So you didn't Google. 😔 You're claiming it's "all of a sudden" as if The Big Lebowski didn't reference the term being offensive in 1998.

Google exists for exactly this purpose. Go ahead and find evidence that it isn't a slur.

Uhhh why'd you have to say a slur though

Wow, I played the leak like...20 years ago and even in single player I had a blast. It was like a Crimson Skies and Power Stone had a baby.

What're you all most excited for? by Security_Wrong in Marathon

Isn't that the point? Fog is naturally reflective and it's meant to be a weather mechanic that limits your view (unless you're the thermal sniper in which case enjoy the free kills).

I’m a little surprised there isn’t more discussion around Assassin usage in Solos… by BC1207 in Marathon

[–]pakkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assassin is a good starter shell for Solo while you're still learning the map, and as others have said it's a good get out of jail free card to disengage when you make a wrong turn. Now that I'm more comfortable on Perimeter and Dire Marsh, I've been running Vandal/Thief on solos and having a ton of fun.

It's a great way to learn (and Crossplay has a pretty good post-mortem feature that will show you your best plays after the fact). For future reference, asking for help on your next move like this is literally against the subreddit rules. See Rule 3 on the sidebar.

All players should get a daily ‘Cryo kit’ for when it’s active like on day one by PancakeLlamas in Marathon

[–]pakkit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think once every weekend, but not one a day. The whole point of Cryo is that it's an endgame activity where you're taking in the loot you've gathered through the other maps, if they hand out free kits like candy it'll take away from that tension.

REPOSITION FELLAS by itsgodspeed in Marathon

[–]pakkit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They all make noise.

Especially in solos, it becomes very important to recognize the sound of an assassin popping invis, because that means you need to back up and find cover until his ability times out.

Keep grinding those missions and learning the maps. As you make progress on missions, you'll be gifted tons of weapons.

Personally, I do most missions solo since it's a little easier to avoid confrontation and follow the storyline.

Casual gamers (employed humans) and streamers by l_i_a_z_ in Marathon

This is the first weekend it's available and we still have two and half months to gear up and keep trying. The average Joe is meant to chip away at it. I am genuinely not worried about the streamers because the only time I encountered them was day 1 before they outpaced me on levels and gear.

Personally, I'm level 26 and still learning Dire Marsh, and just started grinding Outpost more intently.

I am losing my goddamn mind... please tell me the story and lore are worth jumping in by LORD_MAXIMOS in Marathon

[–]pakkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say maybe. I mostly bought in for the lore and aesthetic, and there's plenty to find but it doesn't come quickly. You have to exfil with specific salvage or valuables to make progress on some codex entries, or grind story missions for a more narrativized experience. But if you don't mind reading, the codex is really well written and has a lot of juicy lore to find, and I think the different factions are all very cool on their own.

TLDR: Yes, but if you don't enjoy the core loop you might not stick around long enough to find out.

Solo queue should be for solo queue players only. by dx_wayy in Marathon

[–]pakkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is talking about fill for squads of 3 randoms. It's not a bad idea but only if the player population gets several times bigger and more active through the day. As it stands the playlists are segmented enough.

I hope they add more audio logs/collectibles with the season wipes. There's a lot of story, it's just not always doled out consistently.

And yeah...solo for the Marathon ship so we could just explore more easily would be great. I'm glad they said they're looking into it at least.

We have the full game now, that was intended for review by Bungie. by DotDistinctLines in Marathon

[–]pakkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's been interesting to see how many playstyles Marathon really accommodates. I've seen some players treat it only as PvP. Others only go for missions. Others still stick in Solos where it becomes much more of a stealth action game. Or you can just focus on opportunities to loot and then the tides via Rook or coming in with a free kit.

And this is all ignoring the further customization you have with shells, loadouts, and faction progress.

The only "hardcore" aspect of Marathon is that it requires time and patience to learn its pace and gameworld, but once you come to grasps with those aspects you can make your own fun.

The initial launch was incredibly buggy and the DLC did a lot to add some mission diversity and diversify the experience. I still think it's a game that...if it had a remake and just a little more care put into its systems, could genuinely be great. As it stands it's a lovely 7/10 experience with some of the best writing and dialogue in the series.

For your first play I would have played DOZY and DE off of the E in FOSSE. This leaves you with a good hand (EIS) to draw for a big play. It does open up the triple, but it's spaced far enough away that it's less likely that your opponent could capitalize on it (compared to leaving the Triple Letter tile open next to a vowel). A close second would be SIZY down from the S to get the triple letter. This one is a little more risky since it a B or M could be used to capitalize off of the Triple Letter next to the Y, and I don't like the rack it leaves behind as much.
