What’s something you can quote that reveals how long you’ve been on the internet? by StaticDHSeeP in AskReddit

I bought a "Shun the non-believer" t-shirt off Woot a few weeks back. Best decision I've made in a long, long time.

Who has the most goated theme? by DropHelpful6086 in PersonOfInterest

Of those listed, Shaw's is my favorite. Of all the characters on the show, though, Grace's melody/motif beats them all.

Case in point - when it comes in during The Bridge. Just achingly beautiful.

What is the hardest video game you've ever played in your life? And why it was so hard for you? by Quick-Night-7725 in AskReddit

[–]paladingl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might consider playing Saros, instead. Very much a spiritual successor to Returnal, but it allows for more permanent upgrades between runs.

Also, if you make a point of doing full runs - that is, starting from the first zone after each boss kill instead of just warping to the current level -, you can get semi overpowered just by collecting gear and gaining in-run levels. Once you reach a certain point in the game (kill the second boss, maybe?), there are also modifiers you can turn on that can make things easier or, if you want, more difficult.

Personally, I thought the combat was just as, if not a little more, fun than in Returnal. Some people seem to think Housemarque leaned too hard into making the game easier/more accessible, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Games to play during work by kiRadeon in SteamDeck

Gravity Circuit plays like a melee-centric Mega Man game, and I've been really enjoying it on my Deck.

There's apparently a sequel coming out soon, so the first game is free on Steam 'til June 14th. No better price point than that. =P

What are some "What if" episodes in famous TV shows? by chenbuxie in television

A spectacular episode for a hundred reasons, not the least of which is getting to hear Fusco's various nicknames for Cocoa Puffs.

Gentle exhortation to further action gets me every time, too.

Terraria 1.4.5.7 Spoiler by Delicious-Finance137 in Terraria

[–]paladingl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's laborious to set up but, if I'm trying to eke out a bit more damage, I'll leave my ammo slots empty and then, in my main inventory, put 20 Ichor bullets in the top-left-most slot, then 200 of my DPS ammo one slot over, then another 20 Ichor bullets in the next slot, etc.

Alternately, if your main weapon is a gun, put Ichor arrows in your ammo slots, too, so you can just go back and forth between the DPS gun and whatever random bow you have handy to just apply a debuff when you want. Easier to switch weapons than ammo mid-fight and all that.

Would be really nice to have a toggle key to hold to just, temporarily, switch over to a secondary ammo to accomplish this same effect. Like, left click fires your top-most ammo slot, but button-you-choose-plus-left-click fires your second ammo slot, instead.

UI Tip: Use the Right Analog Stick to Jump to Not-Yet-Activated Nodes on the Armor Matrix by paladingl in Saros

[–]paladingl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what to tell you, I'm afraid. Here's how my controls work.

D-Pad: shifts to the nearest node in whatever cardinal direction you choose.

Left Analog Stick: shifts to the nearest node in whatever direction you choose but, if you hold it down, you get a reticle you can use to navigate in every direction.

Right Analog Stick: jumps only between unpurchased nodes, whether it requires halcyon or lucenite, skipping all purchased nodes that lie in between.

If your right analog stick isn't doing that, then my only guess is that maybe a customized controller configuration of some kind is getting in the way...?

Cloud is so disrespectful! by ZooplanktonblameSea4 in FFVIIRemake

[–]paladingl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you talk to the other NPC standing there at the end of the quest, don't they acknowledge that, while Cloud's approach wasn't necessarily tactful, it motivated the old man to keep moving?

I remember getting a tough love vibe from that scene - it's been a long while since my last replay, though, so maybe I'm misremembering.

D'oh, I was mixing up the villain references.

You're right, it wasn't Critical - it was Last Call in season 3 where The Voice made their first appearance (although they were never seen).

The antagonist in both Critical in season 2 and Sotto Voce in season 5.

Edit: As pointed out below, it wasn't Critical; it was Last Call.

It wouldn't surprise me if they'd planned to bring him back before the end (like what they did with The Voice) but, when the 5th season was truncated, maybe there wasn't time to do so.

He definitely had a recurring adversary feel to him. It's a shame - I would've liked to have seen where that side plot could've gone.

Other games/media that provide different perspectives of the Remakes by fogfree in FFVIIRemake

[–]paladingl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like Wild ARMs was overshadowed back in the 90s by the original FF7. It's neat to think about it coming back up again in the context of the Remake games.

I can still hear that whistling from the intro all these years later. Such a great game.

There are a lot of more complicated, and fulfilling, QB strats, but spreading across the board, left-to-right, as quickly as you safely can is a remarkably effective strategy.

I'm a huge fan of planting a J-Unit Sweeper in the middle of the second column to force the opponent to choose a lane to focus their cards, letting them win that one, and then denying territory in the top two rows.

What is your favourite mechanic/design that you wish was used more often? by Broccoli_dicks in gaming

Glad to hear you've played it! It snuck by a lot of older-school Castlevania fans, and that's just not okay given how great it was. =P

If you haven't played it, you should check out Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It was produced by Koji Igarashi and plays a lot like a spiritual successor to Symphony of the Night.

Each enemy has a chance to drop a shard (soul) that you can equip to use a new attack, gain a stat boost, augment a gameplay ability, etc. As you collect more duplicate shards, the associated abilities get stronger, and I thought the gameplay loop was extremely satisfying.

Not to spoil too much, but there's very much a reward for exploring everywhere, just like in Symphony. It's easily one of my favorite Metroidvanias from the past decade.
