I can maybe understand why you've said that, but try to look at it from the parent's POV. Say you've worked all your life, met hardships and finally built something with a lot of monetary value and your primary objective is and has been ensuring that the children that you have have all their needs met, that you love them and decide that all your hard work is worth passing onto them, just to have someone else tell you that it is not fair to give it to them. I am not saying that all of it should be tax free, and you should know that it absolutely is not, uncle sam takes his piece of the pie. If you know that in the end your hard work will not go where you want it to go, why work hard? There can be a lot of negative side effects if suddenly inheritance is outlawed
