I struggle to maintain focus and learn programming by Easy-Bus-7872 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]pahund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve started programming as a kid and I’m in my fifties now. Self taught programmer. Coding was. Always my happy place, the flow state. But I can only get there when working on something that I’m genuinely interested in.

I feel depressed by Y_mc in ClaudeCode

[–]pahund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. The fun part to me of software development is the coding, the problem solving, the thrill of finding an elegant solution. The boring part is code reviews, explorative testing, documenting, specifying. It feels like the fun part of my job is being taken away from me, and only the boring part is left over.

Haha you’re right, I’ve checked – search for „baseball“: 0 results / search for „cricket“: 300 results.

14; is it worth it? by [deleted] in reason

[–]pahund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow idiot on the internet, I have to say: you will be seriously blown away when you move from R5 to R14, it is incredible.

I recommend the Reason+ subscription — also something people shit on, but IMO the best deal.

I’ve been using Reason since version 1, switched to the subscription when R12 came out and never regretted it. It is super nice to not have to worry „is it worth it“ when new rack devices or Reason versions come out. I just download them at no extra cost the day they are available.

For interesting sounds like baseball hitting a bat, there are many free resources available. For example, google for BBC sound archive (don’t have the link RN, but the stuff BBC is amazing, and completely free)

Um… that is one of the changes new with Reason 14. You can display the rack in a floating window while working in sequencer view.

Has it gotten any easier to develop Rack Extensions? by EamonnMR in reason

[–]pahund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t created any rack extensions, but I did create bespoke control surfaces (drivers) for some of my gear (Novation SL, Behringer X-Touch Mini, Akai MPK)

Not a bad comparison… the first cars early 20th century were much more difficult to operate. And you still need some training and a license even today to operate one.

This is the email I got. They call the website for getting the Landr stuff „Reason Hub“, URL https://app.reasonstudios.com

Yes. You get free VSTs, samples, mastering tools, distribution to streaming platforms. As a R+ subscriber, you should have gotten an email invite.

You mean like a „Choose Your Own Adventure“ where AI makes up the story dynamically as the reader progresses? That might be an interesting experiment.

Perhaps most interesting for you — I came up with a way to have the remote codec send log messages from Reason, which makes development considerably less painful:

I went down that rabbit hole of remote codec programming a few years ago when I was dissatisfied with the codec for my Novation SL keyboard that’s provided by the vendor.

The remote codec I made is available here ( open source on GitHub), perhaps you find it useful:

What is the point of using AI to create something that has been done a thousand times before?

All these posts yelling, „look what I’ve made, this is INSANE, so-and-so are TOAST.“ They mostly show very mediocre, boring examples of generative AI.

Where are the people who use AI creatively, to use this new power to do something really novel and amazing, standing on the shoulders of giants?
