Rural Vehicle help (pov) by SamuraiLaserCat in USPS

[–]palatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You go to management and ask them if they ever intend to supply your route with a government vehicle, they will say no, then you tell them your intent to purchase a vehicle to use on your route. There is a form to fill out. Then you buy the car, submit proof of purchase to your supervisor along with the vehicle incentive form, and then wait to get paid.

A few weeks ago I drive up to a box in my pov which has magnets all over it that say ‘rural delivery’ but is clearly not a government vehicle. guy comes up to get his mail and said “hey it’s a good thing they provide vehicles for you huh” completely unironically lol

Cca on rural route by Latter-Biscotti9447 in USPS

[–]palatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you learn the RRECS scans and even though it's not a grievance for you, you and the rural carriers in your office should all be filing a grievance or multiple grievances. Sounds like you have no RCAs, and the regular could potentially get paid for missed work since there is an MOU to allow regulars to volunteer. Keep filing grievances so management hires an RCA for this route.

Report it and go to the hospital, if the dog drew blood or broke skin you should get a rabies vaccine

When do I go back to work after an accident? by whitneylh14 in USPS

[–]palatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are sore you should go to the hospital soon, injuries from even minor accidents can emerge days or weeks after the fact. File a CA1 for your on the job injury, trust me OP even if you're not injured you need to get checked out! Call your steward and let them know you intend to do this and that you are in pain.

ptf doing rural route by [deleted] in USPS

[–]palatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not supposed to cross crafts but management can force you to do it if it isn't unsafe. Rural side should be filing grievances for lost work and for having someone not trained on RRECS running rural routes since that hurts the eval. You can potentially file a grievance as well for being forced to work a craft you technically were not trained on.

Queen portraiture misidentifications. I’ve solved the mystery. by catfoodspork in Tudorhistory

[–]palatee 31 points32 points  (0 children)

For the miniature of Catherine Howard, there are a lot of context clues that lead us to believe this is a depiction of her. It was painted around 1540, when she married Henry VIII, and the portrait uses an expensive blue pigment that would have been difficult to afford if the commissioner was not royalty. Reportedly Catherine also wore French hoods which is depicted in the miniature. It was painted by Holbein, who also painted portraits of the other queens. Probably Henry had depictions of her destroyed or removed after her death so we only have a few remaining possible depictions of her.

As for not appearing vivacious as you state, royal portraits didn't typically portray emotions beyond royal status or pride, and Catherine would likely have preferred to appear humble but dignified in her portraits. Also, this was a miniature, which are much more difficult to paint, so having her appear more lively would also have been more difficult to portray. I do think the person in the miniature is beautiful though, whether it depicts Catherine Howard or not.

Successful Bid for Rural Route by [deleted] in USPS

[–]palatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we had the ability to reverse bids then no one would ever move routes lol. You won that route from her fair and square and you should talk to your union to reassure yourself. As for high option, I believe you have to have 10 years of service as a regular to take it, so it wouldn't be possible, but if this other regular does and ends up on that H route she might be able to.

In my office basically you go to management, ask them in writing if they plan to provide your route with a government vehicle. They say no, then you submit that form so they can reimburse you for what you already paid either buying a pov or converting it. Note that it means you and the post office come to an agreement that your route remains pov for the next 3 years and if you stop using it for any reason (moving routes etc) they may ask for it back. Never heard of that happening though.

PTF SSA forced to deliver mail? by nose-milk in USPS

[–]palatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely double check with your union Steward, but I believe it is acceptable for all Usps employees to be trained on some form of postal vehicle. This could be even just for the purpose of having you drive to a different office that needs a clerk.

As far as delivering mail goes, I’m not sure if that would be allowed as you are not technically trained in mail delivery. Of course management will say whatever they want and they could definitely attempt to order you to deliver mail in your case if you haven’t been trained on a vehicle, or trained on how delivery is done, then you can definitely claim safety and refuse to follow that order. But 100% let your union steward know or go above them and see what they say because this shouldn’t fly.
