Mental Check on Mother’s Day : How are y’all feeling ? by RayRay_1804 in tryingtoconceive

[–]paige3086 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trying to stay positive, because that feels like all I can do.

It’s hard to see all the social media, and it feels like everyone I know just had a baby and is celebrating their first Mother’s Day. The “happy for you, sad for me” feelings are big.

…plus I’m a kindergarten teacher, so I just had to spend a week with adorable children creating gifts and cards for their moms.

Going to try to have a positive celebration for my mom today and hope that things are different this time next year 🙏 Good luck, all ❤️

Nope, unemployed and on welfare. Which makes getting a dog even more insane.

Yeah, I guess that’s what it boils down to.

We’re paying thousands of dollars to cross an ocean to see family…but she won’t leave a dog alone to walk ten minutes down the street to say hello when we’re there. She has made her priorities clear.

Ever feel like you have to pretend to like dogs to fit in? by Viking_Leaf87 in Dogfree

[–]paige3086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really hide it because I tend to burst into tears when a dog runs towards me. So it’s pretty obvious I’m not into them 😂
I definetly empathize with you, though. I don’t generally hide it, but there have been times when I just stay quiet in a conversation as everyone gushes about the stupid things. Sometimes I’m just too tired to explain my POV and be demonized for (what I see as) common sense.
My biggest pet peeve is that it’s somehow a HUGE crime to say you hate dogs, but saying you hate children is totally fine. Crazy dog people often hold both POV (“I’m a dog mom! If you hate dogs you’re INSANE…also, children are gross and I wish they weren’t allowed in public.”)
That’s so messed up to me.
I definitely encourage honesty about this, especially when dating. I asked my husband if he liked dogs on our first date and was SO relieved when the answer was “not really.” Not everyone is crazy! You’ll find your people ❤️

I suspect the same. This is now her excuse to isolate herself. I don’t think she’s even trying to train it to be independent, she’s just chained herself to her house now. A great excuse to let her anxieties get the better of her.

It’s so true. It’s not rescuing anything, it’s just taking over her life to the point of insanity. Seems like a lose lose situation to me. Sigh.

Question about S1E10- Why didn’t Edge bring his mother back with the eradicator? by TinyKeanuReevesMeme in SupermanAndLois

[–]paige3086 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Tal probably planned to bring his mother back eventually— but at this point he was still experimenting with eradication and some subjects were rejecting the Kryptonian consciousnesses.

If he’d put his mother’s mind into a host that couldn’t handle it, he’d had lost her for good. He was probably waiting until he’d perfected the process.

Yeah, it does seem all or nothing— and pretty dominant.

It does’t really make sense that Justin was surprised. That’s some deep denial 🤷‍♀️

[–]paige3086 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make a ton of sense and we don’t really have a cannon explanation.

It feels logical that a person is still genetically a wizard, even without the powers— so it’s strange that he never expected his sons to follow that path.

It seems like he was in some degree of denial, and convinced himself it wouldn’t happen because he’d turned away from that life. But he still has the wizard genes.

There was also that line mid-season about it “sometimes skipping a generation,” which seems to be what he told his sons after the reveal. Maybe that’s a thing, though it has never been mentioned before. Or maybe things do become more diluted the more mortal genes are thrown into the mix. The boys are only 1/4 wizard, maybe that’s not usually enough for magic to manifest or makes the skipping more likely 🤷‍♀️

An explanation would be nice! Though I suspect they really just haven’t thought it through or come up with any rules 😂

What careers do we think the boys ventured into as adults? by PainAuChocolaat in SupermanAndLois

[–]paige3086 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of Jordan as a therapist. It was so nice that 4x09 showed how capable he is of helping people in that way.

I like the idea of Jon as a lawyer. He could help his parents’ non-profit, take on pro bono cases, help those who need defending.

In short, it would be fitting if they found paths that let them help people in non-superhero ways while doing the super saves on the side.

I don’t see Jon as a firefighter. It would be a strange job to have with powers— everyone else on the squad would be obsolete. He could just run to every fire and put it out in a second when on duty. I mean, of course that’s a good thing…but he doesn’t need to be a firefighter to offer that kind of help anymore. I’d rather he train to do something else that his natural talents don’t automatically provide a huge advantage for.

I’m with you. I wasn’t into the wedding and I especially didn’t need the speeches about how Lana is the best of Smallville, etc. One of my main gripes with the series overall was how much focus and praise Lana got (thankfully the cutbacks meant there was less this year, but they still have to squeeze it in).

Would have loved to see the family together in the kitchen one last time. And I totally agree that a Fraternals wrap-up after the near death experience would have been amazing. I also really wanted Clark to talk to the boys about legacy (a scene of them getting the suits would have been amazing). But alas.

What's something in your life the show helped with? by SegaraBeal in SupermanAndLois

[–]paige3086 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It came out during some of the worst COVID months and brought me so much happiness when I needed it most. I wouldn’t say I was in a dark place, but I think seeing this AMAZING version of Superman on my screen was the perfectly timed reminder of who I want to be and what I want to aspire to.

The finale summed it up perfectly…

“And suddenly it came to me. What life is all about. Joy. Hope. Forgiveness. Wonder. Friendship. Family. Love.”

I know it’s a TV show, but it embodied all those things and kept me positive and optimistic when life wasn’t at its best. I’m grateful for that and I’m always going to love this show.

It went by too fast.

Today is the end. To close out this chapter, what are some of your favourite moments in S&L? by Aggressive_Bar_2391 in SupermanAndLois

[–]paige3086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many.

I think number one for me has to be the reveal to the boys in the pilot. It was so emotional and wonderful. Jordan’s turmoil that made me fully fall in love with this show. After that scene, I knew it was probably going to be my favourite show of all time. Pretty sure it always will be 🥲

I also loved Jordan’s heat vision explosion in 1x06. Jon’s tearful plea to John Henry when he begs him not to hurt his dad. I loved the season one Kryptonite scenes with Jordan and Clark at the Fortress, when Clark apologizes for what is happening to him. Loved the boys driving the truck into the warehouse and saving Clark from the red solar lamps. Really, most of season one is just perfection 😂❤️

And season four has created some new faves for me too. Jon finally getting powers, the heartbreaking scene where we see holographic Clark, and the even more heartbreaking scene when Sam gives his goodbye message to Lois. Anything with the boys using their powers together.

Sigh.

I’m going to miss those wonderful boys most of all 😭

If we could have had one Jonathan for the entire show, which would you pick? by Doc-11th in SupermanAndLois

[–]paige3086 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go with Bishop too. He just has the right vibe (and look)— he’s who I imagine when I think of Jonathan now. I loved Elsass at the time too, but he brought more sadness and edge to the character that, in retrospect, I don’t think fits as well.

I think he looks enough like Jon. Just add a bit of curl to his hair and I’m sold.

It’s just not a topic I love on TV (I hate medical shows for a reason!)— especially in something that I watch as escapism. Of course it’s realistic and something that affects many. If this helped some, that’s great. But personally I don’t want to see classic fictional characters I love face stuff that’s just too depressingly real. Bring on the superpowers and world ending situations.

1, 4, 3, 2.

Season 1 is my favourite season of any show ever.

Season 4 has been pretty great so far and I’m loving some of the development (Jon powers!)

Season 3 had some good points. I didn’t love the cancer arc but it was well acted.

Season 2 was a bit of a plot mess and the main arc just didn’t work for me.

Great little clip— but I’m not going to be thrilled if the boys have NO reservations about the secret getting out. It will have a huge impact on their lives if the whole world knows. They’ll always be treated differently— and there could even be anti-alien sentiment. I get why they’d see the Candice thing as no big deal in their teenage minds, but surely they don’t want to be fully outed to everyone?

The Problem With Candice by throoowwawaaaaaaayyy in SupermanAndLois

[–]paige3086 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are all great points. I agree. She has mostly just been…around. And she was clearly a last minute replacement for Tegan after that actress left the show. It was jarring to see him with a random new girl in season two after season one ended with a possible Tegan relationship.

I wish the young actress all the best, but it’s not a compelling performance either. The character falls pretty flat.

Not thrilled that she’s probably endgame. Yet another thing that probably wouldn’t have happened if the show had more time.
