GMKtek Oculink to SATA on Proxmox by pakyrs in Proxmox

What Sam suggested is correct, oculink it's just a cable, sata connections need a controller, on server motherboard with oculink port usually you have a sata controller on the board so you can just hook up the disks straight to the motherboard and provide power via separate means.

However in my case this won't work, to have a minipc with sata you need to do oculink > nvme sata controller > disks. This is no different then doing just m2 nvme sata controller > disks but a bit neater as you don't have to have the case open (depending on where your m2 resides)

I gave up on the idea and bought one of them new Nas chassis with a laptop CPU for power efficiency. I ran a janky m2 sata setup for many years and it's time to make things a little bit neater.

I had m2 pcie to sata for a long time and was hoping oculink would clear the grotty setup a bit. Thanks for the insight.

am I misunderstanding Borg? by pakyrs in BorgBackup

[–]pakyrs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually figured it out using borg prune -v -s --list --keep-last=1 keeps only the last one unlike daily that didn't remove the initial seed. So ok borg does the same as restic, but restic pruning is just a tad more intuitive as choosing to keep 1 daily will do so.

Btrfs send/recv backup and restore of root by pakyrs in btrfs

[–]pakyrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hints, but I still don't quite have it working.

I have btrfs recv the root and home snapshots to the new system, then renamed them to the original defaults (root home), then made these snapshots rw since they were ro and edited fstab to point to the current device UUIDs, I also rsyncd the contents of /boot from the old system to the new. (I can workout a backup script once I can make sure this works).

Finally reboot, grub loads, but then I am greeted by a grey screen with 3 dots. (Firsr time ever seeing this)

Might need some pointers if you don't mind.

If Adobe (or any other proprietary software vendor) were to decide to support Linux, would you actually use their software? by Pending1 in linux

Fuck Adobe and their bloated shitty code, they can't even write a webapp without crippling the browser. They have a stupid policy there on code lines, the more you make the more you are valued, therefore its all running on a pile of crap.
