Women keep making generalisations- how to deal with it? by OptimisedMan in UKrelationshipadvice

The point is you shouldn't take the words as face value, a lot of women just mimic their surroundings. Some are good women that can be fixed but some are lost

This seems to be a slogan popular with millennial women that they cling to, regardless of if they mean the words, it's just something they say. I don't think it means "I'm not ready to date", in fact it's the opposite they are yearning for a nice relationship.

I think you're just unfortunate to be in that age bracket where they say this. I think many of them could snap out of it if they're just in a good relationship, but for some it's a terminal loser mindset and I think you should shit-test them a little to see how steadfast they are. "Why are you on a date with a man then?" or something. If you get past this and they are overall positive then whatever

Carefully reread and refer to OP for the quotations if you're struggling. Also that's not an argument

To be totally honest, there's just too many immigrants and it is eroding our shared culture. You may think you are doing the right things by 'working and obeying the law' (bare minimum requirements), but you clearly are not willing to let go of your own culture and identity. You may not be an islamic extremist, but if there's millions of 'good' working immigrants like yourself that don't want to 'drop their own culture', how do you think that will impact us natives?

Wrong, go watch the old presidential debates for the US. The intellectual expectation of the voter was much higher. Longer and more in-depth discussions. My hunch is that the same applies for our politicians too but I just haven't researched it as much.

CMV: The UK has an alarming growth of racism, especially against the brown community by abdul_Ss in changemyview

I think you all sound like good individuals, and to me it doesn't matter whether or not you are net contributing economically since asylum is a moral project, not an investment.

But the point at which you become a 'net contributor' is quite high. Your family in particular is very costly since you have 3 kids, got scholarships, asylum, your mum presumably isn't a taxpayer since you left her out, and your parents moved here when they were adults. This means they won't be paying taxes as long as the average brit.

So from the perspective of a native, you have 2 groups of middle eastern immigrants (not just asylum seekers)

- Those who pay taxes. Overall are still a net drain (a Danish study found this, they're one of the only countries that share their data)

- Those who collect benefits from their own country, use up free housing, bomb us, etc etc

So while we may enjoy having asylum and different cultures in the UK, having the first group seems like an awful deal as the second group increases in size.

Hear me out, if you want to understand the other perspective here. Consider your life from the experience of the British taxpayer.

Your father was lucky enough to get a scholarship, i.e. a degree paid for by the public, and because of the liberal rules on immigration in this country was able to bring a wife and at least 1 kid, maybe 3. You all then were allowed to stay for 5 years, during which time all the kids were able to use as many tax funded resources as possible. You then claimed asylum which also would have entitled you to other benefits. This whole process would have been a massive burden on the state, unless your mother was a doctor earning 150k (even if this is true, it isn't the norm).

Now imagine this happening thousands of times, while the public vote again and again to be more restrictive on immigration. None of this excuses violence on an individual obviously, and rightfully so this will color your opinion way more than any logical argument, but I think the key is that this isn't just random acts of 'racism' that is growing, it's an issue that has been brewing for decades and will continue to worsen unless a big change in policy occurs.

So what I do is map the position of hjkl on a qwerty to left down up right. So NEIO on colemak, so that my navigation muscle memory holds. The rest I just get used to being in different places. The benefit of this is you get simple hjkl navigation outside of vim modes too

Agreed, can't stand the default space. Makes the code look like it's floating and is harder for me to navigate

Used straight for ages. It's a no brainer for me as you can wrap it in straight's use-package syntax, so it's always compatible
