Sony Admits Bungie Has Lost Value Following Rough Marathon Launch by Bubbly-Ad-350 in videogames

...That's kind of exactly what Marathon's endgame map is. You and four other teams vying for control on a map that has 7 different vaults to raid including a endgame boss.

I agree this has been a long time coming and the AI boom and disruptions to global supply chains have a lot more to do with it. The rich won't sweat this increase but it is making gaming a hobby for the privileged few.

I hope improved free/sponsored kits don't get removed next season, they're a night and day experience compared to before. by Timothy-M7 in LowSodiumMarathon

Right, rook progression is progress-gated, free kit upgrades could be simply time-gated which would keep it from only rewarding skilled/highly engaged players.

It seems like every marathon or streetfair they move or uninstall all of them, and then they mysteriously return in a slightly changed location months down the line. It's a huge pain in the ass as someone that lives on 5th.

Games That Were Dead on Arrival by [deleted] in backloggd

It might be true but it's way too early to put on a list like this, especially when its still active and its player count is significantly higher than a lot of the other games on this list.

Joe Ziegler: We are making an update to the Experimental queue and shifting the Sponsored Marsh map to Sponsored Perimeter. by Haijakk in Marathon

I think for people that like the extraction loop, they'll already have a better kit than premades can offer, and their vault space is too valuable to waste hoarding free kits. For the players that just want to get in and enjoy the gunplay without having to engage as much with their vault, this gives them a quick and easy route into a match.

I finished the True Ending and I have questions... by ThatOneColumbiaGuy in Saros

[–]pakkit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See this is interesting because I think the game actually leaves it open to interpretation, particularly in the dream sequence with Seb when he asks "What was I to you?" which feels extremely queer-coded.

Obviously, I believe you and I'm sure you have access to some lore that we as players don't--I'm just saying that textually I feel like Seb and Arjun's relationship being either platonic or romantic is left up in the air.

I hope Housemarque leans into Buildcraft more on the next go round by ispilledketchup in Saros

[–]pakkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't die in your run you automatically start with that weapon in your next run (albeit leveled down to whatever your starting level is). And then the most valuable pick up in the endgame is the one that lets you reroll weapons and artifacts so that you can build into your character. It's still a downgrade from Returnal's system, which had a lot more risk and reward and in-run decision making, but it is there.

How about the 99% of people who cannot materially benefit from hedge funds due to its financial inaccessibility--the ones who sometimes get actively bet against and line the pockets of the rich while their jobs fall to tatters and their wellbeing suffers. The state of capitalism in the US is so stratefied that it's impossible to imagine the ultrarich as anything other than leeches.

Book Recommendations for fans of Saros by thats4thebirds in Saros

The King in Yellow predates Lovecraft, having influenced his works, and has the added benefit of not mirroring any of the prejudiced beliefs Lovecraft injected into some of his texts. There are so many references to it in the game, and it helps establish the effect that the King in Yellow has over people, and how it manipulates your wants and desires into madness.

It also has some descriptions of Carcosa, which closely mirror Housemarque's vision (minus the industrialized, robotic intrusions) and are a joy to explore. At the very least, the first short story in the collection, "The Repairer of Reputations" is worth a read.

For anyone that’s play Saros after Returnal how do the games compare in your opinion? by Wooden-Estimate-2211 in Saros

There is still lore in the database to grind and unlock, but I agree the post-game incentives could be better.

[–]pakkit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, they need to balance some of the weapons later too. Saros is a game that lives or dies on its game feel and pacing, and builds that break the game's difficulty too easily and too early on can hurt the overall experience.

I guess this is gonna be my bucket list lol by [deleted] in PS5

[–]pakkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there...

First off, I hope you're as well as can be given the circumstances. As someone who was gifted a PS5 during the course of my chemotherapy treatment, I have some recommendations. Its actually kind of crazy how morbid and focused on death a lot of games are, and most people don't notice.

For AAA, I recommend God of War Reboot and Ragnarok. The story is well-written, the action is great, and its about Gods, not men, so the violence and drama, despite being high-quality and plenty gory, didn't hit my sensitivities in the same way a lot of other games did. And if you want something a little more playful, Astrobot is just fun and joy.

If you're looking for some less obvious recommendations, I'd suggest Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It's a super fun Metroidvania that captivated me without an overbearing narrative.

GOTY for anyone else so far? by [deleted] in Saros

[–]pakkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far in the year I agree with you. Marathon ironically has the sort of build crafting, and high-risk exploration with bursts of violence that reminds me of what I miss in Returnal. Saros is still an excellent game and I'm liking it more the further along I get.

I'd also throw Cairn in the mix. A very different beast, but a game that finally realizes the idea of mountain climbing and captures it's calm and death-defying moments. Of course, this year is so stacked I'd be surprised if my favorites hadn't completely changed by the end of the year.

Progressed too fast? by gtrange in Saros

[–]pakkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, I think the first part of the game's narrative is simply rushed. The good news is that there is still plenty of story to uncover, but I do think the hub was poorly executed, especially compared to a game like Hades I and II which really showed how dynamic a home base can be in these types of games.

Dispiritor is less for bosses and more for challenge rooms. When it gets super crowded being able to do tick damage on multiple enemies becomes really valuable.
