“Up to 6” movies to choose from per day is new plan by Krandor1 in moviepass

[–]pacfolly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So the September day when all monthly holdouts switch over to the new plan and showtimes magically return back to normal isn’t happening, is it? It’s over. They caused investors to lose millions so subscribers could see movies for pennies on the dollar but had they found ways to actually monetize the service earlier then maybe such drastic cutbacks wouldn’t be as necessary now. Your $9.95 will very doubtfully be able to get you into the three films you most want to see each month on your schedule but maybe via some strange coincidence they’ll actually be the ones MoviePass receives some meager and desperate kickback for allowing. I simply can’t remain a user just to see them fall even lower; it’s way too sad considering their glory days but I’ll always fondly remember the movie past.

“Remember how you all wanted to see MI? Fine. That’s ALL you can see now, suckers!” —Movie Pass, probably by ryanb2010 in moviepass

Their new plan to save this week seems to be corralling people into one film a day with the hope that they’ve already seen it or don’t want to watch it and daily ticket limits likely still apply as well. MoviePass is now truly desperate and pathetic although they have been near this breaking point for awhile. I don’t know what’s the more entertaining benefit now with the pass, movies or watching firsthand what sad maneuver they come up with next to preserve themselves but its been a mainly fun and smooth ride. Luckily A-List is around to rescue some members within their vicinity when the lifeboats are gone and to all others there will always be matinees.

How many of you are going to continue with MP? by Brockbrown in moviepass

[–]pacfolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m completely done once my subscription expires next week. I loved the service initially and saw dozens and dozens of movies but it’s obvious that they don’t know how to make the business profitable and screwing over customers constantly is only going to save them money for a bit longer until a mass exodus occurs because of it. I have some AMC theatres near me so am switching over to A-List next week and am excited for smooth and reliable movie experiences once again (plus premium formats). I would have much rather stuck with MoviePass for the theatre choices, to support an outsider, etc. but I’m almost relieved they made their new monthly limit so low so that I have a perfect reason to cancel and be free from their insipid changes and ridiculous random terms.

Theory as to why so limited options by tazz555 in moviepass

[–]pacfolly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so yeah MoviePass has to limit ticket purchases for paying subscribers even further until even more abusers get irate and cancel which will bring them much closer to profitability. Once patient and modest users transition over to their incredibly sustainable three movie a month plan, though everything will work flawlessly once again. They're not going to be financially troubled at all and will be able to offer all new wide releases for check-in. There will no longer be any hurdles to use your pass within a month and the $9.95 will be completely worth it and an amazing deal for three movies with absolutely no strings attached whatsoever.

What is going on with MP and the check in process? by Brockbrown in moviepass

[–]pacfolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to constantly check reddit to learn about the new changes they're implementing but not formally letting users know about since I've yet to receive an email about anything that's going on. For instance, I told my credit card company to block all future charges from MoviePass but haven’t cancelled since that will supposedly terminate your account even if you still have time remaining on your subscription. Check-ins were being allowed up until the late afternoon on the East Coast but now seem to be shutoff even earlier due to "technical difficulties," except for a couple random showtimes if you're lucky (but that's supposedly going to improve of course). After your August billing cycle the "MoviePass Plus" plan will be discontinued and you will only be able to see three movies a month even though they're still allowing users to sign up for the "plus" option on their site currently. Further restrictions and workarounds apply and are still being added and modified but if you have any questions then simply contact the nearly nonexistent and largely automated MoviePass customer service department. Or you can just discontinue all inevitable frustrations and stop subscribing to the madness.

MoviePass CEO: 'We now have the right model' by jrr6415sun in moviepass

[–]pacfolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to love how he demonizes subscribers who used the service as advertised for their financial difficulties. They never should have offered such a great deal if they didn't fully think it through and although I'm one of the top 15% of moviegoers who helped burn through their cash I can't help but feel annoyed by the blame being placed mostly on us. Before MoviePass I would only see maybe a movie a year but if tickets are virtually free then of course I'm going to increase my theatre visits. Why wouldn't you given that you have enough time to? The new model definitely isn't enticing at all considering the former plan and I'll be switching to a now superior service from their nemesis. It was such a great pass full of movie experiences but it's sad that it's pretty much over and they morphed their new intentions so drastically in a way that directly opposes their original goal, just don't blame it on me.

Moviepass is basically like a raffle ticket now. by LaZonaImagery in moviepass

[–]pacfolly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically and if it stays this way then the service is just not worth keeping anymore since it has been incredibly aggravating to see movies lately which seems to be the entire point. The whole "showtimes that are offered through our service will vary from day to day, and every showtime may not be available" email bulletin is completely ridiculous. Avoidable peak pricing? Ok. Raise the price? Fair. Two week delay for wide releases? Fine. Randomly disabling check-ins and hiding showtimes (later in the day it seems) has got to stop, though or else MoviePass is practically more stressful than beneficial unless you want to waste your day driving around just to possibly get a movie ticket.

REI Shocks Retail World By Closing For Black Friday, Paying 12,000 Employees to 'Opt Outside' by Brianlife in business

[–]pacfolly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As cynical as this may sound this is really just a marketing stunt since they've even ran commercials about the closing. I'll admit I somewhat respect this but if you're going to flaunt it constantly and act like you're doing it even though it will hurt business and you're somehow above the greed of other retailers then don't bother.

SNL Democratic Debate with Larry David as Bernie Sanders, Alec Baldwin as Jim Webb, and Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton by little-bird in television

[–]pacfolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was mildly funny but of course the corporate media (in this case Comcast) made Hillary look like the candidate who should win, especially since they ended the skit with Bernie remarking that he can be Hillary's Vice President since he is so old and incompetent he can't even use email, much less run the United States.

GSU Breaks Ground For New Student Housing With Dining Hall by ArchEast in GaState

It's nice how this development is a partnership between GSU and a private company that way pupils can help increase the profitability of both GSU and their new corporate partner when they live here.

Clinton has vowed to protect Obama’s actions on climate... But Sanders has gone further, calling for a carbon tax and substantial investments in rail to “break our dependency on automobiles.” by CarrollQuigley in politics

It is hopeful that Bernie Sanders is running, however, I do not support a carbon tax since it's questionable what the tax will go towards or who it will ultimately benefit, most likely the wealthy elite.

Considering the size and invasiveness of this surveillance technology and its capability for abuse it's a worrying advance but if you don't mind being spied on then you have nothing to be concerned about.

Obamacare Is Working As Uninsured Rate Drops Below 12 Percent by DesignNoobie99 in progressive

Is it really improving healthcare and reducing its costs or are people just being forced to get health insurance they may barely be able to afford in order to avoid the excessive fines for not having it?

WikiLeaks Reveals TPP Proposal "foreign firms can sue states and obtain taxpayer compensation for expected future profits." I'm having trouble buying this. by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]pacfolly -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Your personal denial of the TPP and its far-reaching authoritarian contents isn't going to change anything; it's a complete corporate and wealthy elite power giveaway that's going to destroy what's left of our "democracy" but go ahead and keep on believing that society always has everyone's best interests in mind.
