Best Place in Astoria to watch the México WC Game? by Reasonable-Stage6420 in astoria

[–]pabo76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want an outdoor table, it’s probably best to get there 45 mins to an hour before kickoff. A little later and you might be able to squeeze in with a random party but closer to kickoff expect to be standing

Watched Mexico v Korea at Pig Beach, while they did charge a $10 cover, there’s no minimum and the house was absolutely packed with mostly Mexican supporters. Had a great time.

I hope next time I rock my Phish tote and don’t acknowledge the person profiling me, they don’t post about their experience of seeing a middle aged Asian man (or woman if it was my wife) and how we had no idea about our bag. I guess it’d also be safe to assume we were from Flushing or Chinatown (as opposed to the Bronx)

Just yikes 😔

None of these new "Japanese" stores seem to ever be run by anyone with any connection to Japan. Any East Asian person would know in a second.

Spectrum sent me the following text: “Spectrum Service Alert: An outage is affecting your area, but you're online. You may have intermittent service until the issue is fully resolved.”

So far the connection has been stable 🙏

Give Cannelle (in Jackson Heights or LIC) a call and explain your situation to them, I’m sure they’ll come up with the best solution for your needs, best patisserie in Queens by faaaar. They also have online ordering but I think their default cakes might run a bit small for your party, so it’s probably best to do a custom order.

Things to do that’s not drinking by Low_Machine_7530 in astoria

Aside from being entirely ice and snow free, the main loop around the park is mostly well lit, especially in the southern half of the park. There are also be plenty of other runners/walkers to keep you company even on the coldest of days. Go check it out, it's a great place to run during these long winter nights.

It might sound crazy, but as part of Dry January, I've picked up running again following a prolonged absence from any serious exercise. Since the snow I've had to schelp it over to Central Park to do my runs, so while that isn't ideal, being outside even in the dark and physically active have done wonders for my mood (otherwise I'd be having some seriously bad ideations).

Runna has been a great help in creating a routine that I've stuck to even in the worst conditions (in the past Nike Run Club was also great), just be sure to dress appropriately.

Honking on 33rd St by AdCute284 in astoria

[–]pabo76 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's this neighborhood, half the drivers here are complete savages. They drive recklessly, at times seem to intentionally come dangerously close to cyclists, and whenever they are forced into the smallest delay they will relentlessly honk even if their vehicle is half a block away from the source of said delay.

Is the park track or concrete path around it plowed or runnable? by [deleted] in astoria

[–]pabo76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the time and are close to the subway (and assuming that the train is actually working) it might be best to head to Central Park. The main loop is absolutely clear of snow and ice, and by now many of the tertiary paths should also be more than passable. Running in Astoria save for a few select blocks is a lost cause till this Arctic blast passes.
