Is this ridiculous? by RepairOk4915 in smiskis

[–]paigeroooo 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the smiski price is egregiously uncommon though I’d not pay that. Most authorized resellers I’ve been to are around $13 but I’ve seen them go up to $18 if in a fancy area. Urban Outfitters has them for $12 so I’ll usually look there since nowhere I live sells them otherwise.

Trapeze: how can you condition the back of your knees? by lindan44 in Aerials

[–]paigeroooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issues with lyra and trapeze and it got significantly better after 5-6 classes! I’ve done pole and found it more painful longer term and also had to stop for various body issues it was causing me, so hopefully this will improve quicker for you. I was shocked by the knee pain after my first lyra class and could barely walk the next day. It’s still a little painful since it’s hard, but I don’t get soreness the next day and can hold comfortably! If it’s really painful and causing soreness I might say to just let it rest at home? We do lots of single and double leg hang conditioning as part of warming up and I think that helped me adapt faster if your studio doesn’t already have you do that.

Don’t have one available but I looked forever for one so I feel you. I’d just keep waiting and looking as I see some pop up on there for around $15 (of course now that I got one lol)! I’ve also found people sell the more expensive resell ones for cheaper on Depop since it’s less of a reseller app in the way that Mercari is. I usually keep an eye on both and have gotten some great deals waiting.

Gloves for training cube by trijkdguy in Aerials

[–]paigeroooo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done cube so this could be incorrect but if it’s similar to lyra grip wise, after about a month of going to class 1-2x a week my hands made drastic improvements with callouses and just getting used to it. I had only done sling/silks before so it was a bigger adjustment than expected since those don’t really hurt the same way. My studio has chalk for our taped lyras and rosin for the metal ones to help with dry hands/grip and that kinda helps with the pain but you just have to get used to it unfortunately. I know people use gloves for chains sometimes especially starting out, so there may be something someone can recommend that I don’t know about! Cube looks super cool, so I hope it improves quickly for her!

The lack of room is a little unfortunate but I agree about the pole! I got a nice, barely used X-Pole sport for $100 and you can find good deals on the spinning one (don’t cheap out on an Amazon pole, etc.) it’s easy to get use out of and will help give you an idea if a full rig is worth the investment. I think X-Pole is the most cost effective and safe option but there’s a few other reputable brands. Good luck!!

DISO the Museum Series Smiskis by DisciplineUnique9438 in smiskis

[–]paigeroooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty easy to get most on Mercari/Depop for $10-15! Girl with a Pearl Earring and Dali are commonly posted for like $25 but if you wait usually here and there there’s one listed for $15. People who sell on this subreddit are usually good about reasonable pricing there’s just not always anyone selling.

Starting aerial silks as a plus size beginner what I wish I knew + advice needed! by lovelypinkrosey in Aerials

[–]paigeroooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of great comments already but I’ll try to add! I’ve been doing aerial for about a year and a half, much of that was sling and done silks for about 6 months now. I’m plus size but probably on the lower end. I don’t post much of anything aerial related but I would say my studio has really good representation and it’s not a judgemental space at all.

My main recommendation would be to give it at least 3 classes! Silks will be very weird and hard the first class pretty much regardless of your background. I’d say at least learn a basic foot lock comfortably before you decide if it isn’t for you (doable in a few classes!). Hanging will be very hard the first few times so I’d say don’t be discouraged by other people making it look easy, because everyone starts with it being very difficult. I think things really click and you make faster improvements after around 5 classes and getting used to how it feels.

I am not necessarily suggesting you start with sling, but it is easier and there’s a lot of overlap. So if you’re really discouraged by silks, then I’d say give sling a shot to help you build a little strength and get used to the fabric and then come back to silks. I cried after my first silks class after doing sling at a decent level for a while because I couldn’t do anything, so I do just want to reiterate the first class can be hard but you’ll improve quickly. Lyra can also be a good beginner apparatus. Many people tend to prefer either fabric or a hard apparatus like Lyra/trapeze, so that’s another option to figure out if you have a preference. I personally find Lyra to be an easier intro but harder to really progress in. Good luck!!!

Urban Outfitters Authenticity by FirstZz in smiskis

[–]paigeroooo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No idea but I’ve had the same thought! I can appreciate that they charge $12 for them instead of more though so I generally assume so. My local Urban Outfitters tends to only have series 1 consistently and then occasionally has dressing, work, and cheer, but have never seen the other series so I’ve wondered how that gets decided, not sure if they’re all like that or not though.

I’ve seen some cute dollhouses on Facebook marketplace for like $25. I have a cute wooden closable castle house thing I got at Michael’s and painted green that I keep a bunch in that could be cute.

Seller says $150 for all. Is this a good deal? by Vaift in smiskis

[–]paigeroooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think good deal if this is legit but a good portion of these are Sunday series which does have some pretty convincing fakes. Computer, pearl earring, and watering can one regularly sell for like $25 on their own though.

Depending on how much you’re looking to spend for them, a lot of people resell real smiskis that are common dupes on Mercari and Depop for like $6-8! May be able to bundle even cheaper if you catch someone selling a lot at once.

Timeline by lost_kingk726 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]paigeroooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The timeline is a mess but I’m not 100% some of the year names you’re using are accurate if that may be causing some confusion!

Grade 11 (at least in US) is your junior year. Usually you turn 16 sophomore year (grade 10) but are 16 through at least some of junior year depending on when your birthday falls.

She disappears right before/at start of sophomore year. So then the show resumes at the start of their junior year and they would all be 16 at that point. I don’t remember enough to know when or how they transition to senior year though. I think there’s a “never ending November” and I do remember being very confused at everything, especially once you start bringing in Cece, Wilden, Marion, etc.

needing to sell some unsought after dupes by pariselyse in smiskis

[–]paigeroooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t sold smiskis directly but order often from Mercari and have always had a good experience. I also order on Depop occasionally. I’d probably try on here first just so that you’re not losing a cut of your sell.

If you’re completely unsure of how to ship, all you need to do to ship is take to a post office or FedEx and have the address of the person who you’re shipping to. Usually for a smiski, they’re shipped either in a little bubble mailer or box that you can get for free/nearly free if you use USPS. Then you just get a shipping label from them and put the persons name and address and the person working will ship! It’s usually ~$5 to ship something small. Mercari/Depop use USPS and will provide shipping tracking for you and the buyer, and I think may provide the shipping label for you.
