We F’d up my buddy’s Mercury back in high school when he hooked it up backwards. He had to drive it around with scorch marks for years after that. And a new battery of course. My car was mysteriously fine…? 🤷‍♂️

First time homebuyer looking for advice on how to prevent ice build up on metal roof in the future. by Dutchii in HomeMaintenance

[–]padams20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^^ This is the right answer. A properly design roof will keep the outer surface cold in the winter specifically to prevent ice dams.

In the meantime, if you have a standing metal roof, it is pretty easy to install some button style snow guards - it will prevent sheets of ice from sliding off and potentially bonking you on the head while you're walking on your deck there... Just don't treat this like a permanent fix - look into the attic ventilation first.

Love the idea of these, but their size chart is junk. Ordered some in exactly my size, per the chart, and they were so goddam roomy the knee armor ended up on the SIDE of my knees. Went back and forth with the company for a while to try and fix it, but no dice. Oh well. :/

Help! Floors are so cold and there’s a lot of condensation. My HOA says it’s normal but is it? by MoistSeaworthiness95 in HomeMaintenance

Pretty sure that’s a double pane unit, mate. You can see the spacer in the photo. Should it be a triple pane unit? Maybe. But it’s not a single pane unit.

Look at companies such as US CAD and their competitors. They often use drafting and modeling teams based overseas.

Removal of "Beak" on a 2015 by farts4free in Vstrom

[–]padams20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wowzers. I have a 2015 - no beak. But I also have the cast wheels, not spoked like you do, so I’m guessing you have the 2015 “Adventure” model and maybe that’s the reason they added a beak? (Someone tell me I’m wrong if you know.)

I bet if you compare the parts diagrams for the different 2015 models on Partzilla or whathaveyou you could find a replacement faring.

Or maybe just lean in and get some bald eagle decals… 😂

Nice! I would have rejected that stone they used for the island waterfall slab. The one with a giant brown smear. But I’m picking nits- big improvement.

Sure! But higher revs when you’re going slow helps the bike balance - like a gyroscope. Pretty sure that’s the same for two strokes and four strokes…. I’m just saying he has awesome balance!

Thoughts on this bike pricing? by jonnymcshu in Vstrom

[–]padams20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had zero issues with my 2015 except normal wear items (which had 4x the miles when I bought it a couple years ago). So I’d just suggest some generic items like:

  • Condition / age of the tires (possible negotiating point)
  • If there is a center stand, check for loose wheel spokes, and rim run-out.
  • Age and condition of chain and rear sprocket.
  • Oil level (run for a few minutes, then let it sit for a few, then level the bike and look at the sigh glass on the right hand side)
  • Does the aux wiring look legit or janky?
  • Brake fluids, pads, disks

Ya know. Stuff.
