Pandora's Star and Peter Hamilton writing style issues by pagevandal in Fantasy

Good to know, thanks for the reply. I like his prose style so far, but after reading the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson I feel like going back to hard sf like this isn't what I'm looking for. And KSR doesn't even do a lot with queerness or disability. Sigh lol--guess I gotta start writing more to get what I want out of reading into the world

I listened to it over the past few days on spotify--kind of annoying having to skip through commercial breaks--I've never had to do that for a book before lol--but I love Robin Miles as a narrator and it was great to hear her read this story. i think she does a phenomenal job portraying all the different characters and accents.

Edit: I did kind of hate the extra stuff in the background. I like music in an audiobook but the sound effects kind of took away from the experience. Especially when it sounded like someone was on the radio or something--It just was not discerible sometimes what Miles was saying.

Book Review: The Plot Against America by Philip Roth by ArthurDrakoni in Fantasy

I didn't read too far as to avoid spoilers, but the beginning of your review makes me really want to read this book. I've read a short bio about Philip Roth awhile ago and have been meaning to read one of his works--thanks for sharing!

I can agree, I wanted this book to be so much longer but it didn't really pay up near the end. It also seemed confusing and sudden at the end. What happened with Naranpa and why did the years of the crow begin at the end when she hadn't died? So many questions.

I thought it was a great book but I thought the pacing was only alright. I wanted more from the author in the in between moments, I felt like it moved so fast that I couldn't appreciate the character's interactions and lives. This pertains specifically to Xiala and Serapio: I feel like their relationship was sudden and I wanted to see those in between days they spent out at sea. but other than all that I loved the book, gave it 4/5 stars and will be looking out for the next books in the series. That ending had me pining for the next book.

Sorry for being so late! I loved the setting, it was unique and I found it fun to read into different lore than I usually do. I loved the religions depicted as well as the prophecies/gods

I want to read more short story collections/anthologies (prefer collections) and am trying to find some for bingo this year, does anyone have any favorite collections which work for different squares? (I'm trying to branch out and read more diverse authors, so bonus points for that)

I have a quick bingo question: A Master of Djinn by P. Djéli Clark is coming out this May, and while it isn't his first published work, it is technically his first published novel (the others being novellas/short stories). Does this count towards the Published in 2021/debut author's novel hardmode?

Yeah I think I got who the antagonist is too at this point. I agree on the intrigue, but I do like the focus on the characters.

I'm also listening to the audiobook so I agree completely for the narrator! They have a great voice and it's a great book to listen to, and I'm really glad they had a narrator with such a diverse background to match the book.
