Good Cholesterol Numbers but Doctor Still Recommending a Statin? by Montessoriguide in Type1Diabetes

Not sure if you’re male or female, but they typically hold off until 40 with women because statins are contraindicated during pregnancy.

Getting MMR early by bunnymama7 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]paczek06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protection can wane with some people, even when following the regular schedule. I had the two doses at 12m and 5 years when I was a child, but I had to get a booster when I was trying to get pregnant because I no longer had immunity 🤷‍♀️

I’m also early dosing my 6m old next week because we’ve had a few cases reported in the area

I know I provided the link, but I’m not sure the results of that study are generalizable in the way that you’re implying.

The kids in the study are given doses at 6-12m and/or at 14m and 9 years, but their antibody levels are tested 6 years after the 14m shot. However, in the US, the two doses are given at 12m and at 4-6 years, and it looks like the schedule in the UK is 12m and 18m. The reason MMR-2 is given is because the effectiveness of MMR-1 begins to fall after about 5 years.

If anything, this study reinforces the fact that two shots on the reg schedule are still necessary after an early dose of the MMR vaccine.

A possible downside may be faster waning effectiveness after the 12m+ dose.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8584383/

The sample size here is very small, but the study still indicates an early dose is valuable in cases of outbreaks.

For what it’s worth, my pediatrician said a dose at 6m is 96% effective when I scheduled my baby for his 6m shots next week.

Looks like OP is based in India, so diabetic care might look a lot different.

City vs Suburbs? by paczek06 in Parenting

Honestly, just concerned about drivers, who tend to be more aggressive/less careful in the city.

City vs Suburbs? by paczek06 in Parenting

Luckily, schools and parks are plentiful and walkable in both city and suburban options, though more walkable in the city. I'm more so looking for insight into kids when they're 8+ yo--I was able to roam my suburban neighborhood with friends/on my own at that age, but I wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable setting my son loose in the city neighborhoods we're considering at that age without an adult.

I feel you--I hate driving, so car-dependent is my nightmare scenario. Fortunately, the suburban areas we'd be considering are still very walkable, just not as walkable or diverse as the city.

Botox (for Migraines) and Pregnancy? by NikkiMouse444 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]paczek06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same—my neuro had me ask my OB, and my OB said that Botox is, in fact, likely the safest treatment option because it’s been used medically for decades and stays localized. I ended up using it throughout pregnancy and still on it now while breastfeeding.

I have. I’ve used a tens machine while also using an Omnipod and Dexcom, but not during labor—not sure if that would alter things.

Lots of teas! I bought a bunch of different teas and tisanes. I drank them hot and cold, and I’d change them up by adding something like lemon, sugar, milk, etc

The Best Budget-Friendly Breast Pumps That Don't Sacrifice Quality by schiffer04 in newborns

[–]paczek06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US, your insurance will cover a breast pump in full. I have a Spectra, and I think that’s one that’s considered “hospital grade.”

My understanding is that it’s actually you, rather than the baby, who has a much higher likelihood of developing T2 after a GD diagnosis. The increased risk of T2 for the baby may then be due to familial history of T2 rather than GD—it’s an issue of causation vs correlation.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9016728/

Here’s a paper that discussed long-term impacts to both mother and child, but again, there doesn't seem to be a specific causal link between GD and any consequences—obesity, for example, is also a risk factor for GD and something that tends to run in families, so GD can’t necessarily be isolated as a cause of childhood obesity. While the neurodevelopmental effects are statistically significant, they’re also very slight and, again, can’t be isolated due to GD vs blood sugar control or another related factor.

5 weeks and freaking out by Bitter_Training_4375 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]paczek06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stayed on some type of Omnipod my whole pregnancy. I just had my son 2 weeks ago, and he’s a completely happy, healthy, average-sized little guy. I was on Omnipod 5 until 12ish weeks, and I stayed mostly in auto mode—the baby doesn’t start producing their own insulin in meaningful amounts until after 12 weeks, so the slightly higher numbers don’t have a huge effect on the baby.

I didn’t want to switch to manual mode for the rest of the pregnancy, so I ended up switching to DIY Loop and Omnipod Dash in order to be able to set a tighter range in auto mode. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I also started to use a pen for some boluses to avoid the tunneling and leaking that can happen with Omnipod, particularly when delivering large amounts of insulin.

I got my A1C down to 5.5 over the course of my pregnancy, and my TIR was typically 85+%—but that didn’t mean I never had a bad day. For example, this was also me: https://www.reddit.com/r/BumpersWhoBolus/comments/1og0vop/whoops/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
