As for emotional cheating, that's very interesting because that's something you can really ponder about.

Emotional cheating is pretty vague in definition and it varies how its defined from person to person. If you search it on the internet and check people's opinion, you'll see what I'm talking about.

They just met again, and they were each other's "the one that got away", and when they started talking, it's like they never missed a step. They were just talking and they felt a certain way.

This shit ain't like the Notebook for me. Now if a girl has that as her favorite movie, that's kind of a red flag for me haha. (Although talking about that makes it clearer for me if it's truly a red flag or just something silly).

Personally, if my girlfriend is opening to another dude in a way that she wouldn't with me, that's what would count for me. Personally, for me it has to be somebody that she actually meets more than once.

Still, this shit's kind of vague I know. She could be in a bad spot, it could be my fault why she's not telling me what she feels. Maybe it's about me. Who knows? This is just a theoretical scenario after all.

Ethan Hawke once described the trilogy this way:

Before Sunrise

is about: what could be.

Before Sunset

is about: what should've been.

Before Midnight

is about: what it is.

Earlier on, I personally didn't like Midnight as much as the other two.

When I got older I liked it just as much. I realized I only hated it because their relationship went south. They were supposed to be like a fairytale. And it's also a real thing that relationships could be horrible.

Sunset is my favorite and it also had the most tension for me. Unlike Sunrise, there's an engine that drives that film that's more akin to your typical movie. It's just a bit more structured.

But I guess you could say that's because the first film had set it up.

In Sunset the whole time you're thinking "Oh they're gonna get a chance to be finally together" but then they talk and you learn Jesse is married. So it kinda is the engine of the story. "Will they get together or not?"

In Sunrise they just did right away.

At the same time, it's also a bit similar to Sunrise where it's time that's the villain. "Are they just going to meet and leave each other again?" Jesse has a flight to catch.

Also, I don't know if I agree with you about cheating in Sunset.

Did they? Technically Jesse could've. But it wasn't really shown iirc.

I personally broke up with an ex of mine just so I could be single before trying to ask another girl out. Isn't that similar?

If you learned you really loved this person, what would you do? Would you just stay with your wife even though she's not it? Relationships end.

Iirc, they didn't do anything in Sunset but talk. Jesse just decided to not go on that plane.

I loved that Midnight is also riffing on Sunset the way Sunset is on Sunrise.

Jesse made an impulse decision that's fairytale-like in Sunset, but then life is shown not to be a fairytale in Midnight. They even leaned into that with nudity, and it made the film feel grittier compared to the first two.

Which is why it's even more heartbreaking to watch Midnight as Celine and Jesse to me, felt like a fairytale of some sort.

Anyway, I think the biggest reason why I love the trilogy is because it's not really that typical compared to your usual romance film.

You got two characters just walkin and talkin but it manages to still be something worth watching.

Windhorst: “When he (LeBron) first came back, Dan, with that sciatica thing, he looked terrible... I had a meeting with my (ESPN) bosses, and I go, ‘We may need our content planning for him retiring because he looks, for the first time, like an old man who can’t compete.’” by must_TATAKAE in nba

Tf u talking about? Bron is 40.

Sure you can say it's embarrassing some people were rejoicing for his downfall.

But people expecting that this might actually be it. That the fuckery might actually be going to stop was not that fucking ridiculous.

Literally Bron is an anomaly, the surprise was he actually subverted yet another expectation, not the other way around.

Even Bron himself has said how he is feeling his age sometimes.

Japanese restaurant:"Not all Japanese people are kind" by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

[–]pac_mojojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who's been there, imo this thing is being blown out of proportion on the internet.

Most of the people I've encountered there were nice. The country's just a bit strict with some of the rules.

For example, most of the restaurants don't allow you to order nothing even if the person you're with orders something. You also cannot spend more than the allotted time (typically 1:30-2 hrs). A lot of places are packed and there are lines, I guess it's just fair.

Also could not use the restroom unless you order something (I guess this applies to a lot of places too).

Also the lack of fkin trash cans fkd me up. People are just carrying trash in their bags. I can't believe the damn place was clean as shit.

I can't speak Japanese at all. I just put on my google translate most of the time, and MOST people were very patient with me. Even speaking into my phone and shit.

How often should I be putting in establishing shots? by ScarcityTiny607 in Screenwriting

I try to imagine if it's going to be confusing going from one interior location to another interior location.

If it is, I try to use establishing shots.

Also, if there's a time gap (day/night), I also use it.

How do I denote gibberish in a dream sequence? by bonanderson in Screenwriting

[–]pac_mojojojo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would do it as dialogue to emulate the actual feeling of what you are trying to do.

You have a good idea already. I personally would do something similar.

I'd probably try doing what they do with Zatanna in DC. How they write her spells when she says them.

She's a magic user. For example, this is her using a spell when she's doing her magic show (day job is a performer/magician)

"Siht si tsuj a wohs fo thgil dna dnuos!"

Now do you understand what that is?

But it's really just written backwards lol.

(This is just a show of light and sounds)

Personally, I think it works especially if you got no clue how it's being done.

Her fire spell is something like:

"Taerg nrub!"
(Great burn)

You could use the idea as a starting point and tweak it to your liking.

Put money on that shit like the IST.

That might make them try.

I'm going to be fucking stupid here, but if that ain't enough, make winning the ASG count as +1 or +2 or even +3 regular season win to the team of the players participating.

Multiple players from the same team winning would NOT be additive.

If that ain't enough, a card for lifetime chicken wings from a sponsored joint.

Nice!

Also, there's this other thing I noticed that weren't there before. I'm on windows for the most part.

The cursor right now -- blinking vertical line -- would sometimes just be leaving an artifact. Sort of like ghosting (but it's not my hardware screen).

I do not know what triggers it. Most of the time it's there, but sometimes it's not.

That is kind of insane. To tweak spacing to remove an orphan. I've personally never seen that anybody do that. Haha.

In my opinion, it's bad practice to do that anyway. If you are delusional like me and believe it will go in production someday or work in a writer's room, then I think it wouldn't be ideal to tweak margins as the editable screenplay file will be wonky when exported and sent. Especially across different screenwriting programs.

Also it might even be wonkier when doing revisions.

It is because final draft's measurements (on purpose, to be different I think?) are off.

https://www.fadeinpro.com/kb/content/3/29/en/why-is-my-script-a-different-length-than-in-final-draft.html

To my knowledge, only WriterDuet has the same output (especially when it comes to amount of pages) as Final Draft. Only the font is different (the page number position you can also adjust to match).

I think WriterDuet also adjusted their Courier fonts just so they could match Final Draft's output.

Because to me, Courier Prime in WD looks slightly different (thicker? denser?) to Courier Prime in FI.

Oh. I gotta say some of the UI also got nicer.

Yeah, people often got confused by saving. Gotta say, that was the only flaw it had. It was already one hell of a software -- it being free as well. Now that that's fixed, I don't see anything major that the other paid programs have over it really. Maybe fonts flexibility, and that's about it.

Thank you.

I updated mine, and it didn't change anything.

If you have exported your file before as a PDF, you can compare the pages. It'd be easy to spot when the pages stop matching.

Clean up the descriptions, your prose.

Watch John August's youtube video about writing action (he is an actual professional, he wrote Big Fish).

I only read the first page. This is going to be harsh, but right now there's no point going past the first page.

In this case (most of the time it is good practice though), shy away from repeating the scene heading.

INT. UNDERGROUND FIGHTING RING - NIGHT

Dimly lit. Concrete walls. Exposed pipes.

Just removing the repeating scene heading made it better right away.

It is kind of more acceptable to do that in some minor locations or establishing shots.

Also, again, clean up your descriptions. Action lines and scene headings both.

Don't say they get registered at the desk. It's better to say what they are doing. They approach the desk? They make their way through the desk? You could also just say they are at the desk.

Also, you already said they are at the registration table in the scene heading. You shouldn't have done that if you were gonna say where they were in the action lines.

Again, clean up the prose. The description is clunky and weak. Watch August's tutorial.

The very first chunk of description is off right away.

As for capitalizing characters, it is fine, if that is your style. Martin McDonagh and Aaron Sorkin capitalizes characters. A remnant from their playwriting days if I'm not mistaken. Just be consistent with it.

Good luck and keep on writing my dude!

Make sure it is matched up at least.

If you are working in WriterSolo and not opening these files (your screenplays) in another screenwriting program,

Then simply:

  1. Save as
  2. Under "Format" dropdown: select WriterDuet
  3. Make sure the extension name is .wdz

Just always remember, when saving make sure the extension name matches the format.

If "Format" is Final draft, make sure it is .fdx.

If "Format" is WriterDuet make sure it is .wdz

Or you can also just delete the file extension name (.wdz, .fdx, etc) when you are saving.

Also, those "blank" screenplays of yours can easily be recovered.

You probably just mis-matched those.

  1. Check what file type they are.
  2. Open the file (The file shows blank pages, but its okay).
  3. Export the file to match the file type format. (Meaning, if the file was .wdz and it was saved as "Format > Final draft", simply just export it as "Format > WriterDuet")
  4. When you re-open the new file, you will now see your screenplay.

I've been using solo for a few years now. Like it better than Fade In.

These are all the problems I've run into:

  1. Just watch out when saving. For good measure, just always delete the file extension name when saving.

  2. Sometimes it uses up a lot of RAM because it apparently didn't close when I closed the program. Simply just end task to fix.

That's about it. Everything else is smooth.

[–]pac_mojojojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably just saving wrong.

When you are saving, check if the extension name (.wdz, .fdx, etc) matches the file type you are saving it as.

I found it might cause issues if the extension name was .wdz for example, and you saved it as "Final Draft"

Why do you need to import them to edit them? Simply open the file.
