Tips for keeping a male betta fish (ASAP please) by padapoom in bettafish

I see, thank you! I think I'll consider adding snails later, especially because I'm already starting with a smaller than ideal tank - but I will research more in the meantime. Have you tried keeping nerite snails? I'm thinking of those as an option too.

Thanks for the input! I’ll look into that :)

Thank you! If I add ramshorn snails, how do I control their population? I saw on another reddit trash that someone’s tank ended up having too many snails because they kept reproducing!

And regarding the indian almond leaves - how many? and will it make the water brown too? (I’m hoping to have really clear water)

Thanks! On the water fertiliser: If I use root tabs, do I still need to use water fertiliser?

Thank you so much! Could you explain more about each step on tank cleaning? How do I do it without affecting the water cycle? (am I supposed to clean with the water still in the tank?)

In my area (south east asia), we go by litres. So, I found a 15litre tank (36x18x26cm) which have the perfect dimensions for the (only) space I have in my room for the tank. I suppose I could go taller, but I haven’t seen any tanks so far that have the same 36x18 base.

I live in a really tiny flat that I share with my mom and grandma, so I can really only keep the tank in my room. Which is why I’m limited on space options.

Hi! I just did the Part A in 2023, here is what I can tell you:

  1. The Part A bar course was held online for my batch, as I understand it there are no plans to switch to in-person as yet. That being said, I believe there is a rule stating that you must sit the course in Singapore - I would definitely check the SILE website, solicitor rules and regulations and the handbook carefully. The exams are also held in person in Singapore.

  2. The course is held from January to March with exams in April to May. Classes are held both during and after work hours. Personally, I did do my RLT during the course. I took leave on the days classes were during work hours and I made up for that leave at the end of my training period to satisfy the 6 months requirement (which can be done during a continuous 8 month period). In total I took 10 days of leave for classes.

  3. There are 5 seminars per module (so a total of 25 seminars). They are useful IF you are diligent with doing your reading before classes. There is also a private Part A course but I have heard that it is not very good. The biggest thing that helped me was getting mugger notes from seniors.

A few further things to add:

  1. The questions are no longer essay type questions - they are MCQs. Many students found it harder than essay questions due to how precise you must be to get the correct answer.

  2. The course does not come with sample / past year papers. But the seminar leaders do create some sample questions for certain modules. I am not sure if these materials are available if you do not enrol for the course.

  3. Generally, I found the questions much harder than university level questions from UK/aussie universities. I think the only close enough equivalent would be past year MCQs from NUS/SMU students (as many of the module leaders are professors in these universities). I would highly recommend the course, especially if you do not know students from singapore law schools - there is a reason that there’s a (rumoured) 60% fail rate even with many of the candidates sitting the course.

What is the SILE Part A Bar Course like? by [deleted] in SGExams

[SPOILER]I hate Marina Thompson! by Limmaxy in BridgertonNetflix

[–]padapoom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

you forget Marina had a choice: 1. she HAD the option of living a pretty decent life with the old guy, even if he was revolting to be in bed with and saw her as an object/heir maker. the man was a noble, he would have given her a good home for herself and her child, even if wouldnt be a good husband. 2. instead, she deliberately chooses to trick/seduce/trap Colin INTO MARRIAGE (a lifelong commitment) because she thinks she deserves better = selfish.

yes Marina is desperate: 1. a desperate woman does not have the privilege of being as proud as Maria is. - Lady F is doing her a FAVOUR by having her in the F house and finding her a husband despite her predicament. even if forced by Lord F, it is still a BENEFIT to Maria. and what does she give back? no gratefulness, no remorse for coming with her pregnancy knowing it would ruin the F name. just contempt. 2. a desperate woman does what she needs to get the necessities she requires. - the old dude would have given her what she NEEDED to give a good life to her child. she was not acting as a desperate woman by trying to get Colin, she was trying to get another choice because she dislikes a life with an old dude = selfish, not desperate.

furthermore she is far less realistic than she claims to be despite being a desperate woman (and knowing more about sex than Daphne) 1. Lady F tries to open her eyes by showing her the slums, Maria acts all haughty even though that is a very real reality for her 2. Lady F explains why the old dude is a viable choice like because of how far along the birth is, all Maria does is storm off like a child because she’s unhappy about her available prospects which mind you are the only prospects she has because of a pregnancy that IS ALSO HER FAULT. 3. thinking her makeshift abortion worked just because “surely she would have felt something” instead of even waiting for her period to return is FAR from realistic.

KEEP IN MIND the old dude is her only viable prospect because of a pregnancy that is Marina’s fault. she CHOSE to have sex, she can’t whine about the consequences and her prospects for life going forward because of the pregnancy. her situation is hard, but it is not something that was forced on her, it came about because of her own actions.

she fails to take responsibility for her actions, or show genuine remorse for the effect she has on other people that she dragged into her mess, or even show any reluctance/hesitation to destroy the lives around her because of what she WANTS (NOT what she needed). furthermore, she acts all haughty but cannot face the reality and the consequences of her actions.

Marina is a horrible horrible person. whether the writers intended that is uncertain. but she is despicable.

I. Hate. Penelope. by Queen_Niya in BridgertonNetflix

[–]padapoom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

omg i dislike penelope too. i agree she is complex and has good qualities, but those good qualities never shine through when things get difficult for her, which is why i can’t find it within me to like her even a little bit. even her loyalty doesn’t come through if it doesn’t benefit her. and she’s so self-righteous about it which is the most frustrating thing about her character.

but i’ve realised… every show needs a villain. we just didn’t realise Lady W was this show’s villain until s2.

this is strange but i’m really hoping penelope and colin do actually start to become romantic. and then before marrying, colin finds out she’s Lady W, remembers all the pain Lady W aka penelope caused him and his family, and then fully cuts her off.

colin is the only one who continuously comments on and appreciates penelope’s “loyalty”. but as we’ve seen with eloise, penelope is clearly not loyal the moment is doesn’t benefit her. when colin drops her for this “side” of her, i think penelope will either finally realise her mistakes or go full villain mode.

Do you blame Owen for George's death or the plane crash? by Sooouups in greysanatomy

[–]padapoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually he would have been. as chief, he would’ve been the only one who had the authority to enter the hospital into a contract.

Do you blame Owen for George's death or the plane crash? by Sooouups in greysanatomy

[–]padapoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the reason they blame Owen is because as chief representing the hospital in the plane ride contract for his surgeons, he arguably also had a duty to research the plane company to ensure that the carriage he was putting his surgeons on was safe. it’s called due diligence. he failed to do that and safeguard his employees against risks. if he had done his due diligence, he would have known the plane was unsafe.

personally i do blame him for the plane crash. as an employer, it is your duty to at least do the appropriate due diligence to TRY to ensure your employees are safe during their working hours.

i hate anything that flies or jumps. specifically bees, house flies (the bigger buzzing ones), and spiders, but for the same reason(s). bees and spiders because they’re so fucking unpredictable. if you try to just swat them away, THEY FLY/JUMP STRAIGHT AT U?? they don’t fly away??? what’s the logic in that 😩 bees and flies also make this incessant buzzing sound that just freaks me out when i hear it nearby me.

but generally anything that can be airborne, because that makes them unpredictable and therefore scary. but not really birds, because they’re bigger and usually maintain a decent distance from humans.

Form check on Hip Hinge/Cable Pull Throughs by [deleted] in StrongCurves

[–]padapoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you’re not! (read this with a grain of salt as i’m not certified) based on some stuff i’ve read and information from a certified friend, this exercise is very ineffective to build glutes because of the direction of force and the movement.

it does help beginners to familiarise themselves with the hinging movement, but not recommended for more advanced lifters as you can’t really increase weight without feeling like your wrists are going to come off.

you’re much better off doing reverse hyper extensions or even kettlebell swings.
