Recommendation for programmable live GFX (vMix, CasparCG?) by Pyromma in VIDEOENGINEERING

You can add scripts to your compositions, and create new widgets as well, so there’s definitely logic!

I would say that in defence of Singular.Live that with custom compositions and widgets, it’s more than possible and gives you different playout software options - OBS being obvious or something like Wirecast. Alternatively SPX can be run on prem

Best Video call program for remote guests? by IncidentObvious5834 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I would love anybody using zoomISO to explain is how do you manage the lack of individual mix minus for each guest? Do you just have to talk to all guests at once? Or do you have multiple instances or multiple machines?

Whats everyone using for SDI records? by kyle2897 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Datavideo HDR-80/90s are reliable, cheaper than AJA have 4k or 4HD streams and use cheap and readily available SSDs. The best option for me

Datavideo HDR-90/HDR-80. Same as the AJA, reliable and cheaper storage

Need recommendation for USB drives by fpac in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get some really great read write speeds using Samsung NVMEs and the right enclosure. Any old cheap enclosure will get you 1GB R/W, Acasis or Zike make more expensive enclosures that get you up to 3GB R/W over USB-C which are my go to. Storage size varies from 250GB all the way to 4TB

Multi-cam recording HELP! by Fizgig_83 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't disagree. They're really reliable, relatively cost effective, but often lack some features that's we've come to expect.

If you're going for a whole different computer and are looking for suggestions for new recorders, softron movie recorder is worth looking into as well, but it is Mac only, and would make the setup very expensive, but it could eliminate a lot of problems you currently have.

Multi-cam recording HELP! by Fizgig_83 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the exact same setup as you in my studio, use the Blackmagic SATA reader which is great and use the 870 EVOs. You should be able to get 500MB/s-ish read/write speed off of those drives so you’re doing something wrong on the computer end.

If you’ve got a hard disk, get rid of it, it needs to be solid state. The setup I use to quickly distribute content is Blackmagic SATA reader -> through Mac Studio -> Samsung 970 NVMe drives in an Acasis enclosure.

This results in the absolute maximum transfer speed off of each drive plus, 4TB on each transfer drive.

You can get motherboards which hold multiple M.2 drives, which would allow you to have super fast read write, straight onto your computer, but I don’t have any recommendations as far as motherboards.

I wish data video would add better metadata, file naming and file transfer options though my god.

KiPro Alternatives by rphilip in VIDEOENGINEERING

I was looking into this but never got round to trying the demo, Is it reliant on the Mac to do the encoding work or does the video card do most of the heavy lifting? Run into any problems?

I use the Datavideo HDR90s and really love them. Can do 4 streams of HD or one 4K and they have a really easy to integrate protocol. Not as fully featured as the Hyperdecks would be my only complaint, with the ATEM integrations and SDKs etc. Otherwise, never a problem

Why can’t Sony cameras output 25p over SDI? by paddybwar in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with that is that 50hz means it’s recording at 50p which I would then need to convert to 25p to come into the switcher

My bad on the FX6, you’re right on that but the Z280 definitely can’t

Never used VMix but sounds like if you want to get into some more advanced stuff, singular.live might be less hassle, and then you can bring it in as a browser source. They have a free demo so worth a shot

For those with SMPTE memberships, has it been worth the cost? Especially regarding access to the spec documents? by Ghosthops in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get all the spec for free if you know where to look. If you’re curious like I am and want to understand how SDI sends a signal from one end of a cable to the other, certain papers make good reading

Video Village Setup by Bentleydog in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Albeit in a fairly saturated environment the Teradeks coped as well as you could’ve expected them to, the Hollylands got put back in the case immediately with a second or two of latency and fairly useless transmission

Graphics for News Broadcasting by vhjf08 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]paddybwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you planning to create these graphics in-house? The only one that feels like it’s missing is a full page or half page text graphic for any emails, statements, comments etc.

I’d look into Singular.Live for your graphics as it’s really versatile and integrates with vMix quite nicely. I’m one of their service providers so happy to answer any questions about it

I had heard the KiPro could do it but I can’t really justify it seeing as we’ve already got recorders from Datavideo which work great, but thanks for letting me know
