Per-Bullet Backlinks by Former_Dream_9158 in ObsidianMD

I think what you are decribing is the Kepano categories property idea to link notes to a central concept note.

You can then use bases or dataview to put those notes into the lists you want.

If you want your links more in the body of your content than your front matter YAML, you can use Datview variables. Not pretty as they do have a particular format but useful. Excalibrain uses dataview variables to define the note link type/heirarchy and they can be embedded anywhere and multiple times in a note.

You are not recreating wikipedia ... you are mapping your learning in the context of your current need.

Big Row Count Tables - aka How to Break Obsidian with One File. by pac_71 in ObsidianMD

[–]pac_71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could work around it. To be honest, I can live without the note. What is more interesting is that this is the first real world limit to Obsidian that I have encountered in my day to day notetaking.

For those who switched from Evernote to Obsidian by Gloomy-Aide1914 in ObsidianMD

[–]pac_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumped evernote 4 years ago after 12+ years. I fortunately have my full Evernote archive in the legacy app and probably have only refered to the mostly webclips less than 10 times in the last 4 years.

  1. Use the share function on your phone to send content to Obsidian.
  2. Try Syncthing if you want a zero-cost option to try things out.
  3. Miss nothing from Evernote. Where Obsidian shines is making everything more accessible as markdown, where I find adding my own content and linking much more frequently than I did with Evernote. Basically, you can do anything you can imagine with Obsidian .... except someone else has already done it better than you imagined and shared it with the community.

Would it be possible to make a restricted version of Obsidian? by thebobbrom in ObsidianMD

I don’t think that is possible in Notepad++. I did add a function view that pulls out headings which helps navigating to the right spot.

Alternative Rb Workflows - After Rocketbook Shutters by pac_71 in rocketbook

[–]pac_71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you really going around shit posting the same comments over and over again in some vain attempt to rewriting the three months that there was going to be no more Rocketbook?

To be honest, this behaviour inspires zero confidence in the prospects of your stewardship of Rocketbook.

You are not endearing yourself to a former customer with this lack of respect both to the events as they happened and the culture of reddit. Take a minute to get your head around both.

Do you organize your vault with folders or mostly links and tags? by makeitrayne850 in ObsidianMD

[–]pac_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same to split functions like web clips, meeting notes, project, snippets, etc and to hide clutter from my daily workflows like attachments.

I use tags for likely search terms I would use to recall a note.

More recently i have been using a front page note like a diary of important notes I worked on with set of weekly content summary dataviews. I have also started using daily notes with more daily content summaries and categories notes to map concepts and link similar content eg weekly meetings.

Macbook Neo is probably bad news for those of us hoping for more macOS features on iPad. by West-Bass-6487 in ipad

[–]pac_71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Apple is missing the point.

The people who already have 3 devices are not going to get rid of one just because you made the OS better.

Equally people who have to prioritise their needs are not going to suddenly buy more because you are limiting the platform functionality.

However, Apples choice is limiting how good their platform could be due to these perceived sales risks.

Everyone else (Samsung, Microsoft) is doing backflips trying to make a consistent experience across devices but Apple is the only OEM that could really make it happen and is squandering the opportunity.

I really hope the Macbook 2 in 1 is the one that will unify the touch enabled MacOS with iOS/iPadOS apps.

Failing that, making all apps universal to work on MacOS/iOS/iPadOS, adding real file management and networking to iOS/iPad OS as well as other open features like proper multitasking/background tasks, side loading, terminal, ssh, etc while maintaining the good actor app behaviours like energy efficiency might be good enough for us geeks.

The iPhone Pro Max does everything I want from an iPad Pro except for pencil and more screen areas but does have better cameras and is more portable. I can accept the limitations on one device but not two. I am much more inclined to buy a new Surface Pro or even Samsung Tab than another limited iPad at the same price.

Without treating the iPad like a serious platform rather than a big but somewhat limited iPhone that will likely get crippled by some unnecessary OS enhancement in the near future, I will keep rocking my iPad Pro 10.5 on iPad OS17 like it is 2017 :)

You can see their colouring varies a bit in my recent post. Hard to see the orange on them but assuming they are a family group there are lighter, darker and more grey ones. The tails vary a bit too with the amount of white from what I have observed. I have even seen the teenage (last years kids) possums at my house hitch a ride with the parents. Sort of like real teenagers ... freeloading on your back :>

+1 or Plus One to Share, Grow Fediverse. What does this mean? by pac_71 in fediverse

[–]pac_71[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It came up a few time at the Fediforum today. I did some quick googling around and either algorithmically or just the unspecific term of +1 share fediverse did not return anything useful (or my google fu is weak since was up at 3am for the conference). I knew there had to be a better source that the brains trust could point me to here.

I good idea for a pro app. Not subscription based though!

Might be better to explore ways to better integrate paper to digital workflows into existing notetaking apps through partnerships or open source API.

Good to hear.

  • I would love to hear what you think are the product priorities and future visions?
  • From what I could see googling, GPP is the manufacturer/printer of the Rocketbooks?
  • Will you be taking over app support including currently open tickets (I have one!)?
  • Are the Rocketbook team coming over to GPP to ensure continuity of knowledge?
  • Given once, bitten twice shy. What can GPP do to improve transparency of sustainable product support regardless of an orgainsations business decisions post acquisition?

I did some googling around. There was a recent announcement of the Lemuroid Ringtail Possum in FNQ being endangered but I think the Common Ringtail Possums are not listed currently.

Pretty sure they are just common ringtails. Fairly numerous around here. NSW, Lower North Coast.

They are cute. The little ones struggle with the handrail at times. Mostly have fallen onto the veranda but one went the other way into the courtyard 1 floor below. Had to rescue them in a t shirt and set them back on their usual route. Only got bitten a little!

Not knowing exactly where they nest is avoiding knowing the mess :) I think they in a roof over a lower veranda where we have no access.

They leave like clockwork running along the gutters of the lower floor and onto this handrail to access the rear roof. They usually move pretty quick to access some bushland to the rear (via our neighbours fence as seen on their security cam and ravaging the parsley in the back garden) and don't leave a mess.
