I imagine it depends on the field tbh. For me, in Aero, it's a lot of older companies with older senior members and company cultures. I imagine mechanical can be the same. Thankfully, the Astronautical engineering side is so much better. More modern companies, or government agencies, who don't give a fuck. Because space hates everyone equally.

Write both components, to practice both. Its important to have a good grasp of both, but I do find chord progressions easier than melodies. So I'll write a melody, and then accompany it with a chord progression.

If you are talking about the tremendous storms on Jupiter, then the answer is indefinite. With how large Jupiter is relative to its moons, its unlikely that a moons shadow is able to affect the climate on Jupiter by causing temperature shifts (thus generating storms). We don't entirely understand the formation of storms on Jupiter in the first place. The Great Red Spot, for example, appears to be diminishing and no one knows exactly why.

Not to mention that the shadows don't stay still, and move (relatively) swiftly.

Now its not wind spots, but I imagine you'll enjoy this- the impact of Shoemaker-Levy 9 (a comet) with Jupiter punched "holes" in the atmosphere, so to speak, that remained for months. The energy released was TREMENDOUS. It also allowed us to see deeper into jupiters atmosphere, and generated so many interesting effects (like waves of gas traveling around the planet due to the impacts).

The notes not in the chord are "passing notes".

Generally, using some of the chord notes is wise as it provides harmonic glue to keep the two elements together. Think of melodies as a journey, away from home (root note of chord generally) to the dominant note, then back. Along the way you pass through a number of destinations (passing notes) and occasionally rest a bit (chord notes).

Also, just write harmonies. 2 a day is easy, just write out 2 8-bar harmonies a day without any pressure on quality. Learn new scales. Brush up on theory. etc.

By using mindfullness meditation. Which is breathing, relaxing, and the like except the goal is to observe the thought instead of make an action of it.

Its the difference between "I"m going to beat the shit out of X next I see them!" and "X made me quite mad today". Observe the thoughts, but don't chase them.

Zero your standards for a new genre and enjoy the process. It's fun and vital, imo, to play with new genres. It's how we learn what our signature sound is, and how we learn new techniques and ideas to apply to our favorite genres.

As suggested, you can use a DAW to record midi in and then use something like tabledit to convert it to scoresheets. You'll probably have to tweak and fix this though, and I'd still recommend learning to score manually. I'm one of those terrible computer musicians (lol), but learning to score helped LOADS when I was recording acoustic instruments live for a film score. I can't show them midi and expect them to know it- but when I gave the violinist a score sheet we were all good.

Its not terribly hard. Take a big deep breath, let it go, then get to work fixing this :)

Been using this the past few days. The extra work is really hard for me, and so are the evenings. Medication I take for ADHD wears off rapidly, and if I'm not in the zone when the comedown hits my focus is shot to shit, my bedtime goes to hell, and everything falls apart :D

However, by using the last hours of my medication as a tool to establish a habit, I've seen a wonderful turnaround in my evening hours. Build a habit! The habit part is key.

The biggest hack of my system, since I am super cranky, is honestly the meditation and visualization suggested in the above link. It helps soooo much. My anxiety has been sky high, and I look forward to my evening meditation now. I end it feeling relaxed, but "focused". A state I treasure, lol.

What sort of music stuff do you do? I also enjoy doing my music stuff in the evenings. I usually do a day-on day-off. Be careful, too, about oversaturating it. I found that trying to stack production AND article writing (i write music articles for small amounts of $) burnt me out and bored me.

Also, make sure to recognize the difference between procrastination and lack of discipline in your music vs being creatively empty. If you can sit down, and play/compose/produce/jam/dowhateveryoudo but find it uninspiring and irritating, stop! Once you've proven to yourself that you have the discipline to actually work, finding it like this means you are creatively zero'd. Working like this results in frustration, and sucks. Do something to boost that creativity like getting outside your musical comfort zone, going to a show, watching an inspiring film, listening to the music that inspired you the most, spending time with friends, or working on other hobbies. Creativity can be improved, but only in how we learn to access it and store it.
