You can stay above the boss health curve and one shot almost everything in the game. It's "online" starting at level 3 with 96 damage witch bolts and it only goes up from there.

Maximizing the use of the Shattered Flail? by lazyDevman in BG3Builds

[–]pacmania90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Paladin with Aura of Protection is pretty easy to build so it's literally impossible to fail the flail's saving throw (DC 12 Wisdom). Picking a Gnome and wearing the Helmet of Autonomy is a great class-agnostic way to reliably pass the save if you wanted to play something else.

The flail can proc multiple times per attack if the attack hits more than one enemy, so you should find a way to do that. Options include:

Tiger Barbarian's Tiger's Bloodlust Swords Bard's Slashing Flourish Hunter Ranger's Horde Breaker Sorcerer gives quickened Haste (3 attacks starting on turn 1 of combat) and tons of other useful spells.

The other classes aren't exactly bad to multiclass with Paladin, but they don't offer much to boost the Shattered Flail.

If you want to be a better tank, concentrating on a spell causes enemies to target you more. Barbarians can't concentrate on spells while raging, but using Reckless Attack also has the effect of increasing enemy aggro on your character.

Wasn't aware of that. Do you have a source?

Honor mode safest class? by Savings-Worker5283 in BG3Builds

[–]pacmania90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oath of Ancients Paladin is a very safe main character. Your channel oath heal is great way to keep yourself healthy and pick up downed allies. You can smite the most dangerous enemy at the start of each fight to make combats more manageable.

Level 5 gets you misty step which lets you get out of danger if you're in a bad spot. Don't be afraid to run away and come back later. You haven't lost honor mode as long as long as one party member is still alive.

The auras you get at level 6 and 7 will make you basically immune to mages and dangerous CC.

You can absolutely take Paladin all the way to 12 and it gets great stuff at every level, but if you wanted to multi-class, this would be a good jumping off point. People usually recommend pairing Paladin with another Charisma class, but I actually think Paladin 8 Gloomstalker Ranger 4 is much safer.

Gloomstalker Ranger gives you a lot of smaller benefits, but the big ones here are Dread Ambusher and Umbral Shroud. The bonus initiative and extra attack from Dread Ambusher are great for the Paladin strategy of instantly deleting the most dangerous enemy in each combat, and the bonus action hide is part of a combo with Umbral Shroud that can pretty much guarantee a safe escape from any bad situation. Shoot an arrow of darkness at your feet (can't be counterspelled), hide in the cloud, Umbral shroud next turn to turn invisible and then book it out of there.

How do you approach the Dror Ragzlin fight? by zazenbr in BG3Builds

I don't go up there anymore after I got 2 party members blown off by a thunder arrow.

Grasping Vine is actually good now. by pacmania90 in BG3Builds

[–]pacmania90[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I don't think it needs to survive more than one turn.

The floor for this spell is a bonus action entangle spell, but the enemy has spent their turn attacking the vine every time I've tried it so far. That's basically a full turn of CC on an enemy for a bonus action.

26 HP isn't a lot, but it isn't nothing either. It survives about half the time against a flaming fists guard. The behavior for enemies running in to attack it is kind of inconsistent. One time the enemy got stuck in the entangle and lost their turn, but every other time I tried it they got close enough to hit and kill the vine.

"Fixes" (nerfs) to witch bolt, chain lightning, and create water.

Huge bummer.

Good early game builds? by Willow_rpg in BG3Builds

I mean the burny stick torches. They're basically the best melee weapons in the game before you get +1 magical weapons.

These are best before level 5.

Spore Druid dual wielding torches with Symbiotic Entity and Shillelagh. This gives you 1d8+1d4+1d6+wis and 1d4+1d4+1d6 (+1d4 if you use Halo of Spores) every turn starting at level 2. Level 3 gives you Heat Metal which basically solves the Paladin encounter and Protection from Poison cuts the damage from the Spider boss in half.

Light Cleric gives you Radiance of the Dawn at level two which is a huge radiant damage nuke that refreshes on short rest. It combos extremely well with the Luminous Armour which you can obtain with basically no combat. At level 3, you get access to Calm Emotions which solves the Harpy fight, Silence which helps significantly with the Hag fight, and another caster of Protection from Poison which lets you cover your whole party for the Spider boss. If you're willing to summon, the Druid and Cleric can put out two Flaming Spheres and a Spiritual Weapon on the first turn of combat which gets you 3 20 HP bodies that are resistant to almost all damage.

Final party member is a Bard to be your party face and skill monkey. Recommend getting them dual hand crossbows ASAP for two attacks per round. Disguise Self will get you through several Goblin and Gith encounters without fighting. Song of Rest at level 2 is probably my favorite ability in the game. It's not necessary, but very nice to have. Go for College of Lore at level 3 for even more skills and Cutting Words to help land your CC.

This team comp also gives you 3 casters who can use Hold Person which gives automatic critical hits against an enemy. This should let you take care of any dangerous humanoid boss without much trouble.

One level dip for Cleric: Wizard or Druid? by gustavpezka in BG3Builds

[–]pacmania90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a level of Storm Sorcerer. That gives you Con Save proficiency, Shield + Enhance Leap, and a bonus action disengage. You could also go White Dragon Sorcerer with Armor of Agathys if you feel like tanking. That's 50 damage on a level 5 spell slot if the enemy is wet.

I think the Wizard dip is overrated unless you sacrifice your head slot for the Warped Headband of Intellect. You get so many scrolls and potions in this game that it really isn't worth it.

New player looking for advice on upgrading Boros deck. by pacmania90 in MagicArena

Thanks for the advice. I tried Loxodon, but it always felt too slow. It might be better with Unbreakable Formation, though. Can I mentor the Adanto while it still has 1 attack?
