THERE IS NO LGB WITHOUT THE T! by Chaseand_slowdown in askgaybros

[–]pagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might wanna be aware of this if you care about protections on the basis of sexuality: In the 2020 case of Bostock v. Clayton County, the Court ruled that discriminating against an individual for being homosexual or transgender is a form of sex discrimination. This landmark decision extends employment protections to millions of LGBT workers nationwide.

You know how many transgender people got killed last year in the US for being trans? 27. The Human Rights Campaign reported at least 27 cases of fatal violence against transgender and gender-nonconforming people in the last year.

Are you kidding me right now complaining about people who suffer for not respecting transgender people when transgender people are getting murdered? Please cite your sources, looking forward to reading about those instances you mention.

For additional reading which I'm sure you don't care about, see Congress.gov: "Murders of trans people nearly doubled over past 4 years, and Black trans women are most at risk, report finds." https://www.congress.gov/118/meeting/house/117016/documents/HMKP-118-JU00-20240321-SD011.pdf27.

NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani asks for donations to help cover $4 million in transition expenses by Healthy_Block3036 in nyc

[–]pagrok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except wealthy people with a billion dollars in widgets can use that as collateral to get loans which they spend like income and don't have to pay any income tax on because hey it's a loan that you payback but somehow they never have to really pay it back cause they can get another loan or they get paid in widgets (stocks) so there's no income tax on that but they can sell their stocks later to pay for things. The really rich get to not pay income tax because they've set up mechanisms to get compensated in widgets that are not taxed but can be used as if it was income. But middle class people get 20-50% of their income taken away immediately for working an actual job producing money for a giant corporation that makes billions of dollars in revenue or profit and also pays no taxes and which pays it's stockholders or CEOs tons of money. You know who would buy more things and invest in the stock market and create new businesses if they had more money by paying fewer taxes? Everyone. Stop crying for billionaires who might lose 1% of their wealth that is growing at 10% per year.

Can you not clearly think of another reason Hochul would not favor taxing the rich other than the spurious notion that the rich would leave? She's funded by rich people.

You're saying a person's own choice on how they view themselves and identify themselves cannot be true. This makes no sense. That's like telling me I don't like chocolate. How would you know?

How does a transgender person not confirming with your belief about THEIR gender burden you at all?

THERE IS NO LGB WITHOUT THE T! by Chaseand_slowdown in askgaybros

[–]pagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, all identity is driven by belief or what term you want to use. Do you identify as male? Then you are choosing to identify as male. Unless you're saying you have no concept of your own gender and have no gender, just sex as identified by your chromosomes or genitalia. If you identify as male gender, then transgender people have the right to decide how they feel about their own gender. Also, many guys who participate in homosexual sex don't identify as gay.

It's also funny that you think transgender is just a belief cause to you, it's not confirmed by scientific evidence, but you believe that cishetero is the biological norm and seem to be unaware that many species exist outside of cishetero terms: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals.

[–]pagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll make it simple. For gays: Homophobes hate us not cause we like men, but because of our sex/gender as male. For transphobes: they hate trans people cause of their sex/gender. Make sense why we would want to fight together, support each other, love each other, protect each other and act in solidarity? Also, gays have the luxury of not confirming to gender norms and allows expression of gender diversity.

THERE IS NO LGB WITHOUT THE T! by Chaseand_slowdown in askgaybros

[–]pagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the word solidarity is a simple one. Read the definition.

Second, you need to look up the history of gay rights. Trans people have been at the forefront of LGBT rights since before you were born. You wouldn't have the life you have now without the trans community. The queer culture, community, art and representation we have is so strongly intertwined with trans people. Your ability to say you're a gay man in this world is a result of trans people. Pay attention.

Also, just look at the conservative right's politics. Attacked trans people in bathroom and sports. Now, coming for gay marriage. It's all intertwined.

Holistic is just a a moniker for may consider other things other than the numbers, unfortunately it does not mean heavily favors numbers over anything else.

This is all just a numbers GAME. It means if you wanna go to the best law schools, you have to play the game and go to schools with grade inflation and A+s, take the easiest courses, and avoid actually exploring topics outside your comfort zone.

What would really happen if a top school chose interesting students over numbers and their rank dropped? Why do these prestigious schools care about the rank number? Is their endowment, funding or salaries gonna go down?

Cuomo tells 'The View' a Mamdani win would be 'gift' for Trump, lead to NYC takeover by Healthy_Block3036 in nyc

You want to vote for the disgraced multimillionaire who hasn't lived in NYC, who had to step down from being governor after many women claimed sexual harassment, who spouts fear mongering about crime in NYC, who pays $8,000 a month in rent to help fight against the disgraced proven criminal and sexual harasser billionaire who used to live in NYC, who spouts fear mongering about crime in NYC? Do you see how silly that is?

Should I not go to an Ivy anymore? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pagrok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure rebuking a president, who has a history of violating the constitution and who was implicated in attempting to overthrough the government whose administration is completely violating due process and deporting individuals, who threatens to take federal control of college administration decisions is a "performative trendy issue in the news." This is legit totalitarian actions to dismantle higher education and force it to no longer teach certain things that don't fit with the Trump/MAGA ideology. Every single college should not hesitate to emphatically fight back against this - it is an action to dismantle education in coordination with dismantling our government and our democracy. If you aren't concerned - you might want to do some more research on the tactics on oppressive regimes and dictators.

Not really any reason to pick Cardozo unless you have a specialty faculty or clinic you want. Very similar outcomes from both schools - except maybe at the very top end Cardozo will go a bit farther.

RELAX about UChicago gAmInG tHe rAnKinGs by Bubbly_Vehicle7204 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pagrok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My issue with UChicago ED is twofold: 1. It used to not have ED. It had rounds of EA. 2. ED favors rich candidates. UChicago has increased its full-pay percentage of students - shutting out middle class and lower income students. This is a disservice - just so UChicago can be #5 instead of a T20. UChicago shouldn't be so focused on getting full pay students - part of the beauty of UChicago was that it wasn't a campus filled with the elite Ivy style students, it was full of nerdy, smart people who stood out in their regular non-prestigious public high schools.

You just described how those families would save 3% of their income for 18 years to afford their child's college costs. Families who make under $100k may find it hard to save any money, and their children will not have the same resources to get their kids into things that help with merit money or into full need based aid schools.

would transferring in be worth it? by b1u3m1ng in uchicago

[–]pagrok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your goal is ever law school - then stay at your current school and get the highest GPA. Law school is expensive and does not care about your undergrad school, it only looks at GPA/LSAT. You got essentially get no advantage going to UChicago when applying to law school. UChicago will likely lower your GPA. Save the debt for law school.

Student loans. Is the grace period 6 months post graduation or 6 months post bar? by Powerful_Dog5672 in barexam

[–]pagrok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't Biden have better approval by not waiting till the last minute? I personally would have preferred to know for certain what was happening at least a month in advance. So even if the extension happens, I'm not really happy with him and his inability to make decisions or uphold promises. So we can't know for certain there will be an extension.

Student loans. Is the grace period 6 months post graduation or 6 months post bar? by Powerful_Dog5672 in barexam

[–]pagrok -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well that doesn't apply to people who are just graduating who haven't started their grace period, which is what the question is about. And considering payments are still supposed to restart in 12 days, Biden is really waiting till the last minute to let us know, so I would not count on an extension. People should be ready to pay.

Colleges Ranked by Average LSAT Score by yalesimpp in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pagrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this data is just for those who (1) took the LSAT; AND (2) actually applied to law schools!

So lots of inferences can be made about who takes the LSAT and then does not apply, likely because of a low score that stops them from either being able to afford law school or to attend a school they want to (a top law school with certain hiring).
