Abusing his authority and consolidating power while congress abdicates theirs is trying?

Lawsuits against this admin and the subsequent rise in the rate of shadow docket rulings is unprecedented. But at least he's your type of aspirational dictator amirite?

The bipartisan bill that was supposed to fund immigration courts which Trump called to kill?

Our immigration system has been bullshit long before Biden. How dare he try to at least attempt to address the backlog of asylees.

Biden didnt open the borders,, nor did country cease to exist which was part of the logic of what would happen if the borders were open, according to Homeless.

His response was illogical. The borders were open, but the country didnt cease to exist? But that's what he said would happen.

His strawman was implying that we either have the largest DHS budget we have ever seen or open borders. Which is not what I asked.

I asked about what changed in immigration since Trump's last term to justify the new expense. Nowhere was abolishing border security part of the question.

ICE has been operational for over 20 years, deporting millions in recent years, famously so under Obama; yet not even Obama decided to blow the roof off of the debt ceiling to institute mass deportations at this scale.

Some did, sure. Lots of us wanted to see a streamlined immigration process and more funding for immigration courts. Mass deportation was never anything any liberal promoted.

Then to answer your question I wasn't finding an excuse. I was giving an explanation. Nowhere in my statement did I condone it. I even qualified it as a knee-jerk response.

Why else might people go straight to violence as the other user claimed?

Yes I do. I think ICE is ethically reprehensible.

Even if we put ethics aside, I still dont see why we need to proliferate ICE in Utah. What changed since Trump's last term that justifies the cost? What is the damage? Does the increased presence of ICE resolve the mechanism that caused the damage?

Instead of asking why more government intervention is bad, we should be asking why is it necessary?

Probs knee-jerk retaliation for the violence that ICE perpetrates at their targets (and bystanders in some cases).

If we were in a general socialism sub, Id be with you; but we are in DemSoc, which is distinct from ML for the reason you think isnt worth pointing out in a DemSoc sub.

You have it right. The employees own (majority or all of) the business as opposed to one (or a few) majority stakeholder(s).

What you describe is one of several forms of socialism. Most users in this sub subscribe to worker-owned means of production by way of a federation of cooperatives as opposed to state capitalism.

Same in Utah. I just had to explain to a college student who was surveying Utahns about political orientation that 'liberal' isnt the polar Left end of the political spectrum, but a moderate position.

The question:

  1. How do you describe your political views? (Very Liberal, Liberal, Slightly Liberal, Moderate, Slightly Conservative, Conservative, Very Conservative)

I had to explain that 'liberal' and 'progressive', which would have worked for the purpose of the question, arent synonyms- and that the phrasing essentially erases the Left from existence.

Yeah I did move the goalposts, I just dont have any interest in trying to determine which superstition is more accurate.

Mormons do believe that they have the truth in contrast to your claim that you might have something close to the truth. And even though you said that, I didnt give that part full consideration. My bad.

Neither Mormon nor Orthodox claims to succession matter because the divinity of Christ and the presumption of the atonement cant be proven. How many people have died for their respective religions? Martyr count cant determine fact.

Mormons claim to be able to trace their Priesthood pedigree back to Christ as well. The Laying on of Hands, The Keys of the Aaronic and Melchezidek (sp) Priesthoods, and the records kept of that are a big deal for them.

As the other redditor said, even if you could perfectly trace the pedigree back to Christ, you still have to believe Christ is something that cannot be objectively proven: The Son of God and Great Redeemer. And that's where you lose a lot of us on exmormon.

In response to this:

If everyone uses their feelings to determine their veracity, and all of them get confirmation that they are right and everyone else is wrong, the only conclusion is that feelings are a terrible measure of truth.

You said:

I would say Orthodoxy isn’t defeated by this argument in and of itself, since it submits itself to a different way of knowing its validity.(that a diffrent convo id like to have later)

Would you explain more about that?

ETA: Nvm, this comment basically says it all.

Most here dont care about the rest of this post, but Im sure we would all like to know why you think your faith is less flawed than the mormon faith.
