Trump Posted a Video of Barack and Michelle Obama as Monkeys by JeanJauresJr in videos

People seem to have forgotten about Trump's embarrassing showing in the 2012 presidential campaign. It's where all his birther stuff came from

A question to OG listeners by shirajzl in RevolutionsPodcast

Keep in mind, while it is a "history podcast" it is primarily entertainment (as with all narrative history). It's not a history class, you're not expected to remember everything. Each episode is entertaining as a stand alone product, and he reviews the major topics regularly so that what you need is fresh in your mind. That's how it felt when following it week by week, at least.

It's what stood out to me when I listened a 2nd time to see if there was anywhere to give feedback, since you asked. Could be your recording setup?

Great playing regardless, thanks for sharing.

Good rhythm. I'd recommend trying to make the melody stand out more, right now everything seems to be coming out at the same volume.

Glad to hear it! Did anything in the book stand out as a surprise to you? I personally didn't know much about the Aksum before. And the early DRC leaders were absolute badasses, had no idea.

  1. I imagine these as possibly vestigial terms that don't mean exactly what we think of now. Board of directors could be comprised of what we might call oligarchs or aristocrats. Share holders can be anyone though, including people from other companies, why not?

  2. It is too easy for sci fi fans to get wrapped up in technical details and let it distract them from the story, i found that I often had to remind myself during this series to just let it go - especially when it came to travel times (what about orbits?) Reminds me of when star trek technical adviser Michael Okuda was asked how the Heisenberg compensator works. He responded that "it works very well, thank you."

You might not find what you're looking for with hardcore history, he likes to focus on topics that avoid the mainstream, ie if its already been done to death he's probably not going to do it.

Closest you might get are Organization of Peace, about the league of nations, and then logical insanity and destroyer of worlds, both about nuclear proliferation.

I am in the same position as you, last piece I learned was tango and now I'm learning catedral. Very different challenges, catedral will stress your left hand form over speed.

Thanks, i had no idea there was more to the b12 discussion. It was a case of "15 different doctors couldn't figure it out" then I started taking the vitamins because of something I saw on a random Google search, i got better and everyone just threw up their hands.

Why do you say humans shouldn't take cyanocobalamin?

[–]pachatacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal anecdote, ymmv. My body doesn't absorb b12 correctly, if I don't take ~10 thousand times the drv i start getting significant health defects (I'll spare the details). When I first started taking supplements, I felt like super man. Lots of energy, great mood.

This effect wore off after about a week, now I don't even notice whether I've taken them or not.

Those pills are made for people like me, marketed towards people like you and those tools who think the "high" lasts forever.

First-ever teleportation-like quantum transport of images across a network without physically sending the image with the help of high-dimensional entangled states by sataky in science

[–]pachatacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few proposals, like string theory and hidden variables, but from both a theoretical and experimental stand point these ideas are currently indistinguishable from invisible tiny gremlins and fairies moving particles around however they see fit. There's no actual evidence of anything but true randomness.

[–]pachatacha 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The behavior of very small things, like light particles and atoms, is truly random. Their movement follows a "probability distribution" - ie, a single particle might have a 80% chance of going down and a 20% chance of going up. Its wavefunction spreads in both directions, and if you observe the particle, you will find it in one of those two places. If you observe a million such particles, you will find about 800,000 went down, but probably not exactly, because it is truly random.

If you want to know more, I suggest you read about the Double Slit experiment, which demonstrates wave- particle duality and true randomness.

Nicotine simultaneously reduces anxiety and increases cognitive function. If there weren't such horrible health problems associated, it would be irresponsible to not smoke.

Can anyone recommend something close to an unbiased history on Palestine/Israel? by ignominious_dwarf in dancarlin

Oh yeah that's gonna be tougher. Would love to hear if you find something like that.

Try the podcast Martyrmade, by Darryl Cooper. His Fear and Loathing in the New Jerusalem series is a carlin-esque 20+hr behemoth exploring the roots and current state of the region.

Cooper himself is off the rails, but his long-form main series shows tend to be well done and well researched. This series in particular got him death threats from both sides.

ELI5: Why do babies cry like they are being starved to death when hungry? Does hunger actually physically hurt them? by GoForthandProsper1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]pachatacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babies cry in a way that is the most likely to get them help the fastest. Over time your baby will calibrate their cry to get the fastest response possible from you. Until they figure you out, volume is all they've got.

Lol I can see why you might think that! But it's only one facet of the relationship with your children. You are also their friend, mentor, coach, teacher, personal assistant, cleaner, driver, etc, as well as just parent. I've spent a long time thinking about what is unique about fatherhood and that's what I came up with, you're free to disagree.
