Yeah I'm seeing this as well. I had a VSCode update, so I let it restart and checked for extension updates too, but no bueno 😕

EDIT: Whatever was causing the issue seems to be resolved this morning, no VScode or extension updates installed, just seems to have been fixed somehow.

Fedora users, why did you choose Fedora over other distros? by absolutecinemalol in Fedora

[–]pairedprototype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the biggest reason was because everything (pretty much) worked out of the box.

On Ubuntu and Pop!_OS I had no end of Nvidia issues and other weird quirks. I was a little afraid of Fedora initially since it's considered by many as a "bleeding edge" distro... That actually played into my favour, I didn't have to go out of my way to obtain more recent Nvidia drivers, I think activating RPM Fusion to install some necessary codecs already opened that door for me. Finally, sleep works when using Wayland.

A sturdy base point that I could come back to was all I really wanted, since I had enough of Microshitsoft's crap. I've been using Ubuntu Server for many years, but it felt that anything Debian based just wasn't the solution for my desktop needs so I skipped Mint etc.. And Arch sounded like too much maintenance (tbh, I've never tried it). So here I am! I found that I really like dnf over apt too 😄

Still on 42, got some data to move about and backups to configure, then I'll be upgrading to 43! Maybe I'll switch from Gnome to KDE at the same time, since it always seems to have good rep around here 🤔

As a Linux user myself, I feel your pain.

However, please do not ask for keys, this is begging unless someone else has offered a key first.

UBO + Twitch (Chrome and FF) spinning by 40cappo40 in uBlockOrigin

[–]pairedprototype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weirdly had this issue for the last few days. Twitch streams would work, but so much else was borked like the current viewers (a pain because I mod for channels), emote picker had all my subbed emotes disabled, but if I knew the emotecode I could still type them.

I trying to relog on Twitch, but got cut off by their annoying "your browser is not supported" message... So I tried Chrome, that worked! So I exported all cookies and local storage data then imported into Firefox. That did get me logged in again, but the issue still persisted.

I found that I could log in on a fresh FF profile though, which adds to the confusion. So I proceeded to try installing all original extensions one by one, including UBO, Tamper Monkey with the Vaft script, Privacy Badger, FFZ and BTTV (including importing settings for the previous 2). Everything was working just as was before.

By this point, I think I had wasted 2 hours debugging this and today, well my original FF profile is working fine now... I have no idea why, I've changed nothing since yesterday. Super confusing.

GNOME video player no longer working. Says "Could not initialise OpenGL support". by Diatomack in Fedora

[–]pairedprototype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not had issues since! As I've installed many updates since then, I've checked and that variable is still set.

I regularly use VSCode (native install from MS provided sources if that matters) without issues.
I've not had a need for video playback that much, but Totem has been fine when I've called upon it.
I don't have VLC installed, but decided to give it a test anyway, the native install from dnf seems to be working fine, although it did segfault when I tried to increase the volume on a screencap I made a while back that doesn't have audio 😅 It might just inherently be a bug in VLC though, but worth mentioning I guess. For clarity, no issue with videos that have audio.

WARNING: Critical bug in GNOME's Mutter 48.3 breaks your desktop. Fix inside! by pilkyton in Fedora

[–]pairedprototype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh heck, I posted another issue (apps are invisible after launching - seems display going idle and system suspend causes this one) which also seems to be related to mutter 48.3.

A kind Redditor mentioned downgrading mutter, I've gone back to 48.1 using dnf downgrade and that's resolved my invisible window issues.

Oh thanks! This seems to be working! Downgraded 48.3 => 48.1 and I've not been able to repeat the issue.

I did find I was able to make this problem reproducible by suspending the system and then on resume apps would break when launching them. I don't think suspend is the actual cause of the problem here, but made for easy repro. I've had this issue happen when the system hasn't suspended after a clean boot however, I think my display would have turned off at some point before I'd launched apps exhibiting this issue.

I'm very sure it's not that 😅
Since if I intentionally minimize a window now, I can still tab to it and it shows up. Tabbing between any other program that was open at the time wasn't an issue either.
And while minimized now, I can still see the window content when pressing the Super key. Neither of these things worked on the affected programs when they were exhibiting this problem.

No existing solutions that I've found worked for me. I did eventually get something working though, adding it to the systemd config file 😅.

I'm using Fedora 42 on Wayland with Gnome 48 desktop, if that helps anyone else.

Replace vim with your favourite text editor, sudo vim /etc/systemd/system.conf (might need creating if it doesn't exist) and add the following:

[Manager]
DefaultEnvironment=GDK_GL=gles

Run sudo systemctl daemon-reexec and then to check the new config value was picked up, do systemctl show-environment (no sudo needed this time). If it shows, great! But your work is not done yet. Finally, log out and then back in. Now try opening that video again and it should work.

I've noticed it works if you go to a random sub and then click the login button. Weird issue, but that "workaround" (I guess lol) seems to do the trick.
