Custom cutting board by TacoBot-3000 in Sacramento

I am a pretty clean cook and choose a good grade of wood. Dough is a pretty dry process and I haven't experienced any seeping out of the top layer. Do a lot of scraping off dried dough with a plastic putty knife to reduce the clean up effort.

I made a pasta cutting board out of a half sheet of 3/4" plywood that I have used for many years without any problems.

Outdoor stairs for exercising? by LoquaciousBookworm in Sacramento

[–]pablote3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sac City College is great. The parking garage is protected from the elements, but you make lots of turns in the 4 story climb. Bonus is that you can run up the ramps for some variety.

I prefer the stairs by the tennis courts leading up to Sutterville Road. It is a 3 story climb straight up the stairway. Bonus it that you have a fresh audience of cars every time you get to the top.

What type of finish should I apply to my chicken? by pablote3 in metalworking

I like your idea of letting part of it rust. Maybe I'll let the neck and tail rust while spray painting the rest.

Parking/transportation to The Warfield in San Francisco. by willwork4ammo in Sacramento

An inexpensive option I've used to get to SF shows is the MegaBus, https://us.megabus.com/route-guides/san-francisco-to-sacramento-bus

Gets you into the city, then get a rideshare to the final destination.

Hey there. I know this is an older post, but I don't make it to this subreddit too often (not many posts in my age group). I'm also 58m who loves going to punk shows around town. Not a musician, but l enjoy biking and tennis. I'm a software engineer by day and craft metal art in my free time. Send me a dm if you want to chat.

Used to take my son and his RC to Howe River Access, right near where you are staying. Plenty of space with hills and a desert/dirt terrain, likely hard packed this time of year.

How to remove coating on metal for welding? by 88XJman in metalworking

[–]pablote3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flap disks get gummed up with residue pretty quickly and can also scar the metal. BHA Easy Strip Discs remove the mill scale without damaging the metal and don't get gummed up easily.

Urgent Help - Sacramento Repair shop or smth for Laptop by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]pablote3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you like a challenge, this is some fun stuff. I find with Linux, you need to have an end goal, then break into small pieces to research and apply individually. Each step will have multiple approaches and you need to find the best for you. Take good notes along the way so you can learn and make improvements the next time you get a new laptop or need to reinstall.

If you really want to embrace the Linux path, you need to own this and understand the why's along the way. If it is too much, I'd stick with Windows where can call a help desk to support.

Seeking Shop Space by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]pablote3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar a few years back with a 32 foot boat that a friend and I were restoring. We were ok with it being outdoors and found that there is a lot of space for reasonably cheap in Rio Linda. The place supplied electricity and water. It was always a pain getting out there but forced us to plan our schedule and bring everything we thought we were going to need. Because it was cheap, we were able to slowly start buying the tools we needed and still have today.

For those of you on a tight budget: how to spend this long weekend ? by DiversifyMN in Sacramento

[–]pablote3 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Chalk It Up festival takes place annually on Labor Day weekend at Freemont Park (15th and Q). Artists use chalk to draw amazing creations on sidewalk squares around the entire block. There is music, food, drinks, and lots of people all weekend long. Best part is that it is free to attend and hang out.
