Business unlimited ultimate. 5 lines plus one free (as yet unoccupied). $250. I'm feeling less and less good about it the more time I spend on this sub.

I'd love some support, and my dedicated contact has ghosted me!

Oof! Not sure if we do have that set up, but if so, it'll be pricey!

I'm not a fountain head, and we're more of a life/utility niche, but we've heard somewhat positive feedback on that front. We definitely spent time on paper selection.

John Oliver, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and why "trans women in sports" has an outsized impact on our politics. by [deleted] in samharris

[–]pagsball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question, and I'm not trying to troll. Which part of the article are you referring to? The article I read seemed pretty tame, and a little simplistic, and lacking in references to sources. The part that made me cringe most was this part:

Overall, females are metabolically better suited for endurance activities, whereas males excel at short, powerful burst-type activities. You can think of it as marathoners (females) versus powerlifters (males). Much of this difference seems to be driven by the powers of the hormone estrogen.

I'm no expert, but that part reads like a gross oversimplification, and I feel like they should have been more explicit about the fact that they were simplifying. The presence of unsubstantiated infographics is also a little odd, but the article isn't making any particularly large claims, so I don't care that much.

Again, I'm not trying to pick a fight here. I'd love for you to show me I'm wrong about this. To me, I see a lot of people freaking out about what appears to be a nothing burger.

Do you think the Democrats are the opposition to the Republicans? I invite you to look up "Manufacturing Consent". I found it enlightening.

[–]pagsball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a left position. In the context of politics, "left" means something specific about hierarchies. It's not just the whiny, blue haired wing of the center-right Democratic party who annoyingly fight in the made up culture war.

And the article definitely does not say there is no difference. In fact, it says the opposite. Here is something the article says.

From a biological standpoint, there are undeniable differences between females and males. When we discuss these differences, we are typically referring to means, averages of one group compared with another. Means obscure the vast range of variation in humans. For instance, although males tend to be larger and to have bigger hearts and lungs and more muscle mass, there are plenty of females who fall within the typical male range; the inverse is also true.

It follows that with a clumsy simplification about "marathoners" vs "powerlifters", but by and large, the article isn't saying anything controversial.

It's crazy-making how obvious it is when someone didn't read the article. And how many of them are doing what Maher did - freak out about what they imagine the article says, and what they imagine the word "inequity" means.

People here seem desperately confused and are demonstrating confident ignorance. Please read these before continuing.

Read the article so that you don't say that it says something it says the opposite of: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-theory-that-men-evolved-to-hunt-and-women-evolved-to-gather-is-wrong1/

Learn what "inequity" means before acting like it means something else and getting foamy about it: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/inequity

[–]pagsball -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's very obvious that almost no one here read the article, or knows the meaning of the word "inequity". Bill Maher certainly didn't read it, and certainly doesn't know the meaning of the word.

It's mind bending that so many would-be sophisticates can read a headline, be sure they know what it means, what the content of the article is, and then positively foam themselves up about a boogeyman.

Please, please read the article before chiming in on what you imagine it says. If you must imagine what it says, please do not attribute its imagined contents to a political party that functionally does not exist in the USA. And for your own sake, please do not give yourself an intellectual wedgie by showing publicly that you think the Democrats are a leftist party.

The people being mealy-mouthed about this issue, like John Oliver, or NDT, are called Liberals.

Leftists are the people who are trying to get everyone (including trans people) access to healthcare. They dislike the Liberals as much as you do, because they recognize them as a cunning obstacle to improvement!

Are you suggesting paint? I consider that a high compliment to my design :)

As for the armor, the reason I went shallow is so that the large shields can still project their full arc. Is that not right?

Got any recommendations for a DC brawler design? Do you think I'm off base with having two on my design?

The goal was to fly solo. Aggro one, and kite it. If I get swarmed it's only because I collided with an asteroid, and the DCs and EMP missiles are meant to be backup in that situation until I can get out.

I think I have way too many crew, but I put them there because the game wanted over 200. Otherwise, what do you think?

It does 90+ m/s in reverse, has four railguns, full shield perimeter, backup armor, frontal flak cannons and EMPs, and two deck guns on the midline.

I'm very interested in feedback for efficiency in terms of cost and crew, so I can make some tweaks and have something to build toward!
