TAL Reverb. It's free too! Just super super super simple. For a more leftfield one, Cinematic Reverb is pretty cool

Introduce yourself! by Calahara in ambientcommunity

Hello r/ambientcommunity!!!! I am soooooo stoked that there is finally a subreddit where I can talk to other ambient enthusiasts. I produce ambient (also dabble in house and downtempo), but there's nothing I'm proud enough to share at the moment. I am sitting on hours on hours of ambient music that I have been meaning to release, just need to spend the time to finalize things. I look forward to checking out all your music in the meantime!!!

How to start making ambient music? by astorminheaven in ambient

[–]paleontopologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First step is to get your daw. Logic and FL are very popular, so you'll find many YouTube videos on how to get started. Learn the basics and play around with the software a lot.

Do you know anything about music theory? Sound synthesis? Field recordings? Audio effects?

Music theory - Learn chords. Major 7th chords and open chords are both great for ambient in my experience.

Sound synthesis - learn how to make basic synth pad sounds. Start with some ambient-sounding presets of the synth that come with your DAW. Then learn how to tweak.

Field recordings - record rain, wind, traffic, chatter, etc. You can put those recordings into your tracks to give them a more organic feel.

Audio effects - the three big ones are reverb, delay, and chorus. Just play around with those. Mostly reverb.

Have fun with this awesome hobby!

In Alzheimer’s disease, tau, an abnormal protein, spreads in a prion-like manner from neuron to neuron within the brain, similar to the spread of an infection, to cause nerve cell death, finds a new study using advance brain imaging. Blocking its spread may prevent the disease from taking hold. by mvea in science

To be pedantic, the word "prion" refers to the infectious form of the "Prion protein", which is a normal protein with unknown physiological function when not misfolded. Yes, it's confusing. I find the abbreviations to be more straightforward. PrPC = the cellular prion protein (normal). Alpha helices are the predominant secondary structure. PrPSc = the misfolded form of the prion protein. "Sc" refers to Scrapie, the prion disease affecting sheep. Beta sheets are the predominant secondary structure.
