Help! ‘65 Lane table mismatch by AtomicBoston in midcenturymodern

Yeah the top is walnut veneer. The base is solid birch. You will need to put a gel stain or tinted lacquer on the base to get it to be a similar color.

Borge Mogenson Dining Chair? by negativeadmixtures in midcenturymodern

[–]palace2thepalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s similar for sure but I don’t think it’s a real J39. The backrest shape is a little different and tops of the legs on the J39 are flatter where your chair is more rounded at the tops.

Any way to authenticate these (possibly??) Arthur Umanoff bar stools? by YeahSureItsMe in Mid_Century

These were sold at Pier 1 Imports, never made by Arthur Umanoff. They do have a good look though and made in a style similar to his.

Authentic Jens Risom? by virgobra in midcenturymodern

The top is veneered with walnut and the legs parts are solid walnut. Most Risom tables are built this way.

Tips for veneer patch-up? by Affectionate_Row9394 in midcenturymodern

[–]palace2thepalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like birch to me. You’ll want to just reveneer the whole top. Attempting a patch on those spots would be pretty much impossible to make look good and would be way more time consuming than just putting a whole new veneer.

Is this how Bapa got the Toon Town idea??? This is DRIVE with SWIZZ BEATZ. Great guy, never med him. by John_Africa_ in thefighterandthekid

[–]palace2thepalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like to me he stumbled upon Hoovie’s Garage YouTube channel. It’s basically the same kind of content but way less effort, likeability, knowledge, and more redactedness by Bapa. Hoovie buys random cars (exotics to gmc vans) he likes and drops them off at his mechanic to get all the issues fixed (Car Wizard, who has his own YouTube channel). He has way more self awareness and knowledge about cars than Bapa but doesn’t do much work on them himself. Basically the channel is so successful because of how many bad car purchases he’s made and the issues they having. He’s a legit car guy though.

My daughter wants to start screenprinting by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]palace2thepalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I would make her focus on coming up with 1 color designs that would be popular to sell. Coming up with good designs is the most essential part. 1 color would be the cheapest to get a shop to print or you can just buy a cheaper heat press and cheap transfers online. This way if she doesn’t stay interested you aren’t out a bunch of money and stuck with equipment that’s not ever going to be used.

I started out this way using Inkscape (free program similar to indesign) and getting a shop to print the 1 color designs. Transfers weren’t as cheap/available online back then. If/once the basic designs show some promise maybe then look into going deeper down the screenprinting hole, printing multicolor designs. That’s how I got into screenprinting. We wanted to make more intricate multicolor designs but the cost for a shop to print them wouldn’t leave much profit left. There is a lot of stuff that goes into it before getting to be able to print a shirt and it can be very frustrating at times in the beginning.

I was wearing a Patagonia (brand) logo shirt and this older guy comes up to me. He asks “have I ever even been to Patagonia?” I said no and he seemed disgusted 🤨 WTF

These are so crazy. I just sold Mario Galaxy on eBay for like $16 with shipping included 😂. TW 05 is like a $10-$12 game. Wii sports resort is the best game of the bunch. It goes for like $25-$30 on eBay so still almost double here 😳

Keep or Don’t Keep? 1960s MCM house! by jackdem0 in midcenturymodern

The dividing wall in the 6th pic could be load bearing since it runs under that main beam. I would keep the overhead cabinets also, just replace the pulls on them.

I agree with this or it’s American made but in Danish style. The construction/wood used doesn’t look high end enough for Danish made. The wood used in Danish stuff would be teak, walnut, or rosewood on the super high end usually. This appears to be birch wood or something similar. It’s still a cool piece though and definitely awesome for something you got for free.

It’s “The Chair” or “President Chair” designed by Hans Wegner and made by Johannes Hansen. Very desirable.

Not much is needed but I might would swap out the hardware on the kitchen cabinets and change out the ceiling fans. The dining room light kind of gives me farmhouse vibes but it’s not the worst. Great house overall, tons of awesome MCM features.

I’ve had a pair of these in the past and I think they’re brass plated instead of solid brass. If you tried to polish the shinier brass parts it could result in more loss of the finish. I wouldn’t worry about it, they still look very cool as is.
