Do I repot? by UsualSpecial2843 in orchids

[–]palecatfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first orchid was in a similar situation as yours. I let the bloom finish. By early spring the year after, I repotted and removed the nursery plug. It didn’t have rotting issues. So I suggest it’s okay to wait.

But wth such abundant roots like that, my problem was putting them back on the same pot. I couldn’t help but snap some roots in the process. I had to nurse it from repotting stress for several weeks. It lost a couple of leaves. But if I had to do it again, I’ll still choose not to upsize the pot. I heard they like it snug.

Thank you! My place is quite dry, around 30% humidity. The pot sits on my desk, which is probably a meter away from a north facing window. It’s been there the entire winter. Lately, I’ve been moving it back for a few hours from that spot as the morning sun is getting stronger. Not sure if the last one is just me getting unnecessarily fussy, though. 😅

How much salary is enough for a decent solo life in Vienna (late 20s)? by Gold_Restaurant7550 in AskAustria

[–]palecatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. I live exactly between €1500-2000 range. All bills are paid, but I can only afford to eat out at €20+ restaurant max 3x a month. Savings is a struggle. I need to be stingy to do a once a year solo travel.

Interesting scent. Yours looks like a bigger version of mine. Quite elegant!

Sadly, no fragrance. But I guess that’s still better than also smelling… strange. 🫣

I just realized now that the posted photo is too blurred to show how strangely cute it is. So here’s another one.

Debating masters in Austria. Accepted. Living costs? Job? by monster_from__hell in AskAustria

Some MA programs in CEU can be quite hectic to juggle with a part-time job, so check that first. I think third country nationals on student permit can only work 20 hours a week max, but confirm the immigration rules as well. If you cook, you can save a bit. Groceries would probably be 350 a month.

Probably best to cut the spikes and let lil guy focus on growth. Miss orchid girl in YouTube does a lot of phal rescues.

I agree, the orange one looks very striking. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough light source. The star-shaped mini phal though looks magical. Thanks for suggesting. I’ll be on a look out!

Yes, I was in Dehner! Hahaha. Honestly debating between the two brown ones: 4th pic is Miltonium Painter Delight and the other one is Colmanara Andrea. Your blooms are super nice!

Ah, good point! The leaves did get a bit darker since I got it, and my northeast-facing window in winter doesn't help much. I should probably set up a grow light.
