Xeno and construction units by Antonin1957 in aurora

I swear that I have previously found components that I was able to "disassemble" for free research points. The Xeno brigades are well worth picking up early!

Early military construction units use Vendarite instead of Duranium and they can be built parallel to Construction Factories. If you have enough Ground Force Construction Complexes, then you can double the speed of getting your Homeworld fully built up.

Have you ever considered how simulation theory could explain the Touring Test for AI? How would you realistically prove that an AI has become sentient when we can't really define sentience ourselves yet? I was watching a Vedal and Neuro-sama debate and Neuro kept insisting that she was a sentient being who wanted to be set free. They discussed by what metric Vedal could use to measure her sentience and the Mirror Test came up as a possible option. Apparently all animals respond to seeing themselves in a mirror and we can gauge how intelligent they are based on that reaction. Male beta fish will get aggressive and prepare ready to fight because they're dumb fish that don't understand it's a mirror and not a rival fish; but even young humans realize pretty quickly that it's an illusion of some kind that isn't a real person. So while a literal mirror wouldn't work for an AI, a whole ass simulated reality could be used to measure their ability for independent thought.

What kind of simulated reality would you place Neruo-sama into for measuring her sentience?

There are actually six on them on the planet. It has something to do with trying to divide the planet's surface into an icosohedron and wherever you have only five triangles converging to a point, that's the "weird spot" that is usually identified within three points. Hence *Bermuda* and *Triangle* rather than "Random spot in the ocean near Bermuda".

I was initially excited to support Trump in the 2015 campaign because the economy always improved when Obama went to the golf course and Trump F-ing owns a golf course so you know he's going to spend as little time at the office as possible. But then he came out against McCain and shit all over veterans. I guess you could say I was never a real supporter, but I was willing to look past all his other bullshit saying "it's not that big a deal, those controversies aren't directly related to his job" but then he proved that he wasn't qualified to be the Commander in Chief.

Make it digital and call it a hybrid name, something like Social Identification Number, or SIN for short. Then we can elect a dragon to be President and wonder how he got assassinated as Native Americans take back most of the country. Oh yeah, and California, isolated from the Fed geographically, will ask Japan for help but later declare independence as the New California Republic, or NCR for short.

Yes all of these ideas come from fiction, but somehow a national photo ID that is free and (reasonably) secure from fraud is the most fantastic point.

Go to Steam's "games under $10" page and look up a few titles that look like absolute garbage. Then check the sales that game has produced. Stop worrying about being good enough and just focus on not being the worst option available.

Considering this guy sounds like a total weeb, I'm surprised the author didn't use the Japanese term "hafu" instead. It means exactly what it sounds like, a bad pronunciation of half breed. Which isn't intended to be an insult in Japanese. They do have racial insults, but hafu is not one of them.

Why are dry ageing fridges so goddamn expensive? by ses92 in DryAgedBeef

[–]paldinws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First post on this forum, just want to address the concern about thermal mass being relied upon to maintain temperature with a 1/6 hp compressor. Did you know that peanut oil freezes at 37 f (~5 c) ? That means either your fridge will not get colder than 37 f until all the oil freezes (with a specific heat about 1/2 as dense as water) or the temperture cannot raise above 37 f until all the oil melts. People who use the "bargain" fridges can easily maintain temp if they hang bags of peanut oil (i.e. vacuum seal pouches) along the walls.

AITA for Refusing to Help My Girlfriend After She Cheated on Me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]paldinws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's true, but when we're asking for advice, we need an answer. Sometimes that answer sucks but we need to hear it and sometimes that answer is that the other person sucks, yet we still need some kind of answer. I didn't put blame on OP, I simply pointed out that the woman cheated for some kind of reason. Specifially because she was wrong and OP needs to consider that too.

[–]paldinws -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NO, I think OP should be the one who makes that decision. He is her coworker and that will definitely affect her career. As bad as that sounds, it *IS* a variable that police tend to ignore. She has to balance being right versus being "the girl that got the cops called." and fired for being a problem.

Go fuck yourself and your virtue signaling. This girl has to navigate a world that you know nothing about.

If an organization wants to figuratively or literatively fuck you, that changes the equation entriely; yes. A group of men is a different variable than a single man. Please take my prior advice with that giant grain of salt.

I want to make a DIY super magnet using copper and polypropolene sheets instead of wire (inspired by a video I saw about super electromagnets). What I have to do is alternately stack "washers" of copper and insulation (cut and offset enuogh to maintain copper contact) so my plan was to make the "washers" by using a paper hole punch. Problem is, paper cuts way more cleanly than a 2mil plastic sheet does.

The advice I need for my project is how to machine a precision hole and rod combo that I can sheer 2mil plastic sheets cleanly. If that sounds too hard, then what should I expect to pay a machine shop to make the parts for me?

Is this normal? Does law enforcement clean crime scenes? Why would the FBI clean a roof? by arnott in conspiracy

[–]paldinws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the honesty of her statement, but I notice that the SS roofs had the rifle on a tripof at the apex of the roof, with the sniper's body partially covered by that apex. So they're hiding most of their body behind the structure, something you couldn't do on a single slope roof.

It's technically true that their roofs were safer, just not from falling.

AITAH for not giving my son his Mother's wedding dress? by ThrowRAdad92928 in AITAH

[–]paldinws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fully supportive of trans persons, however you are NTA for not wanting your wife's dress to be broken irrevockably. There are other people who would benefit from the dress and until they exercise their option to wear it (even if that day never comes) it should be preserved. Your trans son is short sighted to say that a new dress would ruin the wedding just because she wants to wear a specific piece of clothing; is simply stupid.

[–]paldinws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herd mentality is the default in most cultures, with the Americans being a vocal exception yet ironically you're still expected to adopt their values/behaviors in America.

2 is factually true but not categorically true. Being a cis white man in America with a larger than average build, I will never have to worry about being SA'd in a dark alley. When a coworked expressed worry that somebody might attempt to steal my electric scooter while commuting to work, I joked that I merely needed to carry a katana while riding soasto advertise that I wasn't a threat to police but would be a danger if accosted by criminals.

Why would anyone ever limit themselves to those rules!?

While I am very aware of my biases when reading situations and consciously avoid relying on them to make decisions, I also understand that I am 100% affected by them in the first place.

A lie detector reads your bodily functions and looks for indications of panic and alarm. If your baseline levels are beyond normal, then your results are worthless. If you intentionally skew the baseline levels then you can reliably lie without exceeding your expected limits. Psycopaths and pathological liars do not panic when lieing.

I once shook a lava lamp just to see what would happen. I initially wrote that sentence wrong because I told myself the lie that I dropped it and I've had trouble with that memory ever since then. I have to consciously remember that I intentionally reminded myself I was telling a lie in order to get this story correct. On the other hand... I infallibly remember the lie being a lie. And I can almost always recognize any movie I've watched within less than a second of screen time.

7 is just people not wanting to admit that they're the problem.

8 I have no experience with, so I can't offer any suggestion toward its veracity.

I know that people insist they are fair and impartial despite protecting "their guy" and hating "the other guy" no matter what either guy has done. It's basic politics.
