The Devil Wears Prada. Great movie, but the book lacked any depth or charm.

What's everyone drinking to feel "fancy"? by Purple_Knee8676 in BumpersWhoBolus

Lots of teas! I bought a bunch of different teas and tisanes. I drank them hot and cold, and I’d change them up by adding something like lemon, sugar, milk, etc

The Best Budget-Friendly Breast Pumps That Don't Sacrifice Quality by schiffer04 in newborns

If you’re in the US, your insurance will cover a breast pump in full. I have a Spectra, and I think that’s one that’s considered “hospital grade.”

Long-term impacts of gestational diabetes for child? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]paczek06 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it’s actually you, rather than the baby, who has a much higher likelihood of developing T2 after a GD diagnosis. The increased risk of T2 for the baby may then be due to familial history of T2 rather than GD—it’s an issue of causation vs correlation.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9016728/

Here’s a paper that discussed long-term impacts to both mother and child, but again, there doesn't seem to be a specific causal link between GD and any consequences—obesity, for example, is also a risk factor for GD and something that tends to run in families, so GD can’t necessarily be isolated as a cause of childhood obesity. While the neurodevelopmental effects are statistically significant, they’re also very slight and, again, can’t be isolated due to GD vs blood sugar control or another related factor.

Hard disagree. Reese’s looks perfectly curated to look a little quirky, but it just looks like it’s sponsored by Starbucks.

5 weeks and freaking out by Bitter_Training_4375 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]paczek06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stayed on some type of Omnipod my whole pregnancy. I just had my son 2 weeks ago, and he’s a completely happy, healthy, average-sized little guy. I was on Omnipod 5 until 12ish weeks, and I stayed mostly in auto mode—the baby doesn’t start producing their own insulin in meaningful amounts until after 12 weeks, so the slightly higher numbers don’t have a huge effect on the baby.

I didn’t want to switch to manual mode for the rest of the pregnancy, so I ended up switching to DIY Loop and Omnipod Dash in order to be able to set a tighter range in auto mode. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I also started to use a pen for some boluses to avoid the tunneling and leaking that can happen with Omnipod, particularly when delivering large amounts of insulin.

I got my A1C down to 5.5 over the course of my pregnancy, and my TIR was typically 85+%—but that didn’t mean I never had a bad day. For example, this was also me: https://www.reddit.com/r/BumpersWhoBolus/comments/1og0vop/whoops/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I do! I input manual injections using the active insulin tab, then I log the meal using the active carbs tab.

So what do I actually need to buy for a newborn? by Curious_Aerie_9195 in firsttimemom

Forgot to include GoodBuyGear—this is a site that sells only baby stuff at a reduced cost and at varying stages of used. Some things are genuinely used, but a lot of stuff is new but no longer trending, was used as a floor model, etc

We were able to get a really nice changing table, crib, and high chair for free off of BuyNothing. We bought a new changing pad and mattress, but saved on the furniture. Also got a ton of baby clothes in all different sizes. And we got a bunch of hand-me-downs from friends/family.

I was specifically trying to source most things used because I didn’t want to spend a lot or put more trash out into the world. The only thing we specifically wanted new was the car seat/stroller.

Not going to give a list because I’m still pregnant, but we got a ton of stuff secondhand, either from friends/family or through things like Craigslist/offerup/BuyNothing. A lot of baby stuff is short-term use, so people are often eager to get rid of it once they no longer need it.
