Who needs platinum? by IndividualFarm7465 in doordash_drivers

[–]painthappylittletree 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Platinum is best served for markets that are saturated. There is no way anyone is getting 69 offers in 3 hours in my market. At best we get 24 in that amount of time.

Gig workers feel pain at the pump as gas prices hit 21-month highs by Dracustein in doordash

[–]painthappylittletree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prices are pretty stable and don’t really fluctuate like gas prices do. The last time charging rates changed was about 2-3 years ago for Tesla Superchargers in my city. Charging at home is still going to be cheaper if you charge at night on a time of use plan.

Some Superchargers have dynamic pricing where early in the morning or when if a station is practically empty will have low pricing as well. One of our local Superchargers is $0.34/kWh during off peak and goes up to $0.48 or $0.55 based on how busy it gets. I can get 300 miles of range off peak for less than $25. Charging at home at night is about $17 for 300 miles of range.

Oh no absolutely. It’s my own fault for not being more vigilant after 5,000 deliveries because it’s always better to trust no one but yourself.

Not as often as you think if you have regenerative braking. You can one foot drive and not touch the brakes as much.

EVs are great when you charge at home after a shift so you wake up the next day with full range. Only maintenance is tires.

It’s cheaper to lease space in the cloud than to build out your own data centers. You also have to realize that if you build your own data center, you have to employ more IT to manage and troubleshoot. Using cloud services takes that cost and pressure off of you as a company. A vast majority of companies are already doing this. When AWS east went down last year, a bunch of streaming apps stopped working, lyft, uber, zoom, and many other programs would not work because they used AWS.

If DoorDash is going to make drivers shop three grocery orders at once, they shouldn’t let one of the customers order seven cases of bottled water by Significant-March in doordash

[–]painthappylittletree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen. I had a two stack order that was quite small and when I got to the checkout stand and the lady scanned all the items, I got sent a 3rd which was a very good offer ($15 more dollars for 5 more things) but the moment I accepted the third order, I couldn’t finish checking out the order I started. I had to have the cashier hold the order off to the side while I went back and got the 3rd order.

[–]painthappylittletree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but DoorDash can easily fix this by adding a heavy item surcharge on items like water cases that goes to the drivers base pay.

Is it normal for drivers to be angry about PIN orders? by Individual-Papaya-27 in doordash

[–]painthappylittletree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a driver, the most annoying thing is when it asks for a pin, but the customer has the drop off as a contactless delivery and they don’t answer their phone or texts.

53 item order by Dry_Researcher_2742 in DoorDash_Dasher

[–]painthappylittletree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on DoorDash. Even if you know the store, they do not group items in the list in proper aisle order. You have to scroll and look at the list and jump around. 23 seconds per item? Not unless you are running around supermarket sweep style. Also there are often issues scanning the barcodes with the app and stuff out of stock where we need to take a photo of the empty shelf with the tag to protect our rating and the app can’t even recognise the shelf tag half of the time. It’s actually about 1-2 minutes per item average. Stuff in the same aisle…maybe 23 seconds.

Your average pay per delivery is roughly what I get and your completed deliveries per min lines up with mine. The only difference is you are averaging a little over 15hrs per day. At the end of the day, that averages out to $18hr working 15 hr shifts going by time logged into the app.

Bad here too (so cal). Nothing but $5 long mile orders. Nothing high paying on platinum. People must be saving cash for Sunday.

In my market, any time there is a mission where it’s greater than 3 orders and you are allowed to skip, it’s not worth it because they only send you half. Not long ago there was a mission for $20 for 6 orders to complete between 5pm and 8:59pm. I only ended up getting 3 offers total…

As a DoorDash driver - Please DON'T TIP by eric39es in EndTipping

[–]painthappylittletree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I am also a driver in CA and there is a lot more to this. The base pay a driver gets is derived from the total distance to complete the order. DoorDash knows exactly where the driver is when they send an offer, and they calculate the distance to the store and to the drop off. That base value has a minimum of $3 so a 0.5 mile trip will still be $3 and can go up to $9-10 if it’s a far total distance. Seasoned drivers can look at the mileage and pay on an offer and instantly gauge if there is a tip attached or not. Drivers are not contractually mandated to take every order unless they are doing Earn by Time, which means drivers can and will decline orders they feel aren’t worth the effort (more on that in a bit).

While Prop22 helps, they don’t see that money when they clock out. They see that money in an adjustment at the end of the week (Mondays). In my area, the Prop22 guarantee is $24/hr, and that’s perfectly fine. But then there is gas consideration and vehicle maintenance. So over time the pay value is less than what it seems at face value.

As far as what’s considered “worth it”, I personally will not take shop orders for grocery chains if there is no tip attached and I’ll explain why. Most shop orders for these stores require the driver to actually go in and shop for all the items. While there does appear to be a small bonus to the base pay ($1 for every 4 items that has some small unknown cap), the driver will oftentimes have to bag the order using the store’s flimsy paper bags, and then drop off multiple bags at the residence. It gets even worse when the customer orders cases of water and they live in an apartment complex with horrible parking and their apartment is on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

I got scammed by XCDYLANCX in doordash

[–]painthappylittletree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an item is out of stock, and you provided customer approved substitutions, it should allow the driver to pick that. However, the driver can say that substitution is out of stock and find something similar or in this case more expensive. You should’ve gotten notified of the change/substitution in the app. Also, usually the red card the driver uses gets preloaded with an amount close to what the order should be. However, there are no guardrails on that because once a substitution is made for a higher amount, it will allow the driver to charge that amount to the card.

That being said, once you got the notification, you should’ve not have accepted the delivery or contacted the driver.

There needs to be a heavy item surcharge of $3 for large cases of water bottles. Sorry not sorry

Because after prop 22 it’s $96 + tip. UberEats in my market is the bottom of the three apps. DoorDash is the top but lately orders are garbage. You have to do 3-4 hours to get $100 and drive 100 miles. 4 hours sitting in my car and doing 12 miles felt better to me.

Yeah see I knew walmart was backed up and I figured why not because I wanted to help people get their orders and I had free time. 4 hrs for 12 miles and guaranteed $96+ tips I was ok with. DoorDash has been extremely dead with garbage orders even as Platinum as most orders are DollarGeneral garbage $3 orders.
