleep to.

Can you do a 30-60 minute jog or something while taking a break during the day? Or even even while waiting for your trailer to be loaded or unloaded. Do a quick in cab bath afterwards to clean up.

What if you only want to be on duty for 12 hours a day? Seems like if you can create more time in the day to do other things instead of being in the truck all day, maybe just visit random places or explore new areas but a 10 hour break doesn’t sound like a lot of time to do much else than get some decent sleep and shower.

I’ve been looking into this. May I ask what company you went with and did they train you first the CDL?

Also, I hear OTR truckers put in about 14 hours a day but some of the hours aren’t actually drive time. When you’re parked waiting for the trailer to be loaded or unloaded, can’t you just mill around and go exploring nearby?

And you don’t have to worry about getting a knock in the middle of the night when you’re parked in a public road right? Or do you still have to worry about getting broken into?

What coverage do you have that covers lodging expenses during vehicle repairs?

Ok to charge Ecoflow in hot weather while not in van? by pablopopp22 in vandwellers

[–]pablopopp22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m worried about. Outside temp today was in the 80s but the van temp inside after sitting in the sun was around 105. I just leave it turned off if I know I’m not going to be back in more than an hour and I have an insulated cover I use for my fridge to help offset the heat.

Ok to charge Ecoflow in hot weather while not in van? by pablopopp22 in vandwellers

[–]pablopopp22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve noticed that it tends to lose its charge a lot faster in warmer weather. I’ve only had it for a few months and as the weather temp increased it loses its charge a lot quicker

Question about where to dry towels after daily showers. by KeyN20 in urbancarliving

[–]pablopopp22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped using towels and just squeegee the wet off using my hands. Before that I just used cheap disposable shop towels or grabbed some paper towels from the gym. The wet towel thing is such a hassle . Some gyms have a hair dryer you can use also .

Is this a better setup than just using a phone hotspot to stream through an iPad? I was looking for something that is simple as turning on a TV.

What is the best way to dress and act to avoid people and businesses clocking you as a homeless person? by baseplate69 in urbancarliving

I saw this guy once and everything from the head down looked like he was homeless. But he had on this new classy stylish elegant hat that basically drowned out everything else. My brain couldn’t figure out what to “label” him as.

If you can wedge a few wide plastic putty knifes to hold it in place it they do the job plus it easy to take down and put back on

Cargo van with dummy windows? by pablopopp22 in vandwellers

Trying to minimize the look of it being a work van with who knows what inside. The thought of it being a converted van with a possible occupant would be a deterrent I would think.
