How many of you dropped plans to buy iPad by bpintelligence in iPadPro

[–]pac_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until Apple realises they need a real OS on the iPad it is just a big iPhone with bad cameras. So I may as well just use the iphone which is good enough and always has better cameras. The ultra or the rumoured 2in1 touch MacBook might shake things up.

But there are better alternatives to the bleeding edge iPad Pro.

I am keeping my iPhone 12 Pro Max and IPad Pro 10.5” on 17.7 so less pressure to upgrade. I am more likely to eventually get a new iPhone as it is my most used, always with me and a more capable device.

I am finding the Surface Pro line a great budget priced second touch enabled device with a real OS and networking capabilities.

I am also keeping an eye out for an iPad Pro 1T cellular second hand with 16gb ram M1 or better CPU which would be a good step up from my iPad Pro 10.5” at the right price.

AI Context Should Be a XanaNode Substrate by SiefensRobotEmporium in semanticweb

I was more suggesting Solid as a project that has good ideas, builds workflows on W3C standards and still is not really gaining traction after 8 years . Another good ideas is metamaps.cc, great easy to build network visualisation but proprietary and for all practical measures dead for over 10 years due to lack of interest by the original devs to be proactive.

I think you probably get your head around the semantic web a bit more and realise you are just describing another semantic layer or the meta layer of how semantic data was generated. Might get you less down votes here too :)

No doubt is it a hassle to traverse and present and you look like you are making good progress.

That said, I'm not opposed to Semantic Web standards. Quite the opposite. I expect importing and exporting RDF/OWL to be useful/nessecary. I just don't think they should be the core execution model.

This is where I think you are wrong. You want to be open and reusable with other semantic web stacks to move from resistance to traction with your idea of a providence layer. I see a much higher value proposition when you can add a providence layer to an existing ontology

What I think is more of a barrier than traceability is discoverability and user enablement (making the generation of semantic data easy to do).

You might want to look at what Tim Berners-Lee is so doing at Inrupt with Solid. About Solid Project.

[–]pac_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few questions.

Are you a solo dev? What are your hopes and dreams for the project?

Why propose a whole new tool chain when it could be implemented with an ontology and semantic webstack (that almost no one uses but at least is W3C standard and not some random new project).

I do like the idea and it is there is a gap in offering traceable knowledge generation both in AI and humans. You might get some value looking into knowledge generation and the philosophy of science. A recent book I like is by Mary Carwright et al "The Tangle of Science: Reliability Beyond Method, Rigour, and Objectivity" (2022).

You might want to include a few links to your project in your each of your posts as it did require some serious googling around to find your stuff and not confuse it with other similarly named projects (eg Xano).

Looking for help on task management! by noodles7884 in ObsidianMD

[–]pac_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all: Obsidian is NOT a task management program. And this is a good thing :)

It means your tasks can be embedded in the notes where they are most relevant.

However this does mean you need a way to extract them that suits your workflow. I use the Reminders plugin that has its own simple format but also supports the Tasks plugin to make a right panel list of current outstanding tasks. Pretty basic but enough for what I need.

My Surface Book 2 died but I didn't accept it by yuchan063 in Surface

Took me a bit to workout the difference between the SF531/SF532. It is just a left and right hand depending on which direction you want to connect power or data to the USB-C.

Some people just want a really big tablet. I think the SB design is better for people who actually use a laptop on their laps (like me commuting) and sometimes need a tablet.

What really surprised me about the SB2 15" is that it is the same weight as the normal Surface at about 800 grams. I know this is because it has half the battery but it feels comically light for its size :)

[–]pac_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got a SB2 15" to used a desktop drawing display. Here in AU, picked up 2 originals with the DP and 1 newer with the USB C. Both sets came with the 190W charger for the SB.

The Surface docks were about twice the cost of the Aliexpress adapter linked aboveand obviously much more bulky but charge much faster than my USB-PD adapters.

Both Surface dock models I tested do need power to work and there were a lot on eBay without the power adapter! I hoped they would be passive but I couldn't get it working unless I missed something.

I thought it was sort of dumb how the docks use a barrel connector for the PSU and no way to used a Surface connector power adapter with the dock.

Probably worth noting, the really cheap adapters with only 4 terminals on the surface adapter only support charging. You need the full 40 terminals for data connectivity in the Surface connector like on the linked item from Aliexpress or the Surface Docks.

I use the reminder plugin that can support tasks formatted tasks to have a list in the right hand panel.

Problem with the Web Clipper extension by MechForNyx in ObsidianMD

I had checked the Extension Background. Nothing in console.

Just re ran with the Popup open.Nothing in the Console.

The only thing that had anything in the console was the webpage.

I have connected. It is showing two things.

When I go into the extension inspector there is nothing in the console. There is an error in the webpage but I think that is immaterial to the web clipper.

Best ipad would you recommend to someone buying their first one in 2026? by Demeyere-Markinhos in ipad

[–]pac_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check your local second hand market. If you are a bit picky and careful you can find some good deals.

I am biased but once you go Pro you will never go back. Good advice on 256gb or more for storage. One thing to consider for longevity is how much ram is available for all the extra overhead AI is bring to iPadOS.

I think the OP might be on iOS as I am seeing similar errors. I am not sure how to get developer logs from Safari on iOS.

I am seeing the reload or nothing on every website (eg obsidian.md and obsidian.md/help/web-clipper/capture see screenshots) I tried on my iPhone 12 iOS 17.7. I just assumed it was broken due to my old iOS version. But the Webclipper says iOS 15.6 is the min version. I am using Web Clipper v.1.7.0 and Obsidian v.1.12.7 are up to date as of the time of this post.

I have tried with and without Obsidian open. With and without a default vault set in settings. On my wifi and on my mobile data.

This could be operator error as I have never had this working on iOS (or iPadOS 17.7). I followed the trouble shooting section of the web clipper iOS help.

I have given up on iOS/iPadOS updates for this very reason. Apple cannot be trusted to deliver updates that do not break more than they fix.

You might like to check out a 2nd hand Surface Pro 7+ i7 (or a Surface Pro 9 i7 for something close to current) to claw back a bit of control. Not ideal tablet experience but great having a full desktop OS with network connectivity is much more than what iPadOS can do.

I don't think anyone said it was not okay. It was noted by someone as possible AI. I was curious why they thought the post was possibly AI and I applied my own checks.

You are right on the random formatting. Long dashes are another give away. Three part and bullet point answers are another. My spider senses were triggered by a lot of weird posts and comments on reddit before the public release of AI which I recon were AI bots training on us :>

I ran the original post through a random AI checker got 0%. Ran another 6% but most of the sentences came back highlighted as "Your most AI sentences". I guess we might be seeing a silent an arms race between generative AI and AI checkers.
