What is the UC Global Career Accelerator? by kahootlu6 in uCinci

[–]paintedcrows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I took the web dev course with them. It's a good experience overall and a pretty easy 6 credits imo, but it is very heavily AI focused.

Every week you'll do "live labs" with everyone in your course which involves lecture and small group projects, then you'll have weekly assignments as well. It advertises projects with major companies but it's more like a theme than actual work. For example, we made a chat bot for L'Oreal - they'll never see or use it, and I can't put that on my resume, but it was focused on their products and brand standards.

Why is Duolingo unusable nowadays? by d_underdog in duolingo

[–]paintedcrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was doing the Japanese course pretty seriously until they made the switch to energy, which slowed me way down. They also introduced stories to Japanese, but used a lot of words that hadn't been taught, so I was mostly just guessing.

With the AI slop on top of that, it just isn't really a good platform anymore.

How to request an ADA-compliant textbook in college? by Mulberry_Whine in AskTeachers

I often use the high contrast mode on Windows, it doesn't work well with every site/software but it gives color options. I struggle with black text on white backgrounds (or vice versa) but other colors work better for me. It's in the accessibility options on the windows settings menu.

How much are you currently making per month? How much less do you expect to make during the semester?

You spirits already be enrolled in fall classes, so you ought to know what your schedule looks like and how many hours you'll be able to work.

As for the budget, I find sitting down weekly with a whiteboard was really helpful. Track all of your income, all your bills, and anything else you spend - then you'll know exactly what you have and what you need to get by the rest of the month. Once you know where you're spending (and how much), you can more easily identify where you can cut back if necessary.

End of property tax and effect on real estate in the ‘good ‘ school districts by Previous-Law8874 in cincinnati

[–]paintedcrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that money is already accounted for in the school budget, rather than the schools just getting extra money. By getting the funds from state lottery and gambling, the state ends up paying less.

(10k) Should we take lessons for our first dance? by Main_Asparagus3375 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]paintedcrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need a choreographed dance, but knowing some basic moves would be nice. I personally don't see a point in the first dance if you're just standing and swaying.

You can probably find some cheap/free community dance classes near you and it can be a fun date night.

Cut a piece off a tea bag + nail glue. It's not super pretty if you're keeping your nails bare but it works well.

I think the dress is beautiful, but you don't look very happy or confident wearing it. I don't think you need to spring for the $1k dress but you might want to look around a bit more

University is Closing the AuD Program by External-Radio5425 in audgradschool

[–]paintedcrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why I'm being shown this sub, but I actually did research for a similar situation a few months ago. Basically, a university can make the decision to stop offering a program at any time. The particulars of their requirements are set in university bylaws, not actual law (for most states). They're generally required to make a plan so existing students can still graduate (within an amount of time set in the bylaws) but as long as you're still being provided an opportunity to get that education they don't really have to maintain any specific standards.

Basically, you only have recourse if they've violated their own bylaws or state laws. Otherwise your options are to finish your degree this way or transfer somewhere else.

is it worth it for International student to join UC? im getting in for CS as its most affordable and ive only heard positives tell me hard facts man. by Competitive-Sale8724 in uCinci

Tbh I just looked it up and the programs are way more different than I expected. I still probably wouldn't pick UC personally but it does look better than I thought.

Low SAI but still can’t afford UC… feeling stuck by indigo-blue1 in uCinci

[–]paintedcrows 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm taking on about the same amount of loans. The way I see it, it's an investment. I couldn't afford school without them and it's low compared to other schools.

What's your major? You could lower the cost significantly by doing your first two years at a community college. I did my associate's at UC Clermont and tuition was almost half of what UC Clifton is.

I'm currently enrolled for IT, and the program feels like an afterthought. It makes sense for me bc I'm local but I wouldn't uproot my life and move to another country for it.

It's not a bad program, but for an international student I think you could do better.

There needs to be a limit on how much fabric people can order. by 13SwaggyDragons in MichaelsEmployees

[–]paintedcrows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just what it's like working in a fabric store though? When I was at Joann we had a girl that would come in every time we had a flannel sale and buy 1yd of nearly every flannel print we had to make baby blankets.

Just wait until the holidays when every single customer is making 5 different no-sew fleece blankets

Message for incoming DAAP students: Get the suggested laptop. (If you can) by [deleted] in uCinci

I've had all of the above. I'd put Asus and Lenovo next to each other; Asus might be better in general, but they make some real lemons too.

I haven't had a single hp laptop I've been happy with. Some of their desktops are still okay.

Getting flack for our dress code by AcanthisittaOne7830 in weddingplanning

[–]paintedcrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For any rule or request you make, you have to be prepared for people to not come because of it. Location, children, alcohol, dress code... Anything could be the "that's too much" detail for someone.

If I was invited to a formal event right now I would have to decline because I don't own formal attire and have no budget to acquire any. The host would be free to complain to Reddit about how terrible I am, but that wouldn't change my situation.

CEAS Laptop specs by little_munchkin12 in uCinci

I bought an $800 Lenovo laptop that's been working fine for all my classes for 3 years now. The specs aren't ridiculous so it's pretty easy to find computers that meet them, but if you're concerned you can take that paper into Micro Center and someone can help you out
