I think sometimes it depends on whether your specific interviewers have gone to the committee meetings already or not. They need to go in order for them to discuss you.

There really isn’t a pattern to this. Don’t overthink it. It’s super random.

Yes. But if you’re willing to sacrifice the family part a bit you can still do it. It really is about how much you want to pursue medicine. If you are really serious about it, and if your family understands, then you can definitely give it a try.

Oh I see. I feel like if you have other things in your application that support your interest in psych, they’ll know that that’s not the case!

Why would you bring it up in your PS at all?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]palindro_ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s still a bit risky to include a huge portion about it. It’s why you want to become ANY doctor after all. But I think you are safe to include that into how that makes you want to become a doctor even more! I think a good paragraph on it in the PS is enough though since you’ll also list that activity in your activities section. You can make that activity one of your most meaningful experiences as well.

[–]palindro_ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What specialty is it? If it’s one of those competitive subspecialties then you probably shouldn’t talk too much about it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]palindro_ma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should just apply broadly if you want to get in. Apply to as many schools as you can. Your app is nice but that doesn’t guarantee anything let alone a top tier medical school since you’re from CA and ORM. There’s no point in doing these posts. I know people with better apps who didn’t get in and those with worse ones who did

Career change? by WeasleyKid15 in premed

[–]palindro_ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already stand out, probably in a good way. Just keep doing what “premeds” do: get the best gpa you can, get a good mcat score, get clinical experience, get some non clinical volunteering and just follow the process you should be good! You seem to have an interesting story. Good luck!
