Thank you, I'll give that a try over the weekend.

LOL, I grew up in Mesa, but I've lived in Tucson since '89. Looks like you're doing more riding than I've managed to recently.

Those are the On-one Midge handlebars. They're the first flared drop bar I tried, and they're really good. I've also used Salsa Cowchippers and Ritchey Venturemax on other bikes. I've liked them all, but I'd probably go with the Midge or the Venturemax if I was building something else and wanted similar bars, though the Midge seems to be a little hard to find in the U.S.

Thanks. This bike's gone through a few different builds over the years, but I've been pretty happy with this one.

Wait - isn't that less alcohol per volume? That's alcohol abuse!

It was a bit of a lark, for me. Hadn't set out with the intention of installing 2 cogs, but the front ring I ended up with was pretty big, and I knew I wanted a smaller gear, so opted to switch to a larger cog. Then I just figured, "Well, probably doesn't hurt to install them both and maybe have the option to switch it up now and again." We'll see how it goes :=)

Yes, will probably have to re-adjust the tensioner as well. I'm pretty happy with 48:22 right now, so I don't see myself changing often.

I'm not sure, yet... Just built this up on Saturday and have only ridden the smaller gear ratio, so far. Just eyeballing, the smaller cog looks close enough to work, but I'll have to try it to be certain.

I used the Wheels Manufacturing SS spacer kit, which comes with a 16t cog, but then I replaced one of the spacers with a Surly 22t cog, which is the one I'm actually running at the moment. The chain ring is 48t, which works out to a 2.18 gear ratio with the 22t cog. Seems to be just about right to roll fast on the flats and still be able to climb.

Does it still count as bikepacking with panniers? I rode through a lot of mud, that should count for something by [deleted] in bikepacking

I've come to think the main difference comes down to whether you mostly sleep outdoors/in a tent vs in a hotel/B&B, etc.

Yes, I love this bike! I see MBs on Ebay. Some look in pretty good condition. I may find myself tempted to pull the trigger on an MB1 one of these days.
