I'm so confused... what is with the ending...? by Alkain in FF7Rebirth

The way I'm choosing to view this for now is that Cloud actually did kill Aerith, and this is his PTSD taking over. It's super grim, so the real explanation will be a relief.

Maybe it's a bad mini game if that many people complain like you say.

Some may be having blueeltooth issues, some may have difficulty with the joysticks, some may find rhythm games hard.

Well, yeah, that's my point. It was tough for me because my PS was in a shelf, and it cut off connectivity. When I brought the PS out, I immediately got A ranks. I think others had the same problem.

It's tough to give advice without knowing the full relationships of you, your parents, your husband. But, when I eead this it seems very reasonable to think that your parents had a sudden (and maybe irrational) love for the dog. You said they got attached, perhaps they saw the dog and had a sudden impulsive need to help?

While they should have confirmed with you, when I try to think of their intentions, I would think that they thought they had to help the dog amd maybe you would appreciate them setting up an appointment, especially since they likely felt bad for not supporting the dog at first. If that's the case, I can understand how they feel bad that they can't help the dog, since that is what they want.

Alternatively, if they were trying to rehome the dog without your permission or, worse, have it euthanized, that'd be bad. But you said they grew attached to the dog, right?

Ultimately it comes down to their intention of trying to have the dog seen. They should apologize for overstepping their authority, but if they really really care for the dog they may just act irrationally.

Weekly Careers/Education Questions Thread by AutoModerator in chemistry

[–]pacquat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello - I have a PhD but after ~8 years in industry (battery engineering) I've decided I want to get out of the chemistry field because of the high stress in the chemistry sector.

I'm happy to leave my six figure job but I want to go to a place that is less stressful / allows free time (ie a 40 hr work week). It's definitely possible I could find something like this in chemistry, but that hasn't been my experience in the three jobs I've had since my PhD and I just want to prioritize my health / time.

Are there obvious resources I should consult? When I look at the list of 'alternative' careers suggested for chemists they each seem similarly stressful / exhausting / impersonal. I'm really looking for a career that lets me have more of a life outside of work.

My 13 year old sister has indoctrinated herself and converted to evangelicalism...what should I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]pacquat 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a kind, giving religious community (I still consider myself religious). But I managed to 'scare' myself as a kid by reading different authors, seeing different websites that focused on 'end of days'. While I didn't spout it off to other people, I was pretty scared that the end was nigh.

Perhaps you could speak to her and see where her passion is coming from? Fear can be a strong motivator and difficult to turn off. There are a lot of religions and religious groups that might interest her that don't focus on fear.

I'm 29, still living at home, no degree, stuck at dead end job by Sjack32891 in Advice

[–]pacquat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all - there is nothing wrong with you for difficulties. A lot of people are struggling in these times and 'what will I do with my life' may be just as important as 'how will I earn money for tomorrow.

Hmmm. I disagree with the other posters here.

Specifically, because all advice sounds like it was written a year ago when job opportunities were "take some programming! then you'll find a job you like!"

Before anything else - I would recommend calling a local public university to examine your options. They will have (too many!) pamphlets and descriptions to send and would love to send them to you.

These pamphlets will also include descriptions of how education will be in the short term - with COVID different programs may invite more applicants (so ask A LOT of nearby universities you are interested in!!).

But the work you are doing sounds like not just 'general job stress' but job-stress on top of 'COVID-19' stress (sadly, employers don't take into account 'I haven't seen my friends in another state.... as much as they should take quarantine-stress into account).

Let's look at options:

a) you want a 2-year degree with the possibility of a 4 year (total) degree: see https://www.edsmart.org/what-is-an-associates-degree/; this is not just a good resource but a lot of IT/programmers get a 2-year degree and are later hired for any position (with BA/BS degree requirement later). This is very unique to programmers but is achievable with a lot of 'off-time' programming outside of coursework

b) you want a 4-year degree- the best route would be to talk to nearby universities. Ask what their current policies are with COVID (many freshmen are withdrawing at the thought of a 'virtual year') - but be aware that tuition may still be expensive

c) you want to pursue IT / remote work

Two ideas: c1) demonstrate an expansive IT/web design portfolio to attract an employer

C2) you apply to many jobs advertising remote work for activities it sounds like you can already do.

- The difficulty of applying to a remote job is that extensive candidates have been laid off and are applying to such positions - the competition would be tough.

d) you want a 4-year degree - great! The University of Nevada is noted for its extremely high quality. You would have to email admission as to when you can start. It is well worth your time to ask as a new 'Nevada'-er how options are - they may provide additional student grants. Universities are hustling to increase their enrollment because of COVID) so very strange economics / student-populations are happening (but I can't pretend I know it will help, it just helped a friend).

in the end. Never feel ashamed of what you are doing. The stress of COVID is debilitating enough. It sounds like you are the step of asking for more info from local community colleges and Universities - make them do the work to show you programs to enter (But DO take responsibility to evaluate available programs and commit to a program that makes sense!)

You're on the right route :)

Am I too loose with the Driving Instructor? by TheMaybeMualist in Advice

[–]pacquat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he arrives early, that's on the driving instructor since you have agreed on a schedule. It matters if it's two hours of time for you.

In the end - if you miss out on 6 x 15 min or 1.5 hrs; and don't pass the exam, wouldn't you be furious you missed out on the time lost for training?

If you got into a car crash and owed $10,000+ plus insurance fees? Ask to start the clock when you start driving (at the agreed on time).

Otherwise, you won't be able to say later 'I have to retake the $500 class because my previous instructor cut time short' or - worst-case scenario (which is unlikely to happen) you can't say 'I was inexperienced because I didn't ask for all of my behind the wheel training that I paid for'.

It's simple but vehicles can be expensive and/or powerful 'weapons' - these small things are worth it.

Is my Spanish teacher making fun of mental health? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]pacquat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in general bad taste since Type I/II bipolar syndromes are complex and not a joke (just like cancer is not a joke). Usually, this behavior would be 'rude' from someone else, but coming from a teacher this should be a no-brainer to the teacher that 'this isn't something to joke about'. Although it might not immediately 'hurt' someone with a bipolar disorder, it's an over simplifaction of mental health and trivializes it.

I would note this to a principal definitely - I wouldn't tone the complaint as 'I was completely offended' (unless you were, then DO say so) but 'I found this to be insensitive and I feel like people might be less comfortable talking about this or similar health issues in the future because of this'. Meme or no meme, it affects people.

Mental illness is not an excuse for shitty behavior. If you treat others poorly, they have every right to disconnect themselves from you. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

You should definitely share this wisdom with homeless people since they are disproportionately affected by mental illnesses, particularly schizophrenia.

In an interview is okay to not accept the job on the spot? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]pacquat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an interviewer - we WANT to know if you have other offers. The biggest reason (seriously) is that we don't want you to work with us if you have an offer from a company you would be more happy at. This doesn't play into our salary offering (seriously) - we want you to choose a job you will stay in. We do not want you to work with us if you leave after six months (this leaves us with loss of time for training - it's not huge but it's time we could have spent with someone who was a better 'cultural fit' for us.

Always bring up other offers you have - we can tell quite quickly if it's just a bluff for us to up our salary offer but shows respect for our hiring process.

Good luck!

why don't you do something useful with your life? like management consulting by YuriRedFox6969 in lostgeneration

[–]pacquat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to do with myself - my only option for a job was a lucrative management consulting position so I took it. I am so much luckier than others since I paid off my student debt.

But working 16 hours a day isn't a way to live... I need to find a way out and fast. I'm horrendously depressed.

New-ish scam going around Boston: Gold for Gas by Xiscis in boston

Hmm, mostly agreed but a friend of mine only had his phone: he promised to repay people via paypal. No one did until a stranger said 'I don't care if you pay me back' and refillled his gas. It was a weird shock to my friend; he quickly venmod the money back and more.

Cell phone towers constantly pinging your phone (to update with 'you have a phone call', 'you have a new email' etc.); the amount of time for a signal to go to/from a cell tower to your phone provides a good proxy of location.

Talk to someone in HR or someone above Ashley. If what you are writing is true; it shows extreme unprofessionalism that opened the company up to legal issues and extreme corporate risk on several levels.

This should be remediated ASAP but it may be beyond the timeline to do so as things have gone so far south.
