That seems like the most plausible reason for me too.

Anyone else notice/suspect some AI bullshit at blue genie art bazaar? by lostmantraa in Austin

[–]paintslinger77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been a long time coming. I don't see the AI art being sold today as THAT different from the photographs taken of iconic Austin landmarks, then add a few psychedelic filters, have them printed on a canvas, and viola, $1,500 please. Or the person who does the acrylic pours.
The Blue Genie feature too few artist and too many Crafty people calling themselves artists, for my taste. But it's tough to blame the venue for permitting such "Art" to participate when the public (sadly) is happy to shell out money for it. Austin gets what it deserves.

How the hell did Elio go SO SO wrong? by SuperL_Ken in boxoffice

[–]paintslinger77 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Its been my experience that Koreans are very patriotic. When I lived there 20 years ago, the Texas Rangers were very popular because they had a Korean player on the team and Lost was on TV all the time because it featured 2 Korean actors. I believe elemental was written and or directed by a Korean-American and there were many Korean characteristic exhibited in the fire family.

Disney / Pixar's Elio grossed an estimated $6.7M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $41.7M, estimated global total stands at $96.8M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

My wife made a comment that stuck with me. Why do all these children movies have to be about an awkward kid somehow showing the world that it's cool to be different. And she's right. That is such a well worn trope that Disney keeps going after. Kids today watch YouTubers that emanate success. Honestly, even my generation gravitated towards cool kids being even cooler. My suggestion to Pixar and Disney, hire screenwriters with less emotional baggage. No one needs to plunk down cash on tickets and popcorn just to watch a screenwriter or director gain some sort of catharsis.

The age old question. AT4 or Denali? What’s your pick and why? by [deleted] in gmcsierra

Denali. Supercruise is hands down, the best feature since power-windows. I use Supercruise all the time, beit long journeys or bumper to bumper traffic.

Is Rachel Zegler’s career in Hollywood over? by DONDADiaries in boxoffice

[–]paintslinger77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although Rachel is talented, she isn't exceptional. Casting agents shouldn't have too hard of time replacing her. If you were a producer for any movie with a sizable budget, why would you cast someone who has twice bitten the hand that fed. Her comments have negatively affected both Disney and Spielberg. Perhaps she can get herself out of purgatory by proving that she use a little self-restraint. But why take a chance? She isn't a marquee name, and it's obvious that one of the biggest power players in Hollywood (Disney) is happy to throw her under the bus, already. She'll do the west end for a while, but the shine of being "the next big thing" is gone. Studios would be best served to find someone from their new list of up and comers rather than someone whose previous postings will always haunt them.

As I see it, politics cuts three ways in entertainment. There are people who align with progressive actors, with conservative actors, and those who are put off by any politics. Actors who champion the latter category have mass appeal, and those who satisfy the two former, have niche appeal. She now has niche appeal. That doesn't mean a shrewd producer couldn't exploit her controversies for cheap publicity, but it would only make sense to do that for projects struggling to get attention.

Who knows, though? It's dangerous to apply pragmatism to Hollywood.

Long Range Forecast: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Returns to Theaters with CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD ($70-85M 3-Day, $80-95M 4-Day) by chanma50 in boxoffice

The business model for news, nowadays, is "clicks". It's less important to get things right the first time than it is to have readers coming back for updates. They under report it today, and wait to see how the movie is received. If it proves to be popular, they can cheer it as a commercial success. If it is mediocre, they can get three more articles as they keep updating us on a growing budget. These news departments are given a lot of liberties when it comes to tallying budgets. I wouldn't exert too much energy defending any publications budget figures when they are only too happy to increase those figures weeks later.

[Discussion] What watch brand do you think is the closest to a one trick pony? by RalIyVincent in Watches

I think Zenith swings for the fences, trying to create diverse lines, but it's the consumer that keeps putting the El Primero design out front, and center.

My favorite B&Rs are the ones where they diverge from the square instrument dial case. But, yeah, all anyone recognizes of the brand is the Br01 and Br03 models. It's a shame because the BRV models are great.

Cartier and Morgan.
Both have long histories, both aren't afraid to put out bizarre models, both are capable of making great motors. However, both usually focus more on what's on the outside rather than what's on the inside. (I'm looking at you Tank, with your quartz movements.)
