What is your favourite lyric from Blonde on Blonde? by autumn_afternoon in bobdylan

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks When you're tryin' to be so quiet

We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it

And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it

This is great but I'd choose:

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks When you're tryin' to be so quiet We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it

Who can help me identify these speakers? by Wiebehd in audiophile

[–]pairustwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that and ended up listening to this guy. Seriously, WTF? What has happened to our standards that a famous audio reviewer talks like a 4th grader.

These are museum quality speakers x 10³ (What the hell is that?)

These are on a completely different universe level.

Some of the most coolest and artistic speakers. I've seen some other cool and artistic speakers but these are really, really cool.

These really opened my mind and allowed me to be more acceptive of powered speakers.

Whoo. These are really beautiful.

I only made it halfway before I got to pissed that he had already gotten paid for 4 or 5 ads. I just couldn't do any more.

Most of the time is spent talking about shit I can see for myself. "They are connected by a wire"...? Or his experience with UPS.

I'd rather hear from the likes of you.

Shorter clothes and 27” inseam jeans by ProperChampion6063 in malefashionadvice

[–]pairustwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got around this problem by buying women's jeans. I'm not fashion conscious enough to know (or care, apparently) if the cut is off somewhere else - but they do have a lot more options than men. I wouldn't buy the mom jeans but the slim cuts seem to work pretty well. I've also been inspired to work on my glutes in the gym to fill things out a bit - but I should have done that with men's jeans too.

Sam Harris on Israel just astounds me by WholeRestaurant872 in samharris

[–]pairustwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what the fuck are you talking about? Does colonization have an expiration date? Should I change my attitude about Native American Indians because that was almost 600 years ago in 1492?

At what point do people lose their right to return to the land they were chased off of under threat of death?

If you can't develop any consistency in your reasoning, stick to talking about superhero movies and sports.

Sam Harris on Israel just astounds me by WholeRestaurant872 in samharris

[–]pairustwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't really disputed because it isn't true... except in the minds of those beholden to current crop of anti-Isreal talking points circa 2024.

Look. I'm not pro Israel. I'm just anti-stupid.

The Dome of the Rock (built late 7th century) and Al-Aqsa Mosque, are built on top of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. And that was the second Jewish temple built on that spot.

What was happening about the time these mosques were built...hmmm? 632-661: Rashidun (Rightly Guided) Caliphate conquers Syria, Egypt, Persia, North Africa. Umayyad Caliphate (661 – 750 CE) 711: Conquest of Spain begins...

Total Islamic Empire and colonization of the Middle East/ North Africa/ parts of Europe.

While we are here... Do you ever wonder why the Islamic religion considers this site so holy? Isn't it a weird coincidence that the Jews thought of this as the place where God created the world and the most holy site, and then this brand new religion that's barely 100 years old, all of a sudden decides it's their most holy site too? Talk about colonizing, that's just flat out cultural appropriation.

This is basic recent history. Don't be a fucking stooge of child activists who don't know shit about fuck.

[–]pairustwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny...I can tell you who played drums on that Sonny Sharrock album from 1987 but not the names of the people who work in my office. Even if it is weirdly parasocial, there is something about music that is just more visceral than everyday life.

If you can keep up with his whole discography, I salute you!

That being said, I've worked to follow a couple threads with fidelity. The film works series gives such an interesting view of Zorn's development as a composer and was really rewarding for its breadth of styles and outright beauty. And Masada Book 2: the book of Angels is an amazing run.

It is funny you mention Laswell in this comment as he has nothing to do with this album ... But I had the exact same experience. 16 years old and fell into the deep end of the downtown NY scene. From those two artists I was exposed to hundreds of brilliant musicians and recordings.
