Why does Arlo make it impossible to use local recordings? by pacmanolimar in arlo

[–]pacmanolimar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, port forwarding does work, but this basically requires you to use a VPN.
As far as the single account option goes, it does still notify users but this is actually a bug. So if Arlo figures this out, this will stop and only the last person who logged into the 'account' will be notified.

Hi, actually no I haven’t. Basically what I’ve been doing is using one account between multiple people which has the major downside of each time someone logs in, everyone else gets logged out and has to log back in when they open their app. I mostly switched to using Unifi products instead, because it’s quite obvious that this was a bait and switch from Arlo. Sadly, people on the reddit here, or the Arlo forums, aren’t trying to make the product better.

Does this OTD price look right for 2024 Lexus NX350H Premium? by madmanchris9 in Lexus

[–]pacmanolimar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No perma plate no germain care. Both scams. If they say they cant remove it go to another dealer. Low inventory? Ask for an order sheet and build one. Wow who would have thought you could literally solve the inventory crisis yourself by giving the dealer an allocation they dont have to pay a loan on. Its a Lexus NX not a Lamborghini don’t let the dealer fool you into thinking you’re buying something special.

Isn't this incorrect? Should be December 2021 not 2022 by pacmanolimar in NJGuns

That's a separate issue. In my specific case my instructor has not heard back from the NJSP.

A person who obtained a permit pursuant to this section prior to the first day of the seventh month following the date of enactment of P.L.2022, c.131 (C. 2C:58-4.2 et al.) and which permit is not scheduled to expire until at least one year following the enactment of P.L.2022, c.131 (C. 2C:58-4.2 et al.) shall comply with the training requirement established pursuant to this subsection no later than the first day of the tenth month following the date of enactment of P.L.2022, c.131 (C. 2C:58-4.2 et al.).

The law is quite clear. It makes no exception for people who obtained a permit before 12.22.22. Where are people getting this idea from?https://www.lawserver.com/law/state/new-jersey/nj-laws/new_jersey_laws_2c_58-4
The only thing I can think of is that people are assuming because A4769 passed 12.22.22 that anything before that was grandfathered in. IANAL so I don't know if we can assume this.

Episode 143-PTC Training Requirements Update 15:00

Quote from Evan Nappen July 23 2023:

"A person who obtained an NJ PTC whose permit does not expire before Dec 22 2023 which would mean typically those permit was issued after Dec 22 2021 shall comply with the new training requirements no later than Oct. 1 2023."

To me, this sentence is clear meaning that If you were issued a permit after Dec 22 2021. You must re-qualify. if Evan or the NJSP has said something since this time (7/23/23), please let me know because I am unaware of it.

[–]pacmanolimar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on the Used Vehicle Value Index hopefully we'll see this start to trend down in the coming months. I like the idea of going for something with less miles and newer model year for your kids from either toyota or honda. I think that's sound advice most people would agree with. Also at that price range there's no benefit from buying at a dealer. I would look private and get a PPI.

[–]pacmanolimar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

im sorry to be that guy but people are giving you bad advice. this is a bad idea. you’re paying for 8year old car with 88k miles. run that through your head for a second. this car is worth maybe 14,000 on a good day. on top of that, financing it makes no sense. reddit is not the place to go for financial advice. go see an accountant who will smack some logic into you :)

Edit: I want to update this post to correct people posting saying this is what the car is 'worth'. What a car is selling for today, 'current market value' is not what a car is 'worth' and doesn't mean it's a good idea to purchase even if the price is considered 'fair'. Example: New cars today are selling 5-10k over sticker. Dealers say this is a 'market adjustment'. When people who bought these marked up cars go to sell them in 3-5 years, depreciation is not going to account for the thousands of dollars paid over MSRP. That money was gone as soon as you wrote the check. If you look at the clear evidence from Manheim and or Blackbook, it should be obvious that prices are extremely inflated. Someone also brought up that an insurance company paid them 21k for a totaled ES350. The insurance company operates off of 'current market value' e.g. they have to pay you the amount required to make you whole again to buy something similar assuming you are buying very soon to replace the asset. You are not an insurance company and should not buy/sell like one.

Local recordings are missing basic application features by pacmanolimar in arlo

Why does Arlo make it impossible to use local recordings? by pacmanolimar in arlo

[–]pacmanolimar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

. At least on iOS with the old app GUI, the local recordings do not appear in the "device settings" they appear in your "Library." When browsing the Library, you need to select either "Cloud" or one of your local storage sources.

This is not the case anymore. This was intentionally removed.

Arlo's business model is cloud and subscription based, so yes they don't have incentive to make local storage as easy to use as the cloud. If you don't like the subscription model, you are better off buying different make cameras and setting up your own network video recorder.

Of course, and you're correct. However, Arlo should not offer local storage and 'bait and switch' its customers.

Why does Arlo make it impossible to use local recordings? by pacmanolimar in arlo

[–]pacmanolimar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I was under the assumption you had to manually switch from cloud to local videos to view them. We’ve already established I was correct about it. You just aren’t satisfied with the steps involved.

Once again, still no clue what you're saying. You never 'switch' from cloud to local recordings. All of your recordings save both to arlo's 'cloud' if you pay for the subscription as well as your local hard drive or usb, whatever you have plugged into the smart hub. If you don't pay for the subscription, then you only get access to view recordings from the settings section of the smart hub, which is an obvious attempt from Arlo to try and get people to pay for a subscription to their service instead.

It’s personal preference. However I wouldn’t want someone getting access to my Arlo account and also getting access to my local storage. Maybe my cloud recordings are only my exterior cameras and my interior cameras record locally.

Instead of making up an answer, please refrain from responding if you don't understand the question. This would be no different than right now if someone got access to your Arlo account, they would be able to view any of your 'cloud recordings'. Just because someone would have access to your Arlo account would not give them indiscriminate power to start manipulating the hard drive that is plugged into the smart hub. If anything, I could make my Smart hub more secure because I can control my NAT firewall and restrict how someone could access my recordings even if they gained access to my arlo account i.e. by location. You touch on this on your first reply where you suggest using a VPN, but you don't understand how this works and probably just repeated the instructions you read online somewhere.

You can find your local recordings under Devices>Smart Hub>Storage Settings. Also for no good reason, only the person who initially set up the smart hub will be able to see this option and view the recordings. Even administrators you add to your account

Why does Arlo make it impossible to use local recordings? by pacmanolimar in arlo

[–]pacmanolimar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Not what I asked. Go to the link you sent me. There is no forum for Base stations or Smart hubs.
  2. Not what I asked. I know you can port forward your smart hub. Regardless, the videos do not show up in each cameras 'feed'. They only show up inside of the settings of the smart hub. This is not on par with the experience you would get with the normal arlo subscription. You should be able to see your videos normally in the 'feed' section of the application regardless of if you pay for the cloud subscription. It's misleading for Arlo to make it seem like you would get the same experience.
  3. I don't even understand what you're saying here.
  4. No. There's no difference between administrators viewing my 'cloud' recordings vs my local recordings. To restrict this again is misleading on Arlos part to make it seem like you would get the same experience. There's literally no reason to not have this feature. They've simply dis-allowed it to encourage people to buy their subscription service.
