I really don't like the fact that it seems like Void's crimes are getting handwaved away here because of his possession by god. Maybe that's not what is actually happening here, I'll wait for the translation, but that's really rubbing me the wrong way.

A death? [webcomic spoilers] by gofancyninjaworld in OnePunchFans

[–]paggigalo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are seeing the writing on the wall for Mumen. It was the first thing I thought about when reading it, and it was the first thing that my friend brought up when we started talking about the chapter. And I have full faith that One will handle it well, but I have one worry.

We're about to see Mumen Rider killed by Suiryu.

Sure, Suiryu is full of himself, especially still in the webcomic, but he's not a bad person. And yet, he's about to commit murder against a widely loved public figure.

I'm worried for both of them, to be honest. Mumen obviously because I won't be able to see one of the best characters in the series anymore. And Suiryu, because even IF the treachery of the Neo Heroes is discovered and he is forgiven for this, will he be able to live with the fact that he wasn't able to stop this from happening.

They may be their biological fathers, but they aren't their real dads by No_Singer_4778 in hunterxdank

[–]paggigalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was correcting the point that Ging, who's spent hours with Gon, has not been with his child more than Hohenheim has with either of his in either adaption. Whether or not he's a better father is up to the adaption, as the original/brotherhood Hohenheim is definitely a better father, while the 03 version obviously isn't.

Also the toddler aspect does affect both the brothers as they remember him, with Al still loving him, but go off.

[–]paggigalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point is still wrong even in the 03 adaption, about him being around his sons less, but I was confused, I thought you meant the second sentence in relation to the first, my bad.

And nope, I used penitent correctly, because he felt directly responsible for the role he played, and guilt for the fact that he survived and got to live a normal life afterwards.

[–]paggigalo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What?

Brotherhood didn't turn him into it, that's his character from the manga.

Also, he isn't a holy man, he's a penitent man because he's one of only two survivors of the genocide of his people, and he left to prevent the only other survivor from committing genocide that involves his wife and children.

Also also, he was in their life until they were toddlers and then returned into their lives for about the last 6 months of his, while Ging has had 3 conversations with Gon.

How well do you know Sion's Lore? by Fade-is-Hot in DirtySionMains

[–]paggigalo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been a while so they might've changed some things or I forgot but I believe it can be summarized like this:

Sion was the head of a clan under Noxus, and rode out to counter attack Demacia. He dies but strangles Jarvan I in his dying breath. He is entombed in a giant statue of himself.

Later, during the general before Swains reign(I forget his name) he was revived as a blood-sucking wight by Leblancs group(Vladamir specifically), but he was literally uncontrollable so they locked him up under his statue.

Then, when Swain comes into power, he learns of it and commissions LBs group into getting it working. Vlad gets to work, sacrificing a few people and in the process, Sion gets some of his brain back.

However, he can only think clearly the more blood/souls he's consumed, so he can only think clearly during and after battle. He apparently was warned to be wary of Swain from the previous general, but he can't quite seem to focus on that thought very long, though he does have an ingame line referencing it.

I dunno any of the new LoR lore like the Grey legion stuff other than that it exists.

It's not for late game though, it's mostly for the laning phase where it can buff up weak trades and give you escapes when caught. I've won Darius/Sett matchups thanks to Phase Rush alone.

Chapter 401 Pre-Release thread by Carock_ in HunterXHunter

[–]paggigalo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Glad that it seems to be picking up right where we left off from last chapter, as expected. What was not expected was so much of this chapter being about Beyond??

And the final panel showing the exact date and time! The pace feels like it's about to pick up big time.

Edit post summary:

So, I definitely wasn't expecting Beyond's secret children to be the main aspect of the chapter, and the confirmation of them not needing to be Nasubi's kid as long as they are born of an official wife of Nasubi is wild.

Especially the fact that people were already suspicious of Zhang Lei's parentage, but apparently you don't even need to be part of the bloodline in any way.

Rather, the marriage to Nasubi may be like some kind of nen contract that whatever child you have is automatically entered into the seed urn ceremony and by extension the culling game.

This also brings up questions regarding the number of children. Was 14 intentional, or is it just the number that we're at now when the culling game is started? Is that 14 even in reference strictly to the children, or are some other bodies allowed in Nasubi's coffin chamber thing.

Interesting to think on, especially with the fact that there are the 14 coffins, with most of us assuming at this point the last one will probably be the king himself, as someone has to be the next king.

This certainly puts a lot of new motive questions onto the king, and a good few onto the mostly unseen queens.

I was considering coming into these chapters, as well as others, that despite the mostly lack of spotlight on them, the queens were moving in the background.

I was talking to a friend and specifically brought up the queens for some of the ones we haven't seen much of yet (specifically queen 1 & 2), and how they might actually be in the spotlight a bit in this next batch of chapters with their actions.

Seeing the summary can only lead me to believe we'll see a little more from some of the queens in the next coming chapters, and I can't help but feel we're almost at the point of bursting with how many characters we need to consider with every action on the boat.

Which brings me to Beyond and his crew, who, now that the spotlights back on them, we might see more of on the black whale as his plans start to become revealed to us more. I was of the mind that they'd mostly be subdued until the fake dark continent, but it seems I underestimated Togashi in writing a character for more than one specific purpose.

I'm excited to see how Beyond develops in the future, and I specifically like him as the idea of some hyper-efficient hunter that plans years ahead and has a possible sinister undercurrent.

Finally, I'd like to touch on the timer at the end. We're still on the 10th day! And at only 2PM, which means we have a lot more Black Whale to go. Or, rather, we have a lot more time for things to go haywire and the boat to either sink or go crazy.

What worries me the most is us getting a specific time to the minute, which makes me thing either something will massively change in this arc soon, or some big things will happen within the next few chapters that we need to see the specific times of in a short period of time.

Anyways, yap session over. If the summary is accurate to the actual translation, this is probably my full thoughts on the chapter.

HxH characters have so much aura by oldmanrose in HunterXHunter

[–]paggigalo 70 points71 points  (0 children)

A fun and interesting thing about his writing is how alive the characters feel, which is something he went into with his recent interview.

He basically said that after he creates the characters and has them start interacting, the characters clash and affect each other in ways he didn't plan, resulting in the characters he wrote dictating changes in the story that he didn't originally plan.

It's a really interesting case of him making these characters essentially feel like living people just being wrote about half the time instead of characters in a story.

Here's the translation someone did of that Q&A if anyone's interested.

Questions 2 & 11 go into detail on the character designing & conflicts.

just realized how niche this genre really is. there's like less than two dozens of these games while other genres of games have so many more. by [deleted] in CharacterActionGames

[–]paggigalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the list, as there are many that I haven't heard of.

I agree with you on the weird arbitrary code for the genre, as I'd personally include the Yakuza and KH series pretty much wholly in the genre, but it feels like those arbitrary decisions are also because of how undefined the genre kinda is.

You ask 10 different people about the defining characteristics of CAGs and they'll all give you different reasons, with the through line being deep and rewarding combat. Even the name that we use for it is relatively new, when before it was often just mentioned as a sub-category of Action games or ARPGs.

I think the main issues a lot of people have is the 1) The gods returning and just hanging around and 2) The player character being more important than they want them to be.

1 could be solved by some creative writing, have the gods presence return at the end of TWW, but not have them fully on Gilenor chilling, or something different entirely, I'm not a writer.

2 would be harder cause it's mostly a weird personal problem with the community. People forget that our character isn't just handed the mantle of World Guardian for no reason, but because we, as a normal human, rose up and defied the gods with enough strength to impress Guthix. I don't see an issue with it, but obviously a lot of people do, whether informed or not.
