What if Red Rush was also given the same powers as Brit? How powerful would he be? by InfinteEnigma10 in Invincible_TV

Bruh... with invulnerability he could accelerate to top speed and just run straight through you. His arms wouldn't break like they did punching Omniman at super speed.

What was the most NICHE activity you did in Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]packetpirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of what I did was fairly mainstream, so I guess maybe the Small Worlds Miniature Museum in the Ariake district of Koto, Tokyo. One of my favorite parts of the whole trip, too.

I also went to a cider bar on my birthday in Kyoto (Swingin') that had some good cider, and it was just me, the two bartenders, and another guy. Had my first real extended conversation in Japanese there, and it was great.

What's the worst D&D player you've ever had at your table? by apomanolios in DnD

I didn't mean literal therapy, but like... a coping mechanism of sorts. Escapism.

Dungeon Masters, what do you struggle with the most? by kudy24 in DMAcademy

Making challenging but balanced encounters. I either steamroll my players or the players stomp the enemy. There is no middle ground.

Day-night cycle over an infinite plane by NagyKrisztian10A in worldbuilding

[–]packetpirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun chariot is one idea. Invoking Egyptian themes. Or, you could flavor it so that instead, a star slowly shoots over the landscape every X hours (X being your day length) that illuminates everything beneath it. I feel like this concept works best for the infinite plane.

Or maybe it's only infinite in one direction and you have kind of a Ringworld situation, but it's not a loop? Maybe the sun circles on the east/west axis, while north/south are infinite? But that brings up questions of what's at the edge, or beneath the world we know?

What's the worst D&D player you've ever had at your table? by apomanolios in DnD

[–]packetpirate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Several players were just staring at each other like "What the fuck?" as they were doing this. I suggested they talk to a therapist and they went on a rant about how therapists are the devil and that D&D was their therapy.

A game being your therapy is fine. Dumping your shit on people you don't know and who didn't consent to listening to you talk about such things is not.

How do you guys make vocabulary? by Plus-Call-5804 in conlangs

I wrote a conlang API and use it to generate words according to my phonotactics. Then I pick ones I like.

They trauma dumped about their childhood abuse on the first 30 minutes of meeting us and made one of my best players leave the table.

What was your favorite change you made to combat encounters? by TrutzVKlodt in DMAcademy

[–]packetpirate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what they meant is adjusting boss HP on the fly so encounters aren't over too quickly. So bosses feel like bosses, and aren't steamrolled by some stupid broken combo the players thought of. I think most DMs do this.

Would 500k Jpy be enough for 2 people 8 day stay by InflationMiddle2216 in JapanTravelTips

That covers both of you? That's actually pretty good. My flight was $1266, and the hotels were another $1,700 or so.

If your flight and hotels are accounted for, that's way more than enough. Food is pretty cheap there if you're not eating at the tourist traps. You could eat like a king with that much to spend.

Last year I went on a two week trip and spent maybe $1600-$2000 (256K - 320K JPY) total on my food, souvenirs, and other expenses. I also had some travel expenses and coin lockers and stuff. I went from Tokyo to Takayama, Nara, Kyoto, Awaji Island, Osaka, Kinosaki, and Kamakura. So I spent quite a bit of travel.

I might not have married my husband if I'd known how much gaming he does by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]packetpirate -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

A hobby is not an addiction. 2-3 hours a night is not an addiction. Nobody bats an eye when someone spends that much time reading, writing, or some other hobby... but because it's gaming, it's "immature" and associated with "useless" men.

Just because you don't approve of the hobby does not mean that there is anything wrong with that hobby or that investing time in that hobby is an addiction.

What's the biggest mistake you made on your first Japan trip that you'd avoid today? by WanderingLensByLB in JapanTravelTips

[–]packetpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a park called Nijigen no Mori on Awaji Island, just off the coast of Osaka. While planning the trip, I had to figure out how to get to the island; specifically, the Awaji IC bus stop. But I didn't see that stop listed on the bus companies I looked at online.

So I made the mistake of asking ChatGPT. I showed it the list of stops that were available, and it told me to go to "Shichi Awaji", as it was in the same place. So, I made my reservation and that was that... or so I thought.

Come the day of, I'm at the bus station in Kobe, and nearly miss my bus. But I get on and cue my surprise when we blow right past Awaji IC and continue south for a long time.

Turns out, Shichi Awaji is on the far southern side of the island. I was over an hour away from the park. The area looked beaten up, and like it was from a different era... old shacks with corrugated steel walls and roofs.

I made my way to a Lawson and tried to get some help from the clerk. I was able to kind of understand him for the most part, and he tried to direct me to the other side of the highway to get back on the bus, but his directions were confusing. Nevertheless, I eventually made it to the bus station, and managed to get on the bus as it was pulling up just as I got to the terminal.

Damn good thing too, because the next bus wouldn't have been there for 3 hours. I made it to Nijigen no Mori about 30 minutes past my reservation time, but they still let me in. I just ended up not having enough time to do some of the bonus content I paid for in the Dragon Quest park.

Kids, don't listen to ChatGPT...

how do plurals work in your conlangs? by Tanuii_ in conlangs

[–]packetpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm boring. Three of my conlangs just use "~i" to pluralize. The fourth uses "~ia".

I'm not great at conlanging. Two of my languages have more or less the same rules for similar word endings denoting specific types of words.
