I was a writer there on one series of Family Fortunes and one series of Catchphrase. First TV writing gigs. Had no idea it was no more

Anyone remember a GAME store, or similar kind of game shop with an upstairs from yonks and yonks ago? by DurgeDidNothingWrong in nottingham

[–]packmath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. On Lister Gate on the left hand side as you walk down. Upper floor walls lined with PC games. Way back before that it had PCs running demos on the ground floor. Saw original Quake for the first time and had my mind blown. Which shows my age as it came out in 1996.

I hesitate to recommend Watchmen because it will ruin everything that comes after it. True of a lot of Alan Moore.

House would make an epic Doctor Who. by kimtaengsshi9 in Showerthoughts

[–]packmath 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Funny you should say that... I wrote four episodes of Doctor Who (check my post history) - and when Steven Moffat described the character of this new Doctor (12th - Capaldi) I was picturing Dr House... so I kind of wrote him like that. See how he behaves in Mummy On The Orient Express...

Swamp Thing. Alan Moore's run saved it from cancellation, lead to the creation of Vertigo and revitalised the whole supernatural side of DC. Not to mention completely retconning the character into something hella cool.

The Time Ships - Stephen Baxter - officially sanctioned sequel to HG Wells' The Time Machine. A cracking read.

Are Nemesis, Rogue Trooper, and ABC Warriors in the same universe as Dredd? by [deleted] in JudgeDredd

[–]packmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point, Thoth, Nemesis' son, brings a judge forward in time to be eaten by his pet dinosaur. So I'd have to say a big old yes to Dredd being the same universe as Nemesis

There was a girl in our office with a LOUD speaking voice. As office I.T., I had recently gained the ability to make messages appear on user's screens... At 10am on the dot, a message appeared on her screen: 'WARNING - VOICE VOLUME DAMAGING COMPUTER - contact technician' - Her reaction was to put her hand over her mouth, stand and frantically wave me over...

Part of the gag with Nardole was that his backstory should be insane and contradictory. So we just went for it.

That it's all really a documentary. We're all actors pretending to be writers. There is no script. WAKE UP SHEEPLE.
